to think that 8 years is too young to be playing Angry Birds?

To those not familiar with Angry Birds its an iPad/smartphone game where one uses a catapult to launch birds at a series of structures with the intent of demolishing the structure with as few as birds as possible.

I was outraged when I saw a 8 year old playing the game on the parent's iPad. The parent was busy chatting away with her girlfriend while this was going on.

Just before Christmas there was a story in our local free rag about how some kids tortured some poor animal. I can't help but think that this is how it all starts. Its just a cartoon the apologist say. The children know its not real, goes the argument. I don't agree. Once you say to children that it is alright to hurt cartoon creatures then it is a small step for them to think that its ok to hurt real animals.

I so wanted to go over to remonstrate with the mum. Am I being unreasonable?

How amusing.

Guess my just turned 3 years olds are likely to be animal-torturing psychos then! Oh well, never mind.

DilysPrice · 01/02/2012 18:32

They have Angry Birds T-shirts in Primark you say???

pranma · 01/02/2012 18:32

I have angry birds on my tablet and can't work out how to play it :( I am nearly 68!

YABU, angry birds keep my dd amused at hospital appointments etc and keep me sane. She has been playing it since it came out

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 01/02/2012 18:35

You have to be having a laugh, right?!

frankie76 · 01/02/2012 18:37

My 2 year ok'd plays it
Get a grip what a boring post!

TiggyD · 01/02/2012 18:37

Those bastard pigs stole those poor, poor, birds's's' eggs's! They deserve all they get! You wouldn't like it if they stole your babies?! Hmm?!! Would you??!!?!?!
Hitler started by stealing eggs's you know?!

BACK THE BIRDS!

KILL THE PIGS!

VivaLeBeaver · 01/02/2012 18:38

I'd say its quite educational myself.

Kellamity · 01/02/2012 18:39

Just came on to see if this thread was for real Hmm

TiggyD · 01/02/2012 18:43

And how the hell did those pigging pigs ever get planning permission for some of their buildings anyhow?

IamMummyhearmeROAR · 01/02/2012 18:46

My 4 year old is too busy making sure she splats the zombies on our lawn with massive tatties before they eat her brains to bother with Angry Birds.

SquishyCinnamonSwirls · 01/02/2012 18:49

DD and I prefer killing zombies with tennis balls on Sonic Tennis tbh Grin

However, Angry Birds is quite good for judging distance and trajectory and reasoning skills too!

crashdoll · 01/02/2012 19:29

What's this about an Angry Birds t-shirt??!! Does it come in adult sizes?

DilysPrice · 01/02/2012 19:31

Next have rather nice Angry Birds T-shirts for children, but I'm a cheapskate and prefer the sound of Primark ones Blush

happywheezer · 01/02/2012 19:35

God, so many conflicting emotions that I hadn't thought of until this post.
Me veggie and I let my 3 year old play angry birds, he laughs himself stupid.
A future psycho I have bred.

SquirtedPerfumeUpNoseInBoots · 01/02/2012 19:37

Very good OP!

Glittertwins · 01/02/2012 20:34

Outraged?? Seriously?? Our 3yr old twins play it on the iPad and they're pretty good at it too. I haven't seen them try and launch either of our cats or even any of their toys in simulation. I'm really scratching my head in amazement at this!

Sidge · 01/02/2012 20:37

Some of you need to read the whole thread! Grin

My 5 year old is ACE at Angry Birds. And yet she even pets next door's cat. A well balanced kid.

Grin There's a version of angry birds on Moshi Monsters. Imagine that: on a site aimed at children.
