That a child my child has been playing with at nursey has herpes? She was born with it contracted from.the mother apparently. She had no sores that I could see but had something in her mouth and my child picked it up only later did I find out that the child had herpes and had been playing with my dc. Should I b worried?

How do you know if you can't see anything?!

hiddenhome · 09/02/2012 20:56

Herpes is only transmited when there are sores present. A large percentage of the population are carrying the herpes virus, it's very common.

troisgarcons · 09/02/2012 20:57

Many varients of herpes.

Cold sores are herpes. Chicken pox is herpes. Shingles is herpes.

if you are worried perhaps a docs appt and blood test would be appropriate>?

WorraLiberty · 09/02/2012 20:57

Wow! Way to react over a possible cold sore lol

faeriemoo · 09/02/2012 20:58

No, you're right. The child should have been locked away in a room for her own good at the good of other innocent children around it!

Unclean! Unclean!

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 20:58

Sorry I don't understand what do you mean I couldn't see anything?

OP posts:
toomuchcheese · 09/02/2012 20:59

make sure you tut disapprovingly at the child and its mother whenever possible

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 21:00

Ok so I shouldn't be worried? Lol

OP posts:
Kayano · 09/02/2012 21:00

I mean any sores or anything?

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 21:02

I'm not judging the child and its mother for those who have made comments about locking her away/ txting at her. Was just abit concerned that my child could catch it through touch, even if there were no sores to touch

ShagOBite · 09/02/2012 21:02

I think you are either being completely OTT or have no idea what herpes is. Or both?

suburbophobe · 09/02/2012 21:03

Bit OTT replies on here but yes, do get it checked out. Just so you know yes or no.

Not much you can do about it but will help to know for the future.

I know it's tongue-in-cheek those comments but hope you wouldn't say it either if it was HIV.. Shock

Kayano · 09/02/2012 21:03

So how do you know the child even has it though? That's what I don't get

faeriemoo · 09/02/2012 21:04

Kayano the mother's a skank, innit?

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 21:04

Well I thought you could only catch herpes through touching the sores so if she doesn't have sores on her mouth hands or nose then I couldn't see any that my child could have possibly touched. I don't think you could catch a coldsore through touching someone unless they had touched there coldsore.

ShagOBite · 09/02/2012 21:06

How do you know anyway?

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 21:06

I was told that the child contracted it at birth and it lives inside you forever doesn't it.

OP posts:
ShagOBite · 09/02/2012 21:07

Told by...?

ditsydoll · 09/02/2012 21:09

What does it matter who told me? But anyway, it was another mother who knows the family.

OP posts:
Kayano · 09/02/2012 21:10

Who told you that? The mother? Or some rumour spreading arse?

faeriemoo · 09/02/2012 21:10

Because it's hearsay! You have NO reason to think that the kid has herpes, therefore no reason to think that your child shouldn't be playing with her.

Kayano · 09/02/2012 21:10

So an interfering nosey cowbag then?

roundtable · 09/02/2012 21:13

How the hell do you know that? Herpes, really? Is this playground gossip?

WhiteTrash · 09/02/2012 21:13

Sounds like BS.

ShagOBite · 09/02/2012 21:14

OK. Just in case you genuinely want advice...

  1. Coldsores / herpes are only contagious when they are visible.
  2. They are fairly contagious, but a large proportion of the population carries the virus anyway.
  3. Malicious gossip about small children is not kind.
  4. The 'friend' of the mother is nasty.
