That a child my child has been playing with at nursey has herpes? She was born with it contracted from.the mother apparently. She had no sores that I could see but had something in her mouth and my child picked it up only later did I find out that the child had herpes and had been playing with my dc. Should I b worried?

Fair enough but i think my friend would disagree with you,her baby is only 16 months and is on her second attack and in lots of discomfort.Im pretty sure she doesnt have it vaginally but does get cold sores herself. The baby has actual blisters in her mouth no cold sores,im not sure what has caused it tbh.
I still dont think the op deserved a flaming though, she was just a bit misinformed.

  1. The herpes viruses are very common. 2. Loads of us have them. 3. They lurk in the body and occasionally flare up. 4. They are only infectious when they have flared up into a sore. 5. So don't snog anyone with a cold sore. 6. Or shag them. 7. But you can get close and personal safely when the sore is gone. 8. I doubt your d.c. is likely to do much of that sort of thing with a friend in the playground.

I think the more likely scenario it that the mother who told you is a malicious cow and has some sort of problem with the childs mother.

Rumour.

No evidence.

There are many many spiteful women about who do things like this just because they are bitches. It is the type of rumour my DB ex wife would start - for no reason other than to be a bitch.

You can't pick it up from a glass! How on earth would she know it was from a glass anyway? It would have been from some well meaning relative giving her a kiss.

blondie80 · 10/02/2012 10:15

Agree Eirikur, cannot be picked up from a glass and yes that it was probably a relative!

That sounds really unpleasant for a young baby - but also rare.

Unless you're going to wrap DC in bubble wrap and never let anyone kiss them ever, or pick up anything that may have been chewed on by a child who may have an emerging cold sore....then they are prob goof to pick it up. Obviously you avoid the active sores....but they will prob still get it.

How on earth did that nugget of information come up in conversation at playgroup?
