Normal English style stodgers.

Taste like a disc of glue and so you shove loads of BadForYous on to the top to give it some ooomph.

Why the actual jif do we bother?

Could have an eclair instead.

YABU

I tend to do savory fillings - bacon and cheese or put the pancake on a plate and pour stew over it instead of having dumplings.

BTW SR flour? I use plain - am I missing something?

AlpinePony · 12/02/2012 06:04

What sort of a parallel universe have I found myself in where someone has advocated serving with baked beans? I'm going to have to have a lie down to steady my nerves.

Fat American ones with Bacon, butter and maple syrup please.

Byeckerslike · 12/02/2012 06:09

Im making pancakes when the rest of my house wakes up! Yum yum yum!

NorksAkimbo · 12/02/2012 10:29

English pancakes, I agree...not nice. They're more like crepes, really.

Give me some big, fluffy, American pancakes with chocolate chips, or blueberries with butter and syrup...absolutely to die for.

sashh the self raising flour makes ithem fluffy and more cakey...that's the difference. Plain flour gives you the crepey type ones.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 12/02/2012 10:57

To be honest if you think pancakes are stodgy you're making them too thick. They are the food of the Gods.

Ghoulwithadragontattoo · 12/02/2012 10:58

Also love Scotch and American pancakes but they are fluffy not stodgy.

OhBrotherWhereArtThou · 12/02/2012 11:26

You are all unreasonable!

Toasted, with butter, for breakfast. Mmmmmmmmm

mrspnut · 12/02/2012 11:30

very thin crepes filled with a chicken and mushroom filling and cheese on top, baked in the oven briefly is so yummy.

susiedaisy · 12/02/2012 11:34

English pancakes lemon juice and then sugar absolutely delicious Grin

2rebecca · 12/02/2012 11:36

My pancakes aren't stodgefests, what a cheek! I love pancake day. It sounds like you need to practice making them if yours are stodgy. Make them thinner.
It's a good excuse to eat loads of maple syrup. Making batter is easy.

2rebecca · 12/02/2012 11:38

Golden syrup, not maple syrup. Agree lemon and sugar is necessary too as I can only eat so many golden syrup ones before they get sickly so need a bit of lemon so I can fit more in

randommoment · 12/02/2012 11:41

Chaos, are you trying to make them on a hob that just doesn't go hot enough? The best thing about moving a few years ago was finally getting a gas hob that made the frying pan so hot that the butter sizzled into blue smoke the moment you put it in. Before that pancakes had been disastrous.

MustControlFistOfDeath · 12/02/2012 11:47

YADNBU. Massively overrated. Can't believe they have a DAY devoted to them.

Hobnobs are nice - why can't we have Hobnob day?

Selks · 12/02/2012 13:31

Well, we've just scoffed a hearty batch of cheese and mushroom pancakes followed by lemon and sugar ones. Scrumptious, and not stodgy in the least.

Off for a long walk this afternoon to utilise some of those calories! Grin
