to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

Lady Sybil
that AD is odd.
How can "work experience" be "permanent"

goodnightmoon · 18/02/2012 23:00

I think the program is a good idea but participants should be paid minimum wage or close to it.

carernotasaint · 18/02/2012 23:02

Close to it????????!!!!!!!!!!

LadySybilDeChocolate · 18/02/2012 23:02

That was, apparently, why the Twatsco advert was pulled TalkinPeace2. They said the job centre displayed it incorrectly. Hmm

Nilgiri · 18/02/2012 23:03

John Rent-tool?

He's a yes-boy for any government in power. He's also the only bit of the Guardian I physically avert my eyes from. Sometimes I turn a page and alight on him accidentally - it's like watching someone grease the porn stud's pole.

AitchTwoOhOneTwo · 18/02/2012 23:04

sorry, but anyone who says FOCUS is distinctly Hmm. you do what you want, let others do as they want, mmm-kay? that's the MN way.

blackoutthesun · 18/02/2012 23:08

jobhits.co.uk/jobs/k-%2522work%2Bexperience%2Bopportunity%2522.html

all these so called work experince are listed as Permanent

IDoNotLIKEFun · 18/02/2012 23:11

There is an inspirational film on ITV2 on right now all about pulling oneself up by one's bootstraps and overcoming poverty and discrimination with a bit of hard work.

I am going to see if I can get some tips Hmm

LadySybilDeChocolate · 18/02/2012 23:13

That's shocking black. There's just so many. They need to employ people and pay them a wage, not sign up to slave labour.

minimathsmouse · 18/02/2012 23:18

blackoutthesun
Work exp as a kitchen porter, this is far far worse than anyone could have imagined and no I'm not a work snob

Will tweet this and post to FB

molepom · 18/02/2012 23:23

Look what I found! On the DWP's site:

'Entitlement to Jobseekers Allowance may be affected when someone wishes to undertake unpaid work for a non charitable organisation. If a volunteer is doing what someone would normally be paid for, this may be classed as unpaid work, not volunteering, and could affect their benefit. There are a number of reasons for this; firstly the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has a duty to those people receiving benefit to ensure they are not being treated as cheap, or free labour by employers. Secondly, DWP has a duty to taxpayers to ensure that it is not paying benefits to those who should be receiving payment for work they are undertaking.'

IDoNotLIKEFun · 18/02/2012 23:25

Bloody hell! Shock

How can they get away with being so contradictory?

blackoutthesun · 18/02/2012 23:26

molepom Shock

IDoNotLIKEFun · 18/02/2012 23:26

That is well worth tweeting / FBing.

NunOnTheRun · 18/02/2012 23:26

IDoNotLikeFun - Some quotes from 'Scarface':
(Except: Al Pacino's role is taken by Dave Cameron)

Dave:
"I always tell the truth. Even when I lie."

"In this country, you gotta make the money first.
Then when you get the money, you get the power.
Then when you get the power, then you get the women."

The rest of us:
"Every day above ground is a good day"

Dave - to chums:
"The World Is Yours.
Although I can feel a song coming on...."

molepom · 18/02/2012 23:33

In terms of benefits and tax credits, you will be considered as being a volunteer if you:

do not receive any money for the work you do (this does not include expenses)
are not legally obliged to volunteer
do something for a not-for-profit organisation
do something for someone who is not a family member

Grin ^^

carernotasaint · 18/02/2012 23:34

This is nothing new. When i was signing on i wanted to train as a teacher. they told me that if i did a placement i would be making myself unavailable for work.
When i questioned this pointing out that they made people do work placements in charity shops she said to me "Thats different because thats a Government scheme.
Back in the late 1990s both DH and i were signing on and one day i was taken to one side and made to sign a form saying i would consider part time work. Fair enough you might think. But for several months after that when DH came back from signing on i kept asking him whether he had been made to sign the same form. Guess what he never had to.
They obv thought i could do part time work and would NEVER have to be a breadwinner cos im just the little woman.
This was in the 90s and the Sex Discrimination laws came in in 1975. The DWP have a habit of rewriting the laws to suit themselves.

GentleOtter · 18/02/2012 23:36

Dobbies garden centres are owned by tesco.

tesco tried to force the farmers to share the losses made via 'The Big Price Drop' over Christmas showing the stealth methods of free labour and the knock on effect that had on the producers.

Tiredmumno1 · 18/02/2012 23:41

Omg molepom HmmAngryShock

Can't believe you found that on the DWP's site, what the hell are they playing at, I suppose that's a mistake as well, or just ok if they say Angry

molepom · 18/02/2012 23:43

I was about to post it on boycott tesco FB page and someone else found the same thing.

minimathsmouse · 18/02/2012 23:43

If IDS has left Grayling babysitting he must be flaming livid.

molepom · 18/02/2012 23:45

IDS, DC, NC, spin doctors and lawyers will be working around the clock to find a way around this.

ohyouBadBadkitten · 18/02/2012 23:47

Very hard to get posts to stay on tescos fb for very long!!

minimathsmouse · 18/02/2012 23:48

There is a troll and an apologist on the Boycott Tesco FB page

Nothing very constructive going on over there though. I'm the creature with the big blue ears if anyone wonders Grin
