Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, teaandcake, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

Well it's about -2 or -3 overnight here and rising to 1 degree centigrade in the day. So yes chilly, especially with the wind but it's a dry cold here and the car doesn't take long to scrape off. I'm enjoying wearing my snuggly hat that I haven't worn much this Winter until now, the kids seem fine with the weather. It maybe colder elsewhere in the UK though

gomummygo · 03/02/2012 18:56

Blush Oops, maybe I've got the wrong place then. Thought I saw that you were getting our seasonal temps (low -20's, -30's). Somebody was in the news about it being quite an urgent situation. Must pay closer attention!

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 19:05

It's been about the same here tea, got the heating on constantly, if you did want to cheat when it comes to the car (that's if it gets to icy and annoying to scrape), there is something called pre-icer, don't know if you have heard of it, you spray it on the windows the night before, so no need to scrape in morning, I have only been able to find it in tesco at mo, it's so helpful no more getting cold hands Grin

Yes Gomummy it is colder than it usually is at this time of year, I was hoping it would have picked up a bit, blasted snow AngryGrin

Any plans for this chilly weekend, I am going to replenish my hot chocolate i have enough for one more tonight, it's so yummy, only good thing about the cold I say Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 19:06

I would have moved by now with them temps Gomummy Grin

gomummygo · 03/02/2012 19:12

Grin Tea I will have to tell DH that. He actually moved here because it is so much warmer than where he used to live! We both tease extended family about their cold weather, lol.

Tea do they have covers there for your windshield to save scraping? I used to put mine on my car at work where I had to park outside, best 9.99 I ever spent!

What is this magical pre-icer thing of which you speak Tiredmum?

Teaandcakeplease · 03/02/2012 19:32

Not sure, I probably could pick up a cover somewhere but it's only for a short period and it's not every morning the windscreen needs scrapping. It's fickle weather here. So I suspect a cover would be too much effort for lazy old me Blush

Never heard of pre icer before It would be great as it could do more than just the front windscreen like a cover would iyswim?

Kids just into bed now. DD has her first swimming lesson tomorrow, as ExH is sending me 20% at the moment and working good hours, so I wanted to use some of it to bless the kids. DD loves the water and is super confident but just doggy paddles. She's 4.6 now and more than ready for some lessons, lots of her friends have them. Do you think she'll have to have arm bands on or not? It's in the shallow teaching pool at the local centre.

DS could actually have lessons too as he is age 3 but unlike his sister, he is terrified of the water. He clings to me for dear life in the water. So I thought we could either go in the cafe and watch her through the glass or go together into the big pool together for a while and maybe DS after a few weeks would like a go at lessons after all and I could book some for him too.

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 20:23

Gomummy it's just a spray similar to de icer but you put it on the night before and it just keeps the windows wet so much easier Grin

CheerfulYank · 03/02/2012 20:27

Aw that sounds like fun Tea! I am going to sign DS up as soon as I find a class that doesn't require a parent to get in the water! Hmm

Also I think he's going to try the violin...as soon as I can get a teacher to email me back!

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 20:28

Aww tea well I hope dd has fun I would use the armbands just for safety I suppose, I hope you and ds have a fab time no matter what you choose to do, make sure you dry your hair properly if you do go in, don't want you getting ill Smile

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 20:30

Cheerful lucky him, I think the violin is a lovely instrument to play, although I can't play myself, I used to play a bit of piano/keyboard years and years ago Grin I wouldn't know where to start now though

CheerfulYank · 03/02/2012 20:41

Yes let us know how it goes Tea! :)

My dog has run away again...I should have been keeping a closer eye on him but he and DS were having a good time playing in the backyard. We do have a fence but there are two sections without any, and it's a flimsy wire sort of fence anyway. I really want a big wooden privacy fence, but our yard is quite large (I know, shouldn't complain!) and it will cost at least $800. So that's a no-go for now. :( I think for my birthday I will ask all my family and friends for gift cards to Home Depot :)

Teaandcakeplease · 03/02/2012 20:42

Can you not do a patch job on the fence for now?

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 20:47

Oh no cheerful that is so Sad is he still missing?

Teaandcakeplease · 03/02/2012 20:58

This thread is making me laugh:www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1396610-Tiggys-Date-With-A-Lady?reverse=1 I should be in the kitchen cleaning up though Blush

CheerfulYank · 03/02/2012 21:12

I am in love with that thread right now! SO funny.

Yes, we can and will do a patch job, I just hate to spend ANY money on something I despise. The fence we have now looks like something out of Shameless.

He is back! He was gone for five hours this time. Angry

gomummygo · 03/02/2012 22:22

They don't use armbands here Tea, which I remember being really surprised about because they seem like a great idea. DS started swimming lessons at 14m as he loves the water, but he still just doggie paddles despite weekly lessons since then. At 3 they go in without parents, but they start wearing life jackets then. I was a nervous wreck when he first started to go in without me, but also relieved as I hate going in the pool!

Home Depot gift cards fab idea Cheerful! Do you have a local kijiji or similar? I got a ridiculous amount of fencing on there when DS was small; the guy gave it to us at shamelessly little cost as DH and I took it down for him and cleaned up. It wasn't perfect but much better than what we had, iykwim!

Tiredmumno1 · 03/02/2012 22:23

Blimey Shock 5 hours, you must have been so worried

Although he was probably totally oblivious and having loads a fun exploring, I hope you manage to sort it

gomummygo · 04/02/2012 03:49

Realize you all are in bed by now, but just found out internet will be offline for a bit so wanted to wave 'bye, will be back soon! :)

CheerfulYank · 04/02/2012 05:30

Be well! Come back soon! :)

Teaandcakeplease · 04/02/2012 13:17

I have a new neighbour with a barky dog, come and reassure me: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/_chat/1399125-Come-and-talk-to-me-about-dogs-that-bark

Busyoldfool · 04/02/2012 13:54

This is nice - can I join? I'll pop back this evening and see.

Thanks
valiumredhead · 04/02/2012 14:26

Be back soon go :)

They don't use arm bands here for swimming lessons.

Hello busy, welcome :)

Teaandcakeplease · 04/02/2012 15:37

She went in with no arm bands but it's a shallow pool, she had fun but then came into the main pool where DS and I were after her lesson and said "look I can float" and jumped off the side and sunk to the bottom. I waited a moment thinking she'd kick her legs but she didn't, so I grabbed her and lifted a frightened girl out of the water Blush I was in the shallow end of the main pool, but it's not as shallow as her pool. Poor girl, gave her a fright. I went and found her arm bands and she swam with those in the main pool with me. So silly of me. I didn't think Blush Luckily she'll bounce back again and be raring to go next week. DS on the otherhand clung to me for the whole time Hmm
