That'll last.

exoticfruits · 20/01/2012 18:07

Children won't just accept him. They didn't with the Canadian couple. It is a pity Norfolk can't come back and tell us.

naturalbaby · 20/01/2012 18:08

isn't there a family in america or canada doing this with their 3rd child? called storm or wolf or something similar.

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:09

I believe several people broght up their children in gender neutrality in New Zealand and those children have turned out to be both phenomenally well-adjusted and extremely successful.

Exotic - that IS what they did.

And I'm still waiting for the explanation of his suffering.

Honeydragon · 20/01/2012 18:10

Got no objections to not sharing the gender of your child buuuuuuuuuuuut I think you have to be a certain type of person to prefer principles to people iyswim?

Then again, I've always let the dcs wear what they want and play with what they want, if it won't kill let them try it.

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:12

Why does it mean they prefer principles to people?

PearsBeaufort · 20/01/2012 18:14
  1. Don't trust DM. Seriously.
  2. Little boys can dress how they like.
  3. Society/conditioning/etc - read about it.
thebestisyettocome · 20/01/2012 18:16

There is no evidence of this boy suffering because of course the parents will say it's all fine and dandy but that's not to say he hasn't suffered or that he won't be affected by this experiement in the future.

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:16

But Tingle knows Becks, Pears.

What a sentence.

Rindercella · 20/01/2012 18:16

What Lulu said, way up there ^^

For the record, my 4 year old said all of the photos were of a boy.

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:17

Thebest

that makes NO SENSE WHATSOEVER

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:18

Those of you wringing your hands and talking about "suffering" and potential futures (dear lord), it's just the challenge to your deeply held prejudices about gender conformity that you find so uncomfortable.

It's your problem, not his, or theirs.

CrabbyBigbottom · 20/01/2012 18:19

It did occur to me that there may have been some gender ambiguity about the baby (ie hermaphroditism), and that's why the parents chose to not announce the gender of the baby. It does sound like this is an idealogical issue though. I still don't see why it's some damaging 'social experiment' done at the expense of the child though - surely we all conduct social experiments on our children, then, in how we choose to bring them up? Confused

And as for the predominantly girlie pics of Sasha; I bet that's the DM's delightfully non-inflammatory and unbiased reporting there. Hmm

TheParanoidAndroid · 20/01/2012 18:19

loving the inherent sexism ladies...its only the mother that is bonkers, nobody mentions the fathers role at all?

exoticfruits · 20/01/2012 18:20

Hully. I would like someone who knows him to come and tell us how he gets on with his peer group.
People on here will persist in thinking that small DCs can be friends with anyone and as long as they are the same age it is fine. They have preferences. The mother was alienating, people in a small Norfolk village gave her a wide berth. I can't think that DCs were flocking to their house for tea.
I remember the Canadian couple, the girls didn't want to play with-to quote 'the boy, girl'. They found him odd.
Even if he does turn out well adjusted how can the mother possibly know in advance-it was an experiment.
Going to the DM for 5 mins of fame was hardly in his best interests.. I would keep all DCs out of the newspapers and off TV-I wouldn't even write about them in blogs.

exoticfruits · 20/01/2012 18:21

The father wasn't in DM

exoticfruits · 20/01/2012 18:22

IMO the bottom line was they wanted a girl and got a boy!

thebestisyettocome · 20/01/2012 18:22

I'm not wringing my hands. How fucking patronising.

Honeydragon · 20/01/2012 18:24

Well if I asked the gender of a child and was told we're not telling people, I wouldn't immediately think "I'm NEVER speaking to you again", sure some people would find it weird but not every single person she meets, surely?

so that would mean the DM are exaggerating her friendlessness or she perhaps had more to say on the subject than simply not saying the childs gender. New mums are sensitive to criticism. I am a bit of a lentil weaver but I have never been unable to convince a non lentiler to come round to mine for a coffee and biscuit.

thebestisyettocome · 20/01/2012 18:24

Hilly. My post looks pretty clear to me (although I do struggle a bit on my iPad). If you don't understand it, that's not my problem.

Hullygully · 20/01/2012 18:24

exotic - see? Your last post says it all. You want nice clear gender differentiation becaus ethat is what you are comfortable with.

You have to make it about girl v boy

Thebest - whatevs.

alemci · 20/01/2012 18:24

poor little thing.

thebestisyettocome · 20/01/2012 18:24

Hully' not Hilly

CrabbyBigbottom · 20/01/2012 18:25

exotic the only thing I agree with you about on this topic is that why on earth would the parents go to DM??

Can we not ever let a child be a bit different lest the other children won't accept them?? Should we not concentrate more on educating our children to not be judgemental about things like appearance? If children have to learn early that they must conform with the narrow norm to 'fit in' and be accepted or have friends, why are we surprised when, as teenagers, they rush to do exactly what everyone else does??

TheParanoidAndroid · 20/01/2012 18:25

so you just copied the Daily Mails sexist take on it? Bravo. Hmm
