Normal English style stodgers.

Taste like a disc of glue and so you shove loads of BadForYous on to the top to give it some ooomph.

Why the actual jif do we bother?

Could have an eclair instead.

I don't make good pancakes - Sainbury's do though. In the chiller cabinet, the sweet ones. Just one little nude pancake a day makes me happy. :)

usualsuspect · 11/02/2012 15:57

I'm with you , I don't like pancakes either

catgirl1976 · 11/02/2012 15:59

Two words.

Maple. Syrup.

Mind you I have maple syrup on my bacon.

theincredibequeenofwands · 11/02/2012 16:01

I love pancakes!

I make cauliflower/brocolli cheese, place it in the pancakes, roll them up, place them in a dish, sprinkle more cheese on top and bung in the oven until the cheese melts.

Sadly only one of friends actually appreciates this dish. The rest find it oddd.

PiousPrat · 11/02/2012 16:04

It isn't about the pancake itself. The pancake is just a canvas for the artistic food explosion that goes on top of it. This year I have got some toffeed balsamic and blueberry syrup that I am itching to try out, over raspberries and cream. Pancakes here tend to end up a good couple of inches high and the workbench is covered in potential toppings. The DC have a whale of a time trying out as many different combinations as they can, but for the very last pancake they always revert to good old lemon and sugar.

JaneMare · 11/02/2012 16:04

they are like the rubber mats DH uses on his turntable to protect his pfb vinyl Grin

YADNBU

and they are a right pig to make, cakes but without a deliciously childish bowl to scrape out

Bunbaker · 11/02/2012 16:12

Made well they are lovely. I think some of the descriptions on here are of badly made pieces of stodge which are bound to be vile. Premade pancakes simply aren't as good as home made, even Aunt Bessie's aren't very nice. DD loves pancakes so I make batches of them and keep any leftovers in the freezer (interleaved with baking parchment so I can take them out one at a time).

They shouldn't be thick or stodgy. If they are you have put too much batter in the pan or you have cooked them at too low a temperature.

hermioneweasley · 11/02/2012 16:14

YABU. My pancakes are tasty rounds of deliciousness.

SauvignonBlanche · 11/02/2012 16:17

YABU and possibly sacrilegious.

ranteetheranter · 11/02/2012 16:21

Mmm checked the fridge have eggs, have milk and have flour. Dinner is good to go

SecretNutellaFix · 11/02/2012 16:21

yabu- you just can't make them properly if they taste the way you say they do.

babybythesea · 11/02/2012 16:23

Very very U.
Pancakes are the food of the gods and most probably my favouritest food ever. Even if you count in chocolate. Now I want some (or as my dd says - my tummy is pointing at pancakes)...

dreamingofsun · 11/02/2012 16:23

great thing for kids to cook using jamie's recipe - 1 mug sr flour, 1 mug milk, 1 egg. great for lunch/ breakfast if you run out of food. great for camping. eclairs for breakfast!!!!!!! you need to rethink

Scholes34 · 11/02/2012 16:36

Nigella's American breakfast pancakes are superb, especially with fresh blueberries popped on top before you turn there. I also take batter with us camping for a marvellous breakfast.

MilkNoSugarAndAShotofWhisky · 11/02/2012 16:39

Pancakes with baked beans and cheese is awsome!!

Therefore YABU

ShowOfUmblestAnds · 11/02/2012 16:43

I prefer drop scones and always have them savoury. No badforyous here.

You're utterly warped not to understand the attraction. Eat a pancake you harridan.

Eclairs, btw, are rubbish.

Thankgodforcaffeine · 11/02/2012 16:46

Words fail me. It makes me wonder at the sort of human being you are OP.

:o

sausagesandmarmelade · 11/02/2012 16:49

YABU....very!

Pancakes are delicious. Take me right back to childhood when my Mum used to makes piles of them for me and my brother.

Particularly yummy with lemon and sugar, jam or golden syrup....or with apples in or stewed rhubarb on top!

Will be making some on Pancake Day with my Herman mixture...don't ask!

Thankgodforcaffeine · 11/02/2012 16:53

Oh bugger. I fancy pancakes and Nutella now.

Thanks OP for ruining my diet.

:o

Becaroooo · 11/02/2012 16:53

A pig to make??????

A cup of SR flour
A cup of milk
An egg and a pinch of salt whisked together

Thats a pig to make??? Hmm

Knob of butter in pan, 3 tbps of batter (3 pancakes x per pan)

Gorgeous!!!! (I use orange juice not lemon though!)

Becaroooo · 11/02/2012 16:55

...Jamie Oliver recipe btw! Lovely with fresh fruit..strawbarries, blueberries etc.

Dont have to have badforyous you know!!!!

worzelswife · 11/02/2012 17:00

Dreaming now you've reminded me of Jamie's pancake cake which I made last summer.
Layers of pancake, whipped cream and nutella (or melted chocolate). Dear god in heaven that was good.

5Foot5 · 11/02/2012 17:02

YABU

But actually I prefer mine with orange juice and a bit of sugar, rather than lemon. I have tried bacon and maple syrup too and it was very tasty
