Apparently I am the only mother in the entire United Kingdom who has said no.

Hmm

She has said that she won't drink, she just wants to go because 'everybody in year 11 is going, mum, and I will feel left out'.

She evidently thinks I was born yesterday.

Did she tell you straight faced she wouldn't drink? Grin

Ragwort · 12/01/2012 12:58

You could say you'll go with her Grin.

Ah go OOOOONNNN. I would be afraid she'd return barefoot, hungover and up duff personally.

It would fill me with fear and worry, so, YANBU!

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 12/01/2012 13:00

See their is no way I would let my dd do this (tbf she is 3, but thinking aheadGrin).

Yet my Mum let me go on a coach to Amsterdam for three nights to see a band when I was 16 and a 1/2 and I had an amazing time.

So I dunno.

WhereTheWildThingsWere · 12/01/2012 13:01

Oh god, there wtf is wrong with me today?

mumblechum1 · 12/01/2012 13:01

Hmm, I would be ok with it, in fact am actively encouraging ds (yr12) to go to assuage my guilt about leaving him otherwise home alone while dh and I go to Tuscany(he refuses to come with us).

She'll be fine. It's a rite of passage.

To vile where? I can't read the thread title due to length on my phone

HuwEdwards · 12/01/2012 13:01

Is Newquay vile?

But I digress. How long does she want to go for? Just a day trip? If so, I'd be inclined to say yes. I'd want to know a lot more, if it's for longer.

OrmIrian · 12/01/2012 13:01

Blimey getorf, you really don't like Cornwall do you? Grin

But no, YANBU. I can't think of anything worse TBH.

Kayano · 12/01/2012 13:02

I went out in Newcastle after my GCSEs Blush

OnlyANinja · 12/01/2012 13:02

Ah go OOOOOON.

diddl · 12/01/2012 13:02

Sounds like the sort of thing I would say no to.

At 16 I was still only drinking locally so sleeping it off safely at homeBlushGrin

ChaosTrulyReigns · 12/01/2012 13:02

No waxing way.

We were down that way a few years ago, WhitWeek and my drugging word, it's not where I would like my gels to lose their innocence.

There are special hotels catering for the 16-18s. One's called Escape and is basically a party room with dorms.

TheReturnoftheSmartArse · 12/01/2012 13:02

Last year, I was the only mum who said NO. Turns out, so were all her friends' mums. Ha! Grin DD had a post GCSE BBQ instead.

OnlyANinja · 12/01/2012 13:02

What were you getting up to at her age? Wink

I would - will - let dds (nearly 14, 11 and 4 atm) go somewhere reasonably civilised with a group of friends if they want to. Newquay post GCSEs is not imo 'reasonably civilised' so I would be saying no too.

Hullygully · 12/01/2012 13:08

wot mary said

dreads this question

Pancakeflipper · 12/01/2012 13:08

You can show her this thread to prove you are not the only mother in the UK to say not a chance.

Tell her to go youth hostelling in the Yorkshire Dales for a weekend with some lovely long hikes.

My DS is 13 but in another couple of years I'll be the only mum saying no to that too.

Just like I'm the only mum who thinks 11pm is too late to go to bed on a school night.

And I'm the only mum who expects him to do any chores around the house at all.

And he's the only kid at school without an ipad/iphone...

Yeah. Right.
