to think that 8 years is too young to be playing Angry Birds?

To those not familiar with Angry Birds its an iPad/smartphone game where one uses a catapult to launch birds at a series of structures with the intent of demolishing the structure with as few as birds as possible.

I was outraged when I saw a 8 year old playing the game on the parent's iPad. The parent was busy chatting away with her girlfriend while this was going on.

Just before Christmas there was a story in our local free rag about how some kids tortured some poor animal. I can't help but think that this is how it all starts. Its just a cartoon the apologist say. The children know its not real, goes the argument. I don't agree. Once you say to children that it is alright to hurt cartoon creatures then it is a small step for them to think that its ok to hurt real animals.

I so wanted to go over to remonstrate with the mum. Am I being unreasonable?

We all draw lines. My peeve is not that you don't allow xyz in your house. Your house, your child, your rules.

My peeve is that you believe you are right and that other parents don't draw the same line because they are bad parents or else they simply don't understand the issues as well as you.

Gooolash, it's the pigs that get hurt.

I think it's a great game to learn physics.

I have a recent 7 year old... Blush. Wink

Oh, my 7 seven year old does self defence, not a martial art as such.

I think it's actually good to practice fighting in a controlled manner, so kids know how far they should go.

I'm leaving this thread now before I break the MN rules. Your earlier justification of bullying should have been where I bowed out. Now you're laughing at people for not getting the joke. Yuk.

I change my mind, YANBU!

My 4 year old keeps building pillow/book/anything towers and running into them and knocking them over!!! 'Look mummy, I playing angry birds'

Hmm :o

MrsP - Don't go. No one does 'patronising' as well as you.
