AIBU?

Share your dilemmas and get honest opinions from other Mumsnetters.

To tell all those of you who only post on AIBU that there is a whole world of very specific boards on Mumsnet for you to post on?

BIWI · 11/02/2012 23:05

MNHQ have, over the years, very kindly created any number of different boards to reflect the many and varied interests that Mumsnetters have.

Anything from pets to health to relationships to gay children to education to things for sale to comments on site stuff to general chat, etc etc.

So why, oh why, do you persist in only posting in AIBU?

I think the op is referring to all those threads like 'AIBU to fancy a cup of tea now?' - they just arent relevant to reason. They just look daft.

ExitPursuedByaBear · 11/02/2012 23:27

issey What have I missed?

ExitPursuedByaBear · 11/02/2012 23:27

mmm tea - good idead.

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2012 23:27

jims I thought the OP was referring to which boards people choose to frequent?

If it's a moan about people twisting AIBU questions to fit in here then shes not being unreasonable as it does get a bit silly sometimes.

Mind you, she's done it herself too Grin

AgentZigzag · 11/02/2012 23:27

Was that the one for cats protection league issey? Maybe it was because it was asking people to vote for something? I don't think they delete stuff just because someone doesn't like your name Grin

NewShooz · 11/02/2012 23:31

I agree with worra I really don't see the problem, and why it bothers people so much...
It's not hurting anyone. If you're not interested in the post, don't open it?

issey6cats · 11/02/2012 23:31

exit got to be careful how i word it asked for help with helping a c h a r i t y relating to animals in my MN name and someone who probably hates animals in my MN name got it r e m o v e d looking at guidelines spamming seems to have been what was used, i posted one very simple link a very inocous one to FB but everyone else is allowed to rant about that page

BIWI · 11/02/2012 23:32

Well, actually, this thread is an AIBU! The fact that you can't see that indicates just how abused this board is.

I don't think IABU.

Although clearly many of you do ... Grin

OP posts:
LadyBeagleEyes · 11/02/2012 23:32

There's far too many topics, so a lot of people do go on AIBU or chat as they are the most popular.
I also don't think mn make things very clear, for example I've just found 'elderly parents', a topic relevant to me, but almost hidden.
Topics really need to be scaled down.

jimswifein1964 · 11/02/2012 23:33

Oh, maybe worra... maybe there should be a thread of a thread 'aibu to ask people to post without room for more than one interpretation?' Grin

ExitPursuedByaBear · 11/02/2012 23:34

How could anyone hate cats?

BIWI · 11/02/2012 23:34

But issey - why did you post in AIBU? Why didn't you post in the relevant pets section?

OP posts:
issey6cats · 11/02/2012 23:36

zigzag sort of different charity i didnt think i did anything wrong just trying to help somewhere i work as a volunteer at every week as i see the good work they do and all the people aswell as cats they help one cat alone this week cost nearly nine hundred pounds for an emergency ceasar and it was another charity that charged that amount

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2012 23:37

jims lets ask MN for a special section cos I don't think there are enough Grin

BIWI · 11/02/2012 23:37

Arggh - issey! Punctuation really helps to make sense of sentences!!!

How does that relate to your post being in AIBU/being deleted/being moved ...?

OP posts:
ExitPursuedByaBear · 11/02/2012 23:38

So, just out of interest, what do others do when the log into MN. I click on Threads I'm On to check up on recent acitivity, then on Active Convos. I rarely go to a specific topic unless I have a particular issue eg with the dog or the horse or secondary education.

I am not in one of the cliques (wolefs, nobdies, IPOAT etc) so really I am homeless

CervixWithASmile · 11/02/2012 23:39

The fact you actually care about this is fascinating. I recommend a hard hitting leaflet campaign.

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2012 23:40

issey as soon as I saw your post I thought it would be deleted

The reason being, so many people work and raise money for various charities and the boards would be spammed with pleas for help if MN allowed those sort of threads Sad

It's the same with Race for Life and things like that, lots of internet forums have had to ban people from asking for sponsorship otherwise their forums would be chokka block with that sort of thing I'm afraid.

AgentZigzag · 11/02/2012 23:40

'Arggh - issey! Punctuation really helps to make sense of sentences!!!'

Unclench OP, unclench Grin

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2012 23:41

Exit my MN bookmark takes me straight here because I clicked 'save' when I happened to be in this section.

BIWI · 11/02/2012 23:41

Now that's a good idea, Cervix. Smile

Exit - I usually go to 'Threads I'm On' and then on to 'Active Conversations'

But if I'm starting a thread, I go to 'All Topics' and find the most appropriate one to start a conversation.

OP posts:
CervixWithASmile · 11/02/2012 23:43

:)

Thumbwitch · 11/02/2012 23:44

issey, it's pretty much guaranteed that if you were asking for money, even if for a charity, and someone takes exception to it and reports then it will be deleted, as others have said, probably because of spamming.

Mind you, it would help if MNHQ actually emailed people every time they deleted a thread and explained why...

AgentZigzag · 11/02/2012 23:45

I go straight to AIBU and stay there Exit Shock see if any threads I've posted on are active, then search for any juicy offerings where the number of posts have shot up in under an hour Grin

If nothing's going down I get bored and do something else.

WorraLiberty · 11/02/2012 23:45

But if I'm starting a thread, I go to 'All Topics' and find the most appropriate one to start a conversation

Even if the only thing moving is tumbleweed?

Sorry, life's too short to be so sensibly correct on an internet forum Grin

Live a little...throw caution to the wind...live life on the edge and post in the wrong section if you dare! Wink
