Why are we getting it so wrong here? The culture amongst many kids seems to be that if they are trying their best and working hard they have somehow lost to the teacher. What the actual fuck is this about?

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 18:50

I would think that's a generalisation. Confused

cinnamonnut · 20/02/2012 18:57

YANBU

miniwedge · 20/02/2012 18:59

Yabu.

Humongous generalisation.

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 20/02/2012 19:01

Depends where you live I suppose but if you're talking about my city then YANBU.

Yep pretty much. Private education would be my option but will require a lottery win.

usualsuspect · 20/02/2012 19:16

Yabu

GrahamTribe · 20/02/2012 19:18

On the whole YANBU.

Charlotteperkins · 20/02/2012 19:19

Totally true round here.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 19:19

Are you saying that the High Schools themselves aren't 'wank' but the children that attend then?????? Confused

diabolo · 20/02/2012 19:20

That's a big generalisation. Some inner-London academies are doing fantastically well, some aren't. I would imagine every City has it's share of fantastic, good, bad and awful.

Scheherezade · 20/02/2012 19:22

Yabu, the schools in Manchester are ridiculously good.

lunaticow · 20/02/2012 19:24

They are likely to have kids with parents who are not so interested in Education and therefore a lack of encouragement from home results in a lack of performance from the pupils. It doesn't mean the teaching is bad.

manicinsomniac · 20/02/2012 19:25

depends

for some schoools YABU, for other schools YANBU

on balance YABU because you are generalising and therefore putting down some excellent schools.

Sparklingbrook · 20/02/2012 19:28

Could you elaborate a bit more OP? Do you have dealings with an inner city high school?

seeker · 20/02/2012 19:30

Interesting debate- but the thread title is so very ick that I for one do 't want to take part. Why phrase it like that ffs?

usualsuspect · 20/02/2012 19:34

Some inner city schools are wank some are excellent

The inner city schools where I live are on the whole good, but then we have no grammars and its truly comprehensive so its all good imo

PopcornBiscuit · 20/02/2012 19:35

YANBU to think this is a problem. But YABU to think it's confined to the inner city.

wonkylegs · 20/02/2012 19:36

I live next to a high school it's rated outstanding, the best co-educational school in the city and has a list of achievements as long as your arm - we live 2 miles from the city centre (I'm not sure what you are counting as inner city)
But if that counts YABU

MissBetsyTrotwood · 20/02/2012 19:38

What's your story OP? Your generalisation seems personal, iykwim.

Clawdy · 20/02/2012 19:39

You've visited "most of the inner-city high schools" have you?Angry

nagynolonger · 20/02/2012 19:41

Do you mean wrank OP. I can't imagine why the other wouldn't occur in all schools.

Snowsister · 20/02/2012 20:08

Are you a child? this is the sort of language my students would use.

YABU, many state schools in inner cities do an amazing job and get excellent results from very ordinary students.

PopcornBiscuit · 20/02/2012 20:12

What's your experience in education, OP?

MrsKittyFane · 20/02/2012 20:25

Scheherezade Yabu, the schools in Manchester are ridiculously good.
Really? Hmm are you talking about the Grammar schools in Trafford / Cheshire borders or Inner City Manchester High schools?
