AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

To tell all those of you who only post on AIBU that there is a whole world of very specific boards on Mumsnet for you to post on?

MNHQ have, over the years, very kindly created any number of different boards to reflect the many and varied interests that Mumsnetters have.

Anything from pets to health to relationships to gay children to education to things for sale to comments on site stuff to general chat, etc etc.

So why, oh why, do you persist in only posting in AIBU?

OP posts:

If people used the correct topics more of them would appear in active convos, so the board would not be dead all over

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 11:28

Because as others have said, there are far too many topics.

MN doesnt' need a separate section for every tiny thing known to mankind.

It's obvious that if they cut out quite a few of them, the boards will be busier all over.

usualsuspect · 12/02/2012 11:31

If more people answered in the correct topics ,instead of only answering in AIBU then the other topics would be busier

2rebecca · 12/02/2012 11:32

I only dislike posts on AIBU where the thread has no AIBU in it and people are just looking for traffic for their charity appeal/ petition etc. Those threads annoy me, but I just ignore them.

And that's what I disagree with Grin

I think the board would be totally diluted and quiet all over

WorraLiberty · 12/02/2012 11:34

My reply was to usualsuspect but you two crept in between us Blush

usualsuspect · 12/02/2012 11:34

Just look at all the unanswered messages

1fab · 12/02/2012 11:37

I disagree. People who just use AC won't see many of the topics and won't be aware of the posts if they don't use the unanswered threads option. I really don't see how less posts in AIBU with them being in the proper topics makes the board quiet all over.

usualsuspect · 12/02/2012 11:38

Exactly , I only use AC so if no one replies to a thread in the correct topic , I won't see it

youarekidding · 12/02/2012 11:43

I post in Chat far more now it's above AIBU. Usually by the time I get to AIBU theres a bunfight 6 pages of advice so I lurk.

However on my way down to chat I often read threads in other topics that catch my eye.

So although I think yabu to tell people where to post I actually think MNHQ was not BU to move AIBU and I never thought I would say that - ever!

OnlyANinja · 12/02/2012 12:07

Shouldn't this be in Site Stuff? Wink :o

OnlyANinja · 12/02/2012 12:08

Someone very nicely said the other day "You are not above using the boards in a tidy fashion"

(I'm going to guess that it was SarahStratton but I don't know why I think that)

There are too many topics, most of which get very little to no traffic. Short of bumping every five minutes to get it into Active you'll be waiting forever for a reply. AIBU gets a lot of traffic. some posters think that because it's in AIBU it gives them a license to be mean for the sake of it. Most people are decent with measured responses.

Give the other topics more traffic and there'd be less in AIBU.

We have topics called Elderly Parents, Ford, Mumsnot! Who knew?

OnlyANinja · 12/02/2012 12:21

If you use MN for entertainment purposes why wouldn't you just go onto Active Convos - then you get to see everything that is currently moving?
