To think that people who moan on facebook about being delayed after someone has committed suicide under a train are insensitive twats?

One of my facebook friends has today written a moany status 'thanking' the 'idiot' who jumped under a train (am assuming he was delayed getting home because of this).

Some poor bastard has got to the a point so low in their life that they feel that the best thing they can do is end it all, and all some people can do is moan that they have been mildly inconvenienced getting home.

This isnt the first status I have seen like this either. Now granted, I am not a commuter so have not been in the position where I have been delayed on a train due to a track suicide, although I do know of a girl who ended her life under a train.

delboy Do you not understand that these people are mentally ill? Many of them do not have the capacity for rational decision.

Train drivers don't even get criminal injury compensation anymore.

The Tories made that one of their cuts.

They are as unlikely to get over it as the family of the deceased are. And, of course, the driver's family may suffer too from the driver's trauma.

Pigsmummy · 28/04/2013 21:33

If there is a suicide on the line here then the delay is always at least four hours, with a knock on effect that can impact trains for double that. Fact. Not supporting anyones comments.

I have just seen that this thread has been restarted due to a very recent bereavement, it was originally started in January. Can I pass on my best wishes, leave the thread and suggest that others do too?

This thread has been eye opening. An acquaintance committed suicide (i don't know how, no reason to think it was this way) a few years back, and at the time I did think it was selfish and was angry. Not going to go into details as I don't know who might be reading. However then someone mentioned dementia. My grandma had dementia and its only luck that she didn't step infront of a bus on a number of occassiins as her disease made her unable to process facts and make judgements correctly. And if she had, shed have had no blame. Because she was ill.

Can I ask why you chose to restart this one?

I am sorry for your loss. Though have to say, I dont quite understand your post.

I think this is why moaning about delays is so petty.

One person's plans have been delayed, causing a minor inconvenience.

Another person's entire life has ended and they have ceased to exist.

Given the gravity of the latter it is in rather poor taste to gripe about the former.

Sorry about your FIL. I also lost someone close to me this way.

Deetelves · 29/01/2025 22:25

Once sat on a train for 2 hours because someone had been hit. It was cold, late, packed everyone was tired. Not a single person moaned.
The body was alongside our carriage. A few people looked out and really regretted it. The rest of us waited and had a bit of respect.

Well suicide is a selfish act by definition. No one can help being annoyed at being inconvenienced whatever the cause.

I agree and I speak as one who had a family member who did kill themselves in this way.

Deetelves · 29/01/2025 22:28

‘No one can help being annoyed at being inconvenienced whatever the cause.’

I can manage to NOT be annoyed, inconveniencedat the loss of a life.

Wordsmithery · 29/01/2025 22:58

Some of these answers are so insensitive and show how far we still have to go to understand mental health and depression.
Kindness is free.
