Why are we getting it so wrong here? The culture amongst many kids seems to be that if they are trying their best and working hard they have somehow lost to the teacher. What the actual fuck is this about?

I don't know then, as I don't know which schools it is. It might be the kids from the feeder primaries that get level 4 on average don't go to that secondary. When I've looked at Y7s coming in, we've looked at the individual pupils rather than the school they're coming from as a whole.

If a pupil came into secondary with level 4 SATs then they would be expected to make two levels of attainment in KS3 and then that would equate to a GCSE grade. So your average primary pupil, in theory, would be level 6 in Y9 and this would equate to B grades in Y11. From what your saying this isn't happening. Have you looked at the value added for the secondary? This tells you more if pupils are achieving what they're capable of based on past experience. It used to be on the bbc website, but I've not looked for ages and the current government aren't interested in value added so it may have been taken off.

Value added is 985.
