You have very selective attention Iaint. People mock vegetarians all the time and generally they take it in good humour and don't whine about it on the Internet.

JasperJohns · 20/02/2012 23:56

I'm a catholic and I say Christ! Jesus! God! and variations of them all.

I can't see what's wrong with it Grin

Tortington · 20/02/2012 23:56

COMMY VEGGIE, fucking lettuce commie carrot cocks

it could catch on.

Serendipity30 · 20/02/2012 23:57

Spero you give yourself to much credit' you keep on testing I for one am going to bed.

CrunchyFrog some people of muslim faith have done terrible things does that mean that you will disrespect them also?? funnily enough I don't think so. And frankly you don't have the right to. And yes clearly leaving the country is the option for you, since you ARE living in a predominantly Catholic country. I dont see it changing anytime soon do you?

Spero, I am a member of a religion. What is it that you think I should apologise to you for?

ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:00

Iaint

Probably because this is a thread on religion and not vegetarianism or politics. If I went on the Torygraph website and suggested collectivising ownership of the means of production, I would expect to get pelters from all and sundry and would be prepared to have to defend my views.

But be my guest to mock away, my beliefs are not so insecure that I would give a toss either way.

BTW as we live in a democracy and I am a free thinking adult you are we live in a democracy and I am a free thinking adult, you are well within you rights to mock my beliefs. Unless Cameron has introduce a 'you mustn't say anything horrible to lefties' legislation whilst I was asleep.

tethersend no but its my thread so Wink

I don't think I or anyone else is asking for freedom from mockery. if we can't take it, we shouldn't dish it out. As Terry pratchett says, the only freedom worth a damn, is the freedom to take the consequences.

I wish I didn't get so riled up by this debate. I think what upsets me most is generally the lack of humour or gentleness displayed by religious people.

I wish I believed in Jesus. I am sure he had a twinkle in his eye. Why does it always have to be about offensive this and respect me that?

Why cant we all just get along?

ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:03

I am sure he had a twinkle in his eye

Yes and he was remarkably well adjusted for an only child.

Spero · 21/02/2012 00:04

Dione - bigotry and prejudice against gay people, single mothers, hatred and violence against those who don't believe in your faith.

Unless you are a Buddhist or Jain? Those are theonly two I can think of off hand who have not historically and in the present day behaved very horribly to their fellow human beings.

CrunchyFrog · 21/02/2012 00:04

iaint very happy to say I have zero respect for Islam also.
NI actually has a Protestant majority, just FYI.

ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:05

Does the above quip earn me a few more eternities in hell, having demons and imps shove red hot pokers up my bum?

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:05

ComposHat I was very prepared mumsnet is very predictable, its always the same people who comment on certain subjects. cough cough spero. So I would not have posted if Iwas not thick skinned.

"Why can't we all just get along?"

I would guess because of intolerance, prejudice and bigotry.

breatheslowly · 21/02/2012 00:06

Iaint. You don't seem to be able to follow a conversation. Compo said that she's a veggie. You said you are not allowed to mock her beliefs. I then pointed out that veggies beliefs are mocked all the time without causing all this kerfuffle and claiming some sort of special privilege. So entirely relevant.

Spero · 21/02/2012 00:06

Kansas - just in case I haven't been tediously clear enough already, I disrespect equally ALL religions. I am just very grateful to Christians that you tend to show more restraint on the killing apostates front.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:06

ComposHat don't know really depends on your beliefs doesn't!!

breatheslowly in case you have not noticed you are not the only person on the thread. I am also reading other posts. now if ComposHat is not bothered, why are you?

OP posts:
fatlazymummy · 21/02/2012 00:09

Yes you are being unreasonable OP.'Christ' and 'God' are just words and it's up to the individual to use them as they see fit, without consulting you 1st. And blasphemy doesn't officially exist in this country anymore.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:11

Grin Cassettetapeandpencil you are a wuss, anyway I made my point going to bed.

OP posts:
ComposHat · 21/02/2012 00:11

Iaint that's how it should be, your views being robustly questioned. Personally I think they religious belief is pure fantasy and that the established Church has an unhealthy affect on public life.

Before you play the 'bet you wouldn't say that about Muslims' card. I would say it about all three of the Abrahamic religions and that certain interpretations of Islam have been deeply damaging to democracy, human rights in general and women's rights in particular. They've also been used by nutters in this country to justify their own bigotry and hatred.

Serendipity30 · 21/02/2012 00:12

fatlazymummy read the post you sound very silly
