My daughter reckons this is what all teenagers do. If you agree, please vote YANBU. If you disagree, please vote YABU.

She’s wrong. And sadly a victim of our misogynistic hyper sexualised society.

Wolbarker · 22/05/2023 22:34

All teenagers can do what ever they like to their pubic hair, it’s really not my business

I don't agree with it as in that's what they should do but yes I think the majority of them do prefer it all shaved off down there.

I didn't see this as a pervy or clickbait question on a parenting site. So the fact that it's taken that way probably gives me the answer as per the first response. thank you.

14 year olds shouldn’t even be worrying about it! A very worrying sign of the times.

Stompythedinosaur · 22/05/2023 23:06

It's really depressing that this is the norm!

barmycatmum · 22/05/2023 23:06

:( no. Absolutely not. This is a style created by the p*rn industry, it’s just what’s in fashion at the moment. And If the other girls are teasing her in the gym shower or something, grooming should be enough.

I remember being relentlessly teased and begging my mom if I could shave my legs. It’s all peer pressure, sadly.

but the damned boys should NOT have any say or influence. Her body is for herself only, and this is when she can learn that. 💐 :(

I’m sure you’ve suggested to your daughter that teenagers, like anyone else, like different things and do different things and thank goodness for that. There really isn’t anything that “all teenagers” do.

Divorcedalongtime · 23/05/2023 07:54

I think they do and much earlier from my experience

Beezknees · 23/05/2023 07:58

You mean female teenagers. I'm pretty sure my DS does not although I don't ask him! There's no pressure on boys to do it.

Unfortunately at that age, girls can get relentlessly bullied for having hair where there "shouldn't" be any according to the patriarchy. If she wants to get rid of it, I'd let her. But it shouldn't have to be that way.

Treating this seriously, it's obvious not a question of should, everyone should be free to make their own choices while be aware that hair removal carries risks that remaining natural doesn't, but this is a fairly normal impulse amoung young adolescents - their body is doing something they're not used to and they want to return it to the way it was before.

MakesMeFeelSad · 23/05/2023 08:00

I think it's up to them, I started shaving mine long before turning 14 because I didn't like it. Nothing to do with the port industry

MakesMeFeelSad · 23/05/2023 08:00

Porn

I agree but given ten year olds worry about having hairy legs it’s not surprising.

Idratherbepaddleboarding · 23/05/2023 08:02

Funnily enough I haven’t asked any of the 14 year olds I know what they do with their pubic hair! It’s up to them though and not something anyone else should be seeing at that age.

Merseymum992 · 23/05/2023 08:02

I don't think it's any of our business. Why would we try and tell them what to do with their genitals? And why do you care?!

lavenderlou · 23/05/2023 08:02

Certainly not all teenagers do it. I have a 13 year old and she doesn't remove any of her body hair. She does ballet so I asked if she wanted to shave under her arms when wearing a leotard and she said no. I suppose like many things as a teen it will depend on what your friendship circle does.

Beaniesmumsie · 23/05/2023 08:02

What? I’m 35 and still have all my pubic hair
