to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

Is this how much they were paid for the contract?

Not sure if this has anything to do with it either

worzelswife · 19/02/2012 13:30

It is such a relief to me to see this thread and hear people's views.

The disabled community has been watching in horror at everything going on, particularly to do with DLA but also the scrapping of the Severe disablement allowance and workfare and the benefit cap, and despite the brilliant work done by the people who wrote the Spartacus report, and many others, we've mainly had to face a news blackout (although the guardian in particular have been wonderful. The beeb has, to my horror, just about ignored everything going on) and society in general not particularly getting involved or wanting to listen to us. It's felt like that anyway.

So to see people getting angry, even if it is first and foremost about workfare, and wanting to fight the shits in government at the moment, really makes me breathe a sigh of relief.

How can this government be so stupid and so evil? To tackle society's problems, they need to first announce a projects which will stimulate the economy (building lots of social housing would be good) and provide employment. They need to crack down on tax evasion. They need to make sure people are paid a living wage and ideally leave people in a position where tax credits aren't needed so that big corporations aren't essentially being subsidised. They need to look after disabled and vulnerable people. They are going about trying to fix things in the most mind-bogglingly stupid way and I can't believe the opposition aren't screaming blue murder. To everyone involved - David Cameron, IDS, Lord Freud, I will never, ever forget your actions.

Thanks for the link to the Torygraph, molepom, and Grayling's silly statement about Sir Terry Leahy, former Tesco chief executive, stacking shelves and washing floors in Tesco.
A little research shows that it was a school holiday job. Oh, and he got paid for doing it.
The Tories and Workfare supporters are completely missing the point, aren't they?
Still a media blackout on this Angry
Well done, QueenOfFlippingEverything, for getting discussion of the day for this thread.

Nilgiri · 19/02/2012 16:58

Sooo, Leahy's paid holiday job is exactly the sort that will cease to exist under workfare?

I wonder if there are figures showing how many 16-18 year olds get paid jobs in Tesco these days.

TwoIfBySea · 19/02/2012 17:19

Of course Millibland and his cronies won't be saying anything against this, unless they see the opportunity for a cheap soundbite. Do you honestly think that when they get in Labour will do anything to undo this?

Tories are doing the dirty work for Labour who will claim they are unable to stop it or turn back the tide.

There are no politicians that speak for the people although I'm glad we have more options in Scotland and certainly I wish the SNP could work it that we could break away now before the place is sunk.

Everyone's got to vote Monster Raving Loony Party next time and give them all a fright.

MoreBeta · 19/02/2012 17:38

I'm voting UKIP. Very off topic but Nigel Farage is on Sky right now talking about the Greek crisis. He is not only quite brilliant on the economic and political issues but very strong on talking about how horrific the human cost to the Greek people will be of never ending austerity and how it wil llead to revolution.

gettingagrip · 19/02/2012 17:43

Linked to this on the Universal Credit Thread...

not sure if anyone has linked to this piece of hogwash yet....

Critics of Government work experience programme are 'jobs snobs', says minister

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 18:04

He is going to seriously regret that "jobs snobs" comment.
Because now there will be a new wave of anger and more people willing to come forward with their stories.

molepom · 19/02/2012 18:05

I'm undecided on who I want to vote for. Deffo not the big 3 not that I ever voted for them anyway..

molepom · 19/02/2012 18:10

By calling people Job Snobs he's just proven to everyone exactly what he is like, and it's not nice.

TalkinPeace2 · 19/02/2012 18:11

Farage is an ARSE
he is like the Daily Fail : his policies follow the mood not set it

if only we had AV in this country we could vote with our consciences
then again Cameron must be PRAYING for Scottish independence as under FPTP the Tories will be in government for ever afterwards

be careful what you wish for

Workfare was actively set up by Bliar Broon and Ballsup
and is being gold plated by the current bunch of upper class twits
heaven help us

woollyideas · 19/02/2012 18:12

So now we have Murdoch's media empire supporting people like Grayling
(this was just Tweeted...)

sorry it's THE SUN newspaper - steel yourselves

molepom · 19/02/2012 18:23

Why is it when ever I see a picture of that twatt Graylying, I have the urge to shove several sharp pencils right up his nose then follow them with a punch sending them home?

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 18:31

I see he had a go at the Guardian for using unpaid interns in their newsroom.
Well Grayling you jumped up twat those placements only last TWO WEEKS and i bet they are part of a journalism course.
Thats a bit different to spending EIGHT WEEKS or SIX MONTHS in some cases or INDEFINATE if you are disabled stacking shelves or sweeping floors.
You keep fucking dancing your little virtual minefield Grayling cos of some more of us go public with our stories your PR machine will implode.

Shugochara · 19/02/2012 18:33

What a vile git. I hate the Tories. Grayling is a wanker.

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 18:33

You keep dancing on your little virtual minefield Grayling cos if some of us go public with our stories your PR machine will implode.

carernotasaint · 19/02/2012 18:38

And another fucking thing Grayling. Why didnt you use Red magazines internships for women over 30 as an example.
i will fucking tell you why you didnt mention them shall i?
Cos their internships are fucking PAID thats why. The snobbery is coming from YOU Grayling. You and your cohorts.

scottishmummy · 19/02/2012 18:39

if the job needs done, pay wage for it
it's appallingly exploitative for profitable companies to procure free labour
creating jobs, paying wage recirculates money, fulfills demand and is. sustainable
free coerced labour is morally appalling

Glitterknickaz · 19/02/2012 18:40

C&P from my post in 'purple with rage' thread

Page 6 and page 7 from this official DWP document are very interesting

Page 6 details that actually attendance on workfare is 'required' - compulsory rather than voluntary as the government currently insist.

Page 7 details payments due to 'providers' - read large corporations making billions in profit.

You will note that for some groups the 'providers' can receive nearly FOURTEEN THOUSAND POUNDS for getting free labour from the government.

The average is around £1200

molepom · 19/02/2012 18:40

It's like he's at school again - "but they do it too-oo". I despise that excuse of a man.

toomuchsand · 19/02/2012 18:54

this thread is great and it really matters. Must read it through properly so not to make idiot of myself.
Just as an aside, a nephew applied to work at the Human Rights Org and was told yes, brilliant you can come, great degree etc etc, however, as it will look so great on your cv,(or words to that effect) you can work for free! no, he can't. he can't afford to live for nothing. He doesn't have rich parents either. and anyway, aren't you the HUMAN RIGHTS?
