To think there is no chuffing way this model is anywhere near a uk size 20

this model
Was looking for dresses on asos.com and clicked into the 'curve' section only to realise they start at size 20. I was aghast at how lovely and relatively healthy sized the model looked wearing clothes thatlooked like they fit, but supposedly are size 20.
I am size 16 and 5ft9.5 and look nowhere near as slim (shoulder blade envy).
So AIBU to think that either the model ( while clearly not a size 8) is not a size 20, or the whole thing haa been photoshopped to ridiculouslness?
Or option C might I actually look as slim (relatively) as the lovely model?

I think it's either photo-shopped or it's because I've heard that they tailor the larger clothes to a smaller size.

It's quite difficult to tell her size but her shoulder blades and her legs bellow the knee look to me about a size 14. Her waist doesn't look that big either.

I'm guessing she's a 14/16 with tailored clothes.

PoultryInMotion · 25/01/2012 14:39

She looks like a 16 to me (I'm also a 16)

They'll have put clips on the dress at the back to make it appear as tjough it fits (and the front for the other picture)

cheekyseamonkey · 25/01/2012 14:39

It does start at size 18, but I agree that she's a 16, max. A pretty unrepresentative one at that.

Hajdeby · 25/01/2012 14:40

No, I agree, I don't believe that she is a UK size 20.

I've been a size 18-20 and I certainly didn't look like that. I'ma 12 now and to be honest she doesn't look all that much bigger than me now. I'd say she was a large 14, 16 at a push.

yellowraincoat · 25/01/2012 14:40

this looks like the same model.

You can see there she is clearly no more than a size 16.

Think plus side models tend to look slimmer as they're tall and have broad shoulders rather than being flabby.

blackeyedsusan · 25/01/2012 14:41

she looks an 18 to me. they have photographed her so you can't see the big floppy tummy!

lovelydogs · 25/01/2012 14:42

I heard something once, or saw something, that said there are many different sizes of say, size 12's. So if you put two completely different shaped size 12 models next to each other their size would look different, but isn't, iyswim. Also, some people are just bigger, not fatter so their size will be larger but wont look as fat. BMI and all that.

Hajdeby · 25/01/2012 14:43

Wow, Yellow, yes you can see in that second dress that she clearly isn't anything like a size 20.

lovelydogs · 25/01/2012 14:44

sorry I was meant to say there are many different shapes of say, size 12's

HipHopOpotomus · 25/01/2012 14:45

I'd say she's about a 16

docket · 25/01/2012 14:46

I'd say she's a 16 but looks a 14 as is tall and toned-looking. Def not a 20!

yellowraincoat · 25/01/2012 14:46

no way is she anything near a size 18. Unbelievable.

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 25/01/2012 14:46

Hmm yellow I can't imagine that outfit looking good on many people at size 14 let alone 20. Surely it helps to see what clothes might actually look like if you have a tummy, or big hips etc. Using a model that is in good proportion who suits everything she is wearing is setting people up for a fall.
I bet they have a lot of returns
She is only half an inch taller than me ... perhaps it is the crucial half an inch that would allow me to de-bingo wing, lose the mummy tummy and the hips that could bear a thousand children?

How bloody depressing that she's supposed to be plu;s-sized.

lovelydogs · 25/01/2012 14:47

Or was it that there are many different shapes, and shape effects your size rather than fat, so you can have a size 16-18 model who looks nothing like your mate down the road who is also a size 16-18 who eats doughnuts for breakfast.

yellowraincoat · 25/01/2012 14:48

I think it's really rare to see someone who is a 16 - 18 who looks toned. Of course it happens, but I don't think there are people who are that shape, do a lot of exercise and don't have the weight fall off.

I am a sixteen, I don't eat doughnuts for breakfast and still don't look like her. She is clearly a freak of nature or a clever marketing ploy

Do these companies think your iq reduces as your dress size increases?

midi dress with spaghetti straps not great www.asos.com/ASOS-Curve/ASOS-CURVE-Exclusive-Midi-Dress-In-Spot-Lace/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=2079082

FoofFighter · 25/01/2012 14:51

She's a 14 max.

No bloody way is she an 18 or 20, I look twice her size and am that size. and only 3in shorter too.

I thought PLus size model only meant size 12 or more anyhow?

TheLaineyWayIsEssex · 25/01/2012 14:51

yellow true.
Having looked closer at the site, on the main site they list the model's height and clothes size. On the 'curve' section just the height is listed

OP posts:
hippoCritt · 25/01/2012 14:52

I would say the info for model indicates size 20 with the information below the height
