I'm not disputing that Whitney was an amazing talent but every time I hear her version I pine for the delicate melancholy of the Dolly original.

YABU

She sounds like a Helium filled Pixie

OliviaMumsnet · 13/02/2012 17:30

YANBU. I heart Dolly, And the story behind the song.
I do love a bit of "I'm your baby tonight" though.

gamerwidow · 13/02/2012 17:30

Yep me too I always hated the overwrought histrionics of whitney's version. Not to deny whitney's talent but I don't think this was her finest moment, she had much better songs.

RightUpMyRue · 13/02/2012 17:32

YANBU. Dolly rocks.

Indith · 13/02/2012 17:33

YANBU. I love Dolly.

sozzledchops · 13/02/2012 17:33

it's Dolly for me all the way, much softer and with more feeling.

Distended · 13/02/2012 17:33

Long live queen Dolly!!!

YADefinitelyNBU. So much more subtle. I hate that warbling style of singing though

sozzledchops · 13/02/2012 17:36

tis like when Mariah killed Without You, sets my teeth on edge.

2BoysTooLoud · 13/02/2012 17:37

Dolly is a very talented woman. She has written amazing songs and just is AMAZING all round.
Yes, I prefer her delicate version. However Whitney sure could sing and belt songs out.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/02/2012 17:38

Dolly love, there was a thread on here once about that Shock

NorthernWreck · 13/02/2012 17:39

YANBU . Viva Dolly. Even though she now looks like an inflatable dolly.

bruffin · 13/02/2012 17:39

I prefer the Dolly version as well.

NorthernWreck · 13/02/2012 17:39

StepAwayFromThe ecclescakes, that is quite enough of that! That thread gave me nightmares.

EnsignRo · 13/02/2012 17:40

YANBU. Dolly is a legend.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 13/02/2012 17:43

No, YANBU! Whitney's is impressive in terms of sheer octave-hurdling and other vocal pyrotechnics, but Dolly's is fragile and meaningful. Like being let down very very gently.

Dolly is basically God. I won't hear a word against her.

Doyouthinktheysaurus · 13/02/2012 17:43

YANBU

I adore Dolly Parton.

I much prefer her own version.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 13/02/2012 17:50

Abcinthia · 13/02/2012 17:50

I was never impressed with Whitney's voice.

tribpot · 13/02/2012 18:13

I prefer Dolly's version too - more poignant.

TidyDancer · 13/02/2012 18:13

I like them both. But I do think Whitney's version does the song more justice.

OnlyANinja · 13/02/2012 18:16

Of course YANBU to prefer one version of a song over another - is this really a question of reasonableness?
