Ularooo! Neighbours memories

Does anyone remember when Lucy sneaked a bit of Ayers Rock home and then a curse befell Ramsay Street? Every time something new happened, she'd wail 'Ularoooo!'

Or wondering what lamingtons were and saying "you dag" to your friends?

My big crush was Paul, even though he only had a couple of facial expressions.

You can have a whole evening of watching retro neighbours by indulging in one of those highlights dvds from amazon for a few quid.

Mine featured Todd's death and Steph on her wedding day finding out her new husband had been having an affair with Flick. Also Daphne giving birth and dying. Many people dying come to think of it. And people with amnesia. Its very enjoyable escapism if you're slighty tipsy at the time.

Sometime in the 1990s someone had a long-lost son or brother called Ben who was a racing driver. He had a nasty accident but recovered. I was quite impressed with the actor who played him, as he walked awkwardly and came across as all tired and flustered for months, like someone who had really had a high-speed car accident.

Normally, a night in that one room they have in Erinsbrough Hospital and some dramatic scenes with IV lines are enough to cure any ailment, as long as you don't die from it. Karl Kennedy is also the only doctor in the whole town. Lovely doomed Nurse Dee was the only nurse until Toadie drove her off a cliff by accident.

I was terrified Dee (complete with amnesia) was going to emerge from the waves when Toadie went and sat on the beach, the day before his wedding to Steph.

Sevenfold · 20/01/2012 23:07

is this your Ben

TheSmallClanger · 20/01/2012 23:37

That'll be the one. Sounds like the lad that played him wasn't in anything else. Shame.

I remember Cody (version 2 with the red hair who got shot) going out with the evil Michael Martin. And I rember Cody (version 1) breaking the heart of poor old Todd. And I sobbed when Todd got killed on his mad dash to stop Phoebe having an abortion.

I loved the instant justice handed out in neighbours. A single shag = pregnancy, a crafty fag = a house fire and death was always only an out of control car/plane journey/collapsing building away Grin And just how many people got paralysed or went blind??

I loved the karl/Izzy storyline, she was soooo eviiiiill!! I have nursed a crush on karl kennedy for many years.

I don't get the casting in neighbours at the moment (am still watching it! Blush ) of Jade and Sonia as sisters. Are they supposed to be half sisters? There's no mention of it as far as I know. Have to sayjade is one of my least favourite characters ever. ("I don't do girl shit and if I shag your boyfriend and you don't like it that's because you're a dumb girl and I don't care.)

Just watching Neighbours now and MALCOLM KENNEDY seems to have returned!

FoofFighter · 23/01/2012 13:57

Watching also for the first time in years inspired by this lovely thread :)

Malcolm has barely aged at all!

FoofFighter · 23/01/2012 14:04

are Karl and Susan back together now? Why isn't she the headteacher anymore?

BupcakesandCuntWorms · 23/01/2012 14:05

Didn't Susan have a bad head injury one time and had terrible memory loss?

silverfrog · 23/01/2012 14:09

hasn't Susan got MS?

yes, she did have amnesia at one point, I think. can't remember how/why though!

FoofFighter · 23/01/2012 14:48

Yes she had some brain thing going on, that was around the last time I watched it. Brain tumour maybe? Will see if I can google it. Cause I have lots of not a lot of things I need to do this afternoon

javo · 23/01/2012 14:51

Susan slipped in her kitchen and banged her head on the tiled floor - she thought she was 18 again and divorced Karl (again), she had to give up being the head at the school but retrained alongside Libby to be a teacher again - gradually ( after about 2months??) her memory returned and she fell in love with and married Karl again!

BupcakesandCuntWorms · 23/01/2012 14:51

Retrograde amnesia according to Wikipedia.

Was sure there was a head injury involved. I am sure she feel off some stepladders actually.

BupcakesandCuntWorms · 23/01/2012 14:53

Ah, no. She slipped on some spilt milk.

BupcakesandCuntWorms · 23/01/2012 14:54

Fuckit, read before posting.

Thanks, Javo! Grin

FoofFighter · 23/01/2012 15:05

Ah thank you :)

I did try to watch Home and Away today too but it was all young 'uns and didn't appeal.

BupcakesandCuntWorms · 23/01/2012 15:57

I saw Home and Away too. It was terrible.

No Flat Head (Don Fisher), no Ailsa, no Pippa, no Lance and Martin... :(
