Natural labour: bad
Major abdominal surgery: good

never had a c-section, but 2 fantastic births with 1 shot of petadine each time.

c-section scare me, how can you lie there and let someone cut you open

Hulababy · 24/01/2012 20:39

McHappyPants2012 - didn't really have much choice tbh!

OTTMummA · 24/01/2012 20:47

McHappy, It is pretty easy when you have been gang raped at 13, beaten so bad that your end up with a pelvic fracture (amoungst other injuries) needing emergency surgery, which means that you can never give birth the 'normal' way without you and your baby very highly dying.

I didn't really want to go all emotive, i do not like sharing deeply personal information like that, but really maybe this will make you think again before getting all high a mighty about VB, perhaps you can gather a smidgin of compassion and empathy for othes choices.

Tiredmumno1 · 24/01/2012 20:54

Good grief OTT so sorry to hear that Sad

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 20:55

hear hear otchhainye

Some posters on this thread are clearly up their own bucket fanjos arses Grin

In all seriousness, though - can we not just let each other live, fgs?

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 20:57

Sorry to hear that, OTT.

The vast majority of sections are performed for medical reasons. 'Too posh to push' is a bit of a myth and only really applies to a tiny minority of women. Which is why the snotty attitude of some women towards section makes me itch. Have a bit of fucking compassion. And dont count yourself out of the game yet. My best friend just had her fourth baby by section because of medical complications, after three quick, sneeze-and-theyre-out homebirths...

OrmIrian · 24/01/2012 20:58

Nice hippo, really nice Hmm

McHappyPants2012 · 24/01/2012 20:58

never said c-section was the work of the devil.

if somehow i magically got pregnant, and i needed a c-section for the sake of mine or baby heath then i would.

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 21:00

ummmm, joke, clearly...

As I said, in all SERIOUSNESS - can we not just let each other get on with it? All this sniping and superiority is really unpleasant. far more unpleasant than my fanny jokes

duchesse · 24/01/2012 21:01

McHappy- It was a simple choice: CS; or dead baby and probably dead me from infection too if I'd refused all surgery (the surgery would have been the same as a CS to extract a dead stuck baby without causing me too much damage.)

Backinthebox · 24/01/2012 21:03

Why do some people get so het up over how their baby got from inside of them to outside?

Some women have easier births, some have much more difficult births. C Sections can be easy and they can be hard. Same with vaginal births. Easy, hard, CS, VB - it's all meaningful to each of us.

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 21:05

I had both my sections for medical reasons. First was at 43 weeks gestation, almost, and I had held out all that time before finally agreeing to induction, which failed and ended up with my baby in distress.

Second time, I had obstetric cholestasis and associated liver fialure and my baby had to be delivered by section at 36 weeks.

I have never met a woman who had a section just because she felt like it. Which begs the question - why are women judged for it?

I might be a bit crude in my delivery, but the real disgrace on threads like tis is people who think they are superior because they were lucky and their births went smoothy.

MerryHippo · 24/01/2012 21:05

smoothly

Yup. Take that up with the OP, I guess.

Funnily enough, in RL, I never have this 'debate'. All my friends are understanding and supportive of each others circumstances and there is none of this sniping.

Only on MN Grin

ProfessorFiggyMoriarty · 24/01/2012 21:13

Pethidine. early stages of labour. Fucking fantastic

EMCS - lengthy labour then cat 1 not so sure I loved it as signing consent form whilst being run down a corridor WITHOUT dh high as a kite and in tears when being told they had 10 secs to get my spinal in or it was GA. Wouldn't call the whole experience bliss but did get a blissful package.

VBAC - very empowering and glorious. Both had labour and pain, but luckily my vbac was a walk in the park.

Have friends who have serious fanjo issues post birth but I

ProfessorFiggyMoriarty · 24/01/2012 21:13

was lucky!

Helltotheno · 24/01/2012 21:22

OTT I am :( on your behalf, that it an awful story....

Well you'll always have the rubber medal brigade in a debate about birthin'.

Ironic thing with me is I spent my life before kids bemoaning the size of my child-bearing hips but reasoning that at least they'd be handy in childbirth... turns out they couldn't even do that job and I'm back to bemoaning em again!!

dementedma · 24/01/2012 22:58

3 CS here. don't have fanjo damage but have a lovely Cs overhang!
Recovery was fine with all 3 and using babysling and driving within a few days.
Each to their own.

skybluepearl · 24/01/2012 23:03

I've given birth both ways - both were very good births but I much prefered the natural labour. The pain was manageable with gas and it was a really amazing experience. I was so proud of myself.

bibbitybobbityhat · 24/01/2012 23:06

It is Orm. A complete disgrace. But allowed to stand, I see.

Well said W0rmy.

Wormshuffler · 25/01/2012 07:57

3 weeks on from my cs, no bliss here. 3 nights on post natal ward from hell. Scar infected and sore and stinks. 2 different anti biotics seem to have done nothing other than give us both thrush.

LouiseB2girls · 25/01/2012 08:05

I've had 2 c sections in less than a year at 2 diff hospitals. First was emergency and second elective, elective is a totally diff experience but both were fine, recovery not as bad as I was expecting at all and after about a week was able to carefully pick up dd1 but they do advise against it.

Do get disappointed sometimes that I haven't experienced natural birth as was quite looking forward to it Grin but they don't give you a medal for it and I think us c sections are just as brave Wink
