to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

The pressure needs to be kept up because they keep talking about Young people but thats not the full story. People of all ages are being forced into workfare placements for months and months on end under the Mandatory Work Activity and this fact is not being reported on mainstream channels yet.

carernotasaint · 21/02/2012 22:17

Thanks for the link bandit i will look at that shortly.

MrsDeeBee · 21/02/2012 22:18

Well said, carer.

It is not just young people at all.

I wish some of these poor people who have already been forced into this would speak out. We know how great Britain can be when we find our voice, I want people to shame these bloody arseholes and tell it like it really is.

MrsDeeBee · 21/02/2012 22:20

...."an extremist campaign run by anti-captialist extremists".

GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Mumsnetters !

MrsDeeBee · 21/02/2012 22:21

*anti-capital. Blush Sorry.

TapselteerieO · 21/02/2012 22:23

In the Guardian - "Meanwhile, Argos and Superdrug said they were suspending their involvement pending talks with ministers from the Department for Work and Pensions to ensure that the scheme, which has been personally championed by senior coalition figures, is voluntary and that jobseekers would no longer fear having their benefits removed if they pulled out of placements after the first week."

minimathsmouse · 21/02/2012 22:28

Grayling has said that the big companies where they have a national agreement is not pulling out. This implies that Boots have lied. I questioned boots and got a reply stating that they allowed mangers in local branches to decide at a local level.

stubbornstains · 21/02/2012 22:29

Still absolutely nothing about ASDA....it's as if they have a magical anti-shit shield surrounding them.

historyrepeats · 21/02/2012 22:29

OFGS entitlement, no your not.Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 21/02/2012 22:31

stubborn

YET

MrsDeeBee · 21/02/2012 22:34

I saw someone from Asda on the news earlier, and he was trotting out the same nonsense as Tesco.

Don't believe any of it, they will still be 'participating' in it, just doing it a different way.

X amount of people off benefits for a month, only to start claiming again when they find them 'unsatisfactory'.

NunOnTheRun · 21/02/2012 22:35

John Harris (The Guardian) analyses IDS's crayonings:

www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/2012/feb/21/free-labour-job-snob-iain-duncan-smith?INTCMP=ILCNETTXT3487

Opposing free labour doesn't make us 'job snobs', Iain Duncan Smith

I'm all for 'real jobs that worthwhile people do', be they in a supermarket or anywhere else. So let's see those jobs.....

....[the] term "straw man" barely does it justice. I'll conclude with a simple enough point: that this is not about "dream jobs", but the most basic of civilised conditions. Oh, and a quote from that philosopher, stretcher bearer, engineer and primary school teacher and all-round grafter Ludwig Wittgenstein, which IDS should perhaps consider: "Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent." Grin

TapselteerieO · 21/02/2012 22:39

Agree Carer pressure should absolutely be kept up and all these money making scams for huge profit making companies need to be exposed again and again, every time it happens the wrath of decent people fighting for a living wage should be brought down on these scumbags - they vilify the poor whilst the likes of Tesco/Asda/Boots/Arcadia Group etc are getting the biggest handouts/ benefits.

Sickening.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 21/02/2012 22:44

i actually have no clue what that last line means...

carernotasaint · 21/02/2012 22:46

Ive just watched the Channel 4 news clip. the bastard is still blatently lying.
So wanting people to be paid a wage for the work they do is extremism is it. Stupid Tory twat.
Love the fact that Jon Snow made him squirm though.
These schemes are not voluntary Grayling. They never have been and well you fucking know it.
I think some of these companies are lying too

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 21/02/2012 22:46

yep, tapsel, i think that's actually why so many people are so clear about it being so wrong. not so much the forced labour, but the clear insult that our taxes and national insurance etc are lining Tesco's pockets so directly.

NunOnTheRun · 21/02/2012 22:46

Aarghhh - bunch of weasels! (ditto Tesco's with their 'coach & horses' loopholey new 'offer'). Shock

For the viewing pleasure of capitalist extremists everywhere:
C4 news - interview with Chris Grayling (Btw, I heart Jon Snow. Go Jon!)

SerialKipper · 21/02/2012 22:49

Politician on Newsnight says the population are complaining about Work Experience, and therefore it's not relevant to talk about same problems with Mandatory Work Activity.

Nice try, lady, but no cigar.

molepom · 21/02/2012 22:50

Paxman has just shot down an MP as regard the scheme on BBC 2.

Ripeberry · 21/02/2012 22:51

We are going back to Dickensian times. Poor wages, people having to get food parcels from food banks and now working for nothing.
Why not just bring back the workhouses and be done with it? Angry

bananaistheanswer · 21/02/2012 22:51

Who is the tory muppet on newsnight? She's not doing very well explaining herself is she? Confused

MrsDeeBee · 21/02/2012 22:51

The C4 interview shows CG to be the outright liar we all know he is, and also, yet again, that he has no idea what's going on within his dept.

Shocking.

molepom · 21/02/2012 22:52

Harriet Balwin

TapselteerieO · 21/02/2012 22:58

Saggydaddy on twitter "I strongly suspect the Tory that came up with #Workfare may soon be unemployed " That would be sweet.

TapselteerieO · 21/02/2012 23:06

I am equally sickened about people not being paid for their work in the forced labour, I think that is extremely worrying and beyond wrong that it is happening at all.

Anyone who really wants people off benefits and in gainful employment should surely see how amoral and indefensible this is, and how it erodes money going back into the pot for the people who are made unemployed and need unemployment benefit and any other valuable benefit that National Insurance provides.Angry

People on benefits are being shafted by all these workfare employers and everyone is being shafted by the government paying the workfare companies A4e and their awful like (130 million????). Angry
