to think that 8 years is too young to be playing Angry Birds?

To those not familiar with Angry Birds its an iPad/smartphone game where one uses a catapult to launch birds at a series of structures with the intent of demolishing the structure with as few as birds as possible.

I was outraged when I saw a 8 year old playing the game on the parent's iPad. The parent was busy chatting away with her girlfriend while this was going on.

Just before Christmas there was a story in our local free rag about how some kids tortured some poor animal. I can't help but think that this is how it all starts. Its just a cartoon the apologist say. The children know its not real, goes the argument. I don't agree. Once you say to children that it is alright to hurt cartoon creatures then it is a small step for them to think that its ok to hurt real animals.

I so wanted to go over to remonstrate with the mum. Am I being unreasonable?

This is a joke?? Yes?

aldiwhore · 01/02/2012 14:51

YAB laughably unreasonable.

Horrible histories won't make my child decapitate kings, wash in poo or commit genocide.

Angry birds won't make him recreate it.

UNLESS he's already a 'wrongun' in which case it may give him an idea, but so can many other things.

I LOVED Tom and Gerry, my kids laugh at Itchy and Scratchy... they know the difference between reality and sick fiction, and both have a love of animals and a respect for them.

docket · 01/02/2012 14:52

Oh yes, you should have remonstrated with the mum. Appalling....

Thingumy · 01/02/2012 14:52

I'm creasing up here.

luciadilammermoor · 01/02/2012 14:53

Give me a T...

aldiwhore · 01/02/2012 14:53

Plus the content isn't so close to reality, doesn't contain swearing, isn't realistic, not overtly sexual... not like Modern Warfare. There's no comparison. Fail.

imoanruby · 01/02/2012 14:53

YABU imo

I would consider myself very strict when it comes to my eight year old and what i allow her to access online and the games on she plays on the computer but i don't mind her playing angry birds...there is also a similar type game in Moshi Monsters.

PissesGlitter · 01/02/2012 14:53

seriously?? that is just taking the piss

because he plays a game it means he is going to torture animals?? wtaf

MrsTerryPratchett · 01/02/2012 14:53

Angry Birds is not Call of Duty. Thread about a thread. Bad form.

wahwahwah · 01/02/2012 14:53

Lucia, I'll give you a R

yellowraincoat · 01/02/2012 14:53

Those not familiar with Angry Birds, such as people who currently live under a rock, may agree with you.

I for one will not have violence conducted against green pigs in my presence.

ruddynorah · 01/02/2012 14:54

Yabu. Dd loved it when she was 4.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 01/02/2012 14:54

My 2.5 yo dgs plays Angry Birds on my iPad. (Not very well, he's just mastered the fine art of launching them in the right direction...) He has dismembered no wildlife so far.

HeadfirstForHalos · 01/02/2012 14:54

YABU but thanks for the laugh Grin

DaveGrohlsgirl · 01/02/2012 14:54

If 8 is too young, then someone should take my 4.5 year old DS away from me Confused
Seriously??
Its a game,as long as they're not on it for hours at a time, where is the harm

pigsinmud · 01/02/2012 14:56

Tut tut Pushydad - a thread about a thread. Well we're vegetarian so no way my children are playing it Wink

sittinginthesun · 01/02/2012 14:56

Oh I must be terrible, as my boys play every version of Angry Birds going. Current favourites are taking it in turn to be Green Pigs and throw large cuddly birds at eat other. Smile

AmberLeaf · 01/02/2012 14:57

Lolz

Tee2072 · 01/02/2012 14:57

My two year old plays Angry Birds. I'll keep an eye on the bird feeders...

usualsuspect · 01/02/2012 14:57

Are yo taking the piss?

wahwahwah · 01/02/2012 14:58

I got DS and angry birds t-shirt from Primark. He almost exploded (like a green pig) when he saw it. His classmates were very very jealous.

ShatnersBassoon · 01/02/2012 14:59

Just cos your kid's rubbish at video games...

Hulababy · 01/02/2012 15:00
