Bags of poison sewn into our infant feeding parts.

How fucked up is that?

hellymelly · 13/01/2012 21:36

those scar project pics are stunning, really beautiful. I have two dds and totally agree with you op-I worry about how they will feel about their bodies as they get older,it is such a beautiful state of grace, that they are so happy in their skins now.My four year old dd also still has her newborn hairy back, thankfully no teasing yet-it had never occurred to me that she would get teased at school so I feel sad ready Emma's posts.
There was a quote by Chrissie Hynde years ago in much the same vein, she was baffed that someone would pay to be cut open, have bags of silicone stuck under their skin and sewn up again. It was noticable as most women in the media seem to have the opposite view.

PotterAndHisWand · 13/01/2012 21:40

Really? Chrissie Hynde cannot imagine why I would want to have breasts? Well that must make me really stupid, disgusting and not a 'real' woman at all Hmm

ClothesOfSand · 13/01/2012 21:42

You did have breasts though.

PotterAndHisWand · 13/01/2012 21:51

Yes I did technically I suppose but there really was minimal breast tissue even though I was not particularly thin, I found this upsetting, I wanted breasts like the other women in my family. I'm very happy with my breasts, they look real, I have had no problems breastfeeding whatsoever. It's not something I ever tell people for fear of being judged, which is sad really.

VivaLaSativa · 13/01/2012 21:54

I frequent a few forums where implant safety is well discussed. There are many women that have had implants (not just PIP'S but Allergan and others) and have had pretty horrific reactions, I'm not talking about capsular contracture.

Autoimmune diseases, poisoning from metals like platinum and tin ffs, that are apparently safe.

A lot of women have successfully sued and still suffer auto immune diseases, even after having their implants removed.
Apparently, their implants were safe. Try telling them that now.

I only found this out because I'm considering this myself.
Not because I want to burst out at the seams but because I'm really petite. Pre bfing I was a 32aa, When finished I'll probably be the same as I was before. its horrid being a size 6 with the body of a prepubescent girl.
I was measured in M&S as an adult, and told I should try a training bra.
Sheer humiliation.

Now, Obviously due to the PIP scandal, I don't know what to do when I finish bfing. I would love to feel more feminine, I wouldn't want to risk my health though. I really want to say FU societal pressure, I also want to look like a grown up at some point too.

PotterAndHisWand · 13/01/2012 21:56

I am having my PIP implants replaced with allergan. I have had the PIP's in for 8 years and have always been very happy with them but they do not last forever so I thought now is as good a time as any.

spenditwisely · 13/01/2012 21:57

Viva - enjoy being petite and small. You can run, jump and dance without doing damage to yourself or anyone else. You can see your feet and won't bump into things. If you really want to be bigger, just eat more.

bluemousemummy · 13/01/2012 21:59

Am baffled as to why anyone else would have a problem with it tbh. I don't think it's particularly helpful to be that negative about other people's personal choices. Besides which, it shows a total lack of imagination. Women have implants for all sorts of reasons and for many, myself included, it has been a really positive experience.

tralalala · 13/01/2012 22:03

I think it is incredibly sad that people undergo surgery to fit into some weird notion of what looks good.

When I lived in Cuba it was all about the butt, and also some equally weird perfection of having hairy thighs.

It's a very clever industry though, create an ideal, create a market.

I used to worry as a teenager about being flat chested, now I really dont give a monkeys and feel better about my body then ever (though looking back it was far better previously)

ClothesOfSand · 13/01/2012 22:04

Bluemouse, are you baffled because you haven't read the thread of because you think people's reasons for having an issue with it are incomprehensible?

hmc · 13/01/2012 22:04

"If you really want to be bigger just eat more" - oh come on, we don't all want to be tubs of lard just to put on breast tissue!

spenditwisely · 13/01/2012 22:05

Better than being a tub of mattress filler. She's a size 6 - she can afford to put on a bit of weight.

mishtake · 13/01/2012 22:07

I would love to feel more feminine

Here we go again. For the upteenth time on this thread - why is the possession of breasts related in any way to feeling feminine?
I have no tits at all - just 2 massive scars and a lot of radiotherapy burn.
Do I feel less female? Not of course I bloody don't.
They also removed my ovaries. Does that make me feel less feminine too?
No.
What a peculiar world some people live in.

I honestly wonder how women that are so ridiculously hung up about themselves and their looks would cope if anything genuinely life affecting occured to their bodies.

And of course Chrissie Hynde is right.

mishtake · 13/01/2012 22:12

it shows a total lack of imagination

The single most ridiculous comment so far on this thread.

blackoutthesun · 13/01/2012 22:15

well i'm a cup A and would never go under the knife

i did go up to a B cup when pregnant and hated them, even kept banging them as i wasn't use to them Grin

one thing did annoy me going of topic was when i was pregnant everyone was giving me tip on how to remove hair from 'down there'. my reply was that if they didn't know that a woman has pubic hair then they are not delivering my baby

hmc · 13/01/2012 22:17

You feel like that mishtake and all power to you - that's great, but you know, people are entitled to feel differently to you and that doesn't make them wrong. I appreciate that this discussion has particular resonance for you but for heavens sake please stop being so polemical

entropyglitter · 13/01/2012 22:25

mish oh Im not sure about that....some pretty peculiar stuff has been said....

Im starting to get a little annoyed that people dont get that the 'personal choices' of a lot of people can add up to make a society in which NOT making that 'personal choice' is frowned on.

Other peoples personal choices ARE my business, when they effect the way I get perceived simply for not following suit.

If you were a flat chested 14/15 yo 100 years ago, there would be plenty of flatter chested adult women to reassure you that you were normal. At the moment that number is dwindling, and girls are exposed to the idea that there is something wrong with being anything below a B cup, partially from the media but also from every person who had a boob job in order to feel more feminine etc.
50 years from now there will be no adults below a B cup and 14/15 yo will be lined up for routine surgery for small boob syndrome. Of course by that point noone will care about boob size...it will all by about how far apart and big your eyes are and all the cool girls will be queueing up for skull remodelling surgery. But it will be their personal choice....

mishtake · 13/01/2012 22:47

Argue the point hmc not the person.

Entropy - Other peoples personal choices ARE my business, when they effect the way I get perceived simply for not following suit
Absolutely totally brilliantly spot on.

Hullygully · 13/01/2012 22:51

No one is allowed to get cross.

I permit only PARD on my threads.

Kindly bear that in mind.

Ommmmmmm if necessary for calming.

Kindly remember that it is not individual choices and women that are being questioned, but the culture that leads them to make those choices.

Grin You can't put the stopper back in the bottle, Hully ... !
reelingintheyears · 13/01/2012 22:59

Can anyone PARP on here Hully? Wink

entropyglitter · 13/01/2012 23:18

hully is it possible that you can simultaneously tell people to F off and om at the same time? you crazy multitasker!

But people making their personal choices are a significant part of the society that is making others feel they have to make those choices too...if noone was giving in to their inner demons and getting boob jobs to boost their confidence then there would be no market and no teenagers thinking they had to do the same.....

So by criticising society you are in fact criticising other peoples personal choices en-mass.

I am just trying to be honest about that....

entropyglitter · 13/01/2012 23:20

also what the hell is PARD and did you notice that multitasker has a tit in the middle?

reelingintheyears · 13/01/2012 23:29

PARP is much more egalitarian than PARD though.

After all...everyone PARPS at some point but not everyone is open to discussion?

Wink
perceptionreality · 13/01/2012 23:33

For those of you saying why would someone sew poison into their bodies, if you wear make up then you are putting it on your face. Why do you do that?

I don't really agree with how the OP has presented breast aug operations. If you have a good, ethically minded plastic surgeon then implants are relatively safe. My surgeon never used PIP - he always thought they were poor quality.

It's a personal thing, and you are entitled to think it's fucked up, but I don't hear so much dissent about anyone having nose jobs or breast uplifts or reductions - implants seems to rile people in a way other surgery does not. I don't know why that is.

Anyway, for my own part the reason I had implants was because my boobs were so empty after having children that I wanted to cry every time I saw them. I was only 25 and my body was ruined. Why should I not do something about it if I could? I appreciate that not everyone feels the way I do but I don't regret it one iota - it was a very good decision for me.

Btw you should still be able to breastfeed after implants because the milk ducts are not cut, but if you have a reduction or uplift you usually can't.
