to think Tesco should fucking well PAY THEIR STAFF?

QueenOfFlippingEverything · 16/02/2012 16:32

I know, I know, there have been threads about it already.

But this is so rage-inducing, I want THE WHOLE OF EVERYONE to know about it.

Jobcentre advert placed by Tesco for night shift staff. Who will be paid [drumroll] JSA (£67 a week) plus travel expenses.

Why the fucking fuck should Tesco get their staff for free? Why? Their profits last year were something like £3.5 billion last year!

I know who I think is taking the piss here, and its not the unemployed people who will be forced to work night shifts at Tesco for their £67 a week Angry

KateSpade · 17/02/2012 16:02

err.. Why could a MNer not be a Director of one of the companies? Hmm

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 16:03

I would hope they had the moral courage to have said NO to joining the scheme
Women are usually better at seeing the big picture
and after the thread a while back about high earners, there must be a fair few FTSE250 wives on here

molepom · 17/02/2012 16:11

Tesco Price shares falling as we speak here

MrsDeeBee · 17/02/2012 16:12

Molepom

I too am enjoying some of the comments...have you seen the Tesco Value Slave Labour label ?

I can't do a link or I would show you, sorry. Blush

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 16:15

just KEEP POSTING on those FB pages
especially the chemists whose customers include a lot of young impressionable people

MrsDeeBee · 17/02/2012 16:16

I can't post as I don't 'do' FB.

But I am with you in spirit !

I would probably get deleted too, tbh. Grin

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 16:20

twitter?
email?
your MP?

it is the fact that they are keeping people OUT of work by making them work for free for companies that CAN afford to pay that is so damnably offensive!

MrsDeeBee · 17/02/2012 16:32

Oh I have done the email and MP, don't worry !

carernotasaint · 17/02/2012 16:34

I see one of the organisations participating in workfare is the British Heart Foundation. I care for my DH who has stable chronic heart failure and ATBI (Acquired Traumatic Brain Injury) oxygen was cut off from his brain for a short time during his heart attack.
Oh the fucking irony if they tried to make me do workfare at the local BHF shop. They would be taking advantage of a family that they are supposed to try and help. Believe me i would go straight to the Guardian if they even dared to try it.

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 16:37

are you on FB?
FB pages are run from headquarters ....
the poor man on the Tesco one is going to have a coronary soon.

Tiredmumno1 · 17/02/2012 16:43

It's nutty on that tesco page

MrsDeeBee · 17/02/2012 16:44

No more than they deserve, Tired.

Nilgiri · 17/02/2012 16:45

Not forgetting it could apply to fair few New Labourites, too...

ChickenLickn · 17/02/2012 17:09

GAh! Tesco keep sending me junkmail and insulting, disgusting 'offers' to make this country bankrupt.

How do I get off their mailing list?

GoingForGoalWeight · 17/02/2012 17:14

I'm shopping in the Co-Op and Sainsbury's from now on :)

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 17:15

leaflets?
easy.
package it all up into a big envelope and send it to their customer service headquarters with a single second class stamp on
they will then get hit with the excess charge
BUT
Tesco are just one of many companies
make them ALL stop

jenfraggle · 17/02/2012 17:20

Don't even bother with a second class stamp, send it back with none and they have to pay the postage as well as the excess charge

TwoIfBySea · 17/02/2012 17:32

I have to say that although I've felt in the past that benefits can occasionally let some people off with never working in their lives this is completely the wrong thing. I thought this scheme was going to be sending people to charities and community things.

For some reason it has really unsettled me, left me with a sinking feeling in my stomach.

These "work experience" gigs are no better than the YTS I was made to go on when I left school. Such a great experience that I have never set foot in or bought anything from the shop I worked in, any of their branches - even though it was overhauled many years ago. I was paid 75p an hour, had to work on the Sunday stock take for free (10 hours) as it was "training." I was first there in the morning and last to leave at night and only survived because I was selling Avon as well. Made more on that. It ruined the whole work thing for me and I can see people having similar times with this.

These companies paying their high end staff, the top dogs, massive payments while paying those who do the work minimum wage. And now they don't have to pay them anything.

I'm going to trawl through this thread. I already boycott Tesco after a bad customer relations fiasco many years ago but anyone else involved in this I'll also boycott and send emails to their head offices too. Sorry if I've missed some organised thing on here, if there is one I'll be joining it!

minimathsmouse · 17/02/2012 17:33

[email protected] apparently this is the email for their ceo if anyone wants to email him.

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 17:36

Barnardos while "fighting poverty" are using JSA claimants as free labour
how hypocritical can you get?

Have a look at the boycottworkfare website - there is a list of the companies using it ....

ChickenLickn · 17/02/2012 17:50

Oh good idea, because roiyal mail are scheming too.

We need to target the biggest problems, break the problem down into small bite-sized pieces and work through them methodically

Its my online clubcard account. Obviously won't be needing my clubcard anymore.

carernotasaint · 17/02/2012 17:59

Twoifbysea sometimes though the charities are using JSA claimants on workfare when they are the very people they are supposed to advise and help.
Thats why ive used the British Heart Foundation as an example (above) because it will happen. They could end up having a carer of someone with a heart condition working in one of their shops or even worse, someone with a serious heart condition who has wrongly been deemed fit to work. my DH could NOT do this. NO way. Its blatent hypocrisy.

TwoIfBySea · 17/02/2012 18:28

Yeah I saw the post where someone put up the new disability things. Because, of course, a heart condition should not stop a person working now should it. Heart attack? Lazy bugger get back up and stack those shelves.

Or.

Maybe this is how they'll solve the population crisis. Work 'em to death.

TalkinPeace2 · 17/02/2012 18:36

according to Twitter, Matalan are stopping.
