AIBU to be surpised at an almost 7 year old still being breastfed?

Met up for lunch with friends we rarely see last week and was not aware she was still b/f. Almost 7 year old came running back from the park, went to the mum and lifted her top up and she said "no, it's not an appropriate time for that".

I can understand that it's normal for the child but wouldn't they be teased by school friends if it's asked for/done in public?

It makes sod all difference to the child? Really? Oh. So all those health professionals must be totally misinformed.

Proudnscary · 21/01/2012 17:53

And round and round it goes...

runningwilde · 21/01/2012 17:54

They are being deleted because some women need to run off crying to HQ

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:02

Because I said that eeeeewww post is basically not helpful to anyone and that seine who posts that is an idiot Blush

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:05

It's ok for posters to say eeeee yuck disgusting about ext bfing and to ridicule choice, basically being complete judgy idiots but it's not ok for a poster to say so. Ive ext bfed my ds and it is nor disgusting, it was quite wonderful and no one else's business

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:06

And who asked for a medal! Ffs Angry

RabidEchidna · 21/01/2012 18:08

I am not ridiculing anyone's choice and I am all for breastfeeding babies, but a seven year old is just wrong, there is no nutritional reason to BF a seven year old

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:10

It isn't all about nutrition! The punt my 3 year old had was minimal and not about nutrition at that point tho the antibodies helped, also the comfort and psychological benefits. Or are u gonna report me again?

RabidEchidna · 21/01/2012 18:17

I did not report you or anyone else thank you very much so grow up

PosieParker · 21/01/2012 18:23

I think it's weird in this day and age and do not subscribe to the notion that it's natural for a child to do it, don't believe that our species fed children until they were five 10000 years ago. It's definitely about the mother and not the child.

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:27
Biscuit
RabidEchidna · 21/01/2012 18:29

Oh how grown up

PosieParker · 21/01/2012 18:30

Oh and I would never impose this view upon anyone doing it anywhere, friend or foe.

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 18:31

I'd always prefer immaturity to ignorance

RabidEchidna · 21/01/2012 18:34

I don't think it is ignorance to say I find it distasteful to BF a seven year old child, there is no reason for it and I do just think Ewwww, I have a right to my view as you do to yours but if you think I reported you (which I did not) then you carry on behaving like a baby (go get mummy to breast feed you as that is what babies need).

entropygirl · 21/01/2012 19:56

stillorsparkling It makes a hell of a difference to some children. FF babies have twice the rate of SIDS as EBF babies. There can't be a much more long term effect than that....

Animation · 21/01/2012 20:08

I don't see how breastfeeding a 7 year old benefits the child. Show me any developmental literature that backs this up.

spenditwisely · 21/01/2012 21:24

Mama you are being extremely objectionable. Calling someone an idiot is bang out of order in my book. Also childish.

And yes, when I read the title of this thread, I also thought eeeeewww.

NannyPlumIsMyMum · 21/01/2012 21:43

Stillorsparkling I agree with you .
Upon giving birth, was recovering from a mastectomy , very possibly dying ( hormones in preg cause cancer to progress quickly ) and told on this thread should have gone forth and bf with 1 breast rather than FF...

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 21:49

Spendit - after the amount of nasty comments in this thread I think I'd been very calm. Tbh I'm fed up with how it's seen as ok to say yuck and eww. Si you see people saying that about children have milk from a cow? What is more natural for a human than its mothers milk? Now I'm not saying everyone should bfeed their dc till 7/8/9 whatever. What I'm saying is it is down to that mother and child and no one else's business. How very sad and immature to judge and think eeww and hypocritical too. I don't give a flying fuck if I'm seen as objectionable as u think
I've remained very calm despite ignorant posts being made like that. I had left this thread as it was going round in circles and it would be good for it to end as its not helpful to anyone. Just fucking sick of judging posters who make ignorant posts when they have zero idea of what it is like to ext bfeed or some of them even bfeed at all. But of course foisting milk out of a shit covered bovine is so much better?!

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 21:49

Nanny - that was never said

MamaMaiasaura · 21/01/2012 21:50

Do not si

spenditwisely · 21/01/2012 22:33

Oh god that's awful Nannyplum. What a horrendous situation to find yourself in. It's true, the stronger you are the more vigorously the cancer spreads, and when you're pregnant I can imagine you are at your strongest. What a total nightmare.

Mumsnet is a great place for advice, but it's when the advice is loaded with personal opinions that you have to be careful.

runningwilde · 21/01/2012 23:46

Nannyplum - why on earth are you lying? What I said was that it is possible to bf with one breast - I did not say that you in your situation should bf with one breast and you have never before made it very clear about your circumstances

Really - you should not be so explicitly lying like this it does you no favours to be a liar.

runningwilde · 21/01/2012 23:49

And nannyplum I really think you should take back your down and out lies
