I know that this post may have some mixed reviews and may even get me slated but I can,t help it.
Someone I know although she is a genuine case her and her husband have as much as me and dh coming in and with a brand new car thrown in for good measure.
I can only dream of a new car and I work my tripe off 5 days a week as well as dh whilst some people can sit at home and get the same income coming in it seems really unfair.

OP posts:
LittleGnu · 08/01/2012 21:27

Another pathetic thread bashing people on benefits, but not the rich. Divide and rule seems to be working very well thanks to the easily led!

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/01/2012 21:28

Nothingoldcanstay, I am honestly cringng for you that you can post this stuff, it's just so selfish and insensitive

IUseTooMuchKitchenRoll · 08/01/2012 21:29

Nothingold, they can get one, they just have to pay for it themselves because they need it for convenience not disability. Parents, single or not, can use public transport or they can walk. Disabled people that are disabled enough to get a motability car cannot.

GoingForGoalWeight · 08/01/2012 21:30

The Government is not obligated to provide single parents with a car, same goes for single people on low incomes. I always had my owcn car before my DS was born and had our first motability car when DS was six as i was too proud to claim any benefits. His condition worsened and i had NO choice but to claim.

I wish I could get on a train, I cant manage the gap or the height if its old rolling stock.

OpinionatedMum · 08/01/2012 21:31

If you are healthy you have the luxury of:

A) catching the bus
B) being able to get another job that doesn't require a car

People who are sick/disabled don't have the same scope to change their situation so need this scheme. You don't. Not at all.

GoingForGoalWeight · 08/01/2012 21:31

The Britis Government isn't a bottomless pit nothingoldcanstay, are you new to the UK? Or just totally ignorant regardless?

nothingoldcanstay · 08/01/2012 21:33

molepom -Well of course not.

I do GET why YOU need a car. I don't want you not to have one. There are lots of people who could work if there was a similar scheme for the rest of us. I don't think that's unreasonable. It also isn't unreasonable to expect a job to be able to pay enough to be able to afford a reliable second hand one. But they don't always do they. That's why I had to leave.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 08/01/2012 21:33

Also, although we could get a motability car, we chose to buy second hand as it's cheaper..so not the holy grail

WhingingNinja · 08/01/2012 21:36

WhingingNinja - how was I to get to work then? I couldn't.

ooh don't know. errm. maybe a BUS? TRAIN? or even well, at a push maybe fucking WALK! you know, like you can seeing as you aren't disabled!

Jesus fucking christ.

If you can't afford to fix your car how could you afford the £70-80 per week for the lease hire car? not to mention the up front charge you would need to pay for it if you needed anything but the basic model or you needed an adaptation....though of course you wouldn't because you aren't disabled

Honestly, if you are that desperate for a motability car see my first post on this thread. My offer still stands.

KalSkirata · 08/01/2012 21:37

you can get a bus nothingold. a disabled person often cannot. Which is motability was set up.
And its only for those disabled people whose mobility is so limited that buses/trains/taxis and walking are totally out of the question.

molepom · 08/01/2012 21:39

Of course not what? You dont have public transport? Where on earth do you live? Mars? I lived out in the back of beyond in the middle of the countryside and there were still busses.

I didnt say I have a car, I never said I needed a car. There is a similar scheme for the "rest of you" it's called finance. If you can not afford to run a car - dont have one. A car "for the rest of us", as already stated by another poster is a luxury and a job should pay for the necesseties and if you are good with your money and careful, maybe a few luxuries like a car or a holiday.

It is not a right to own a car, it is not a right to expect a job to pay enough for a car, that is YOUR responsibilty.

wubblybubbly · 08/01/2012 21:39

Precisely Kal. I don't get higher rate mobility 'cos it's a bit of a fanny on to get to work, I get it because I can't get upstairs for a piss without gasping for breath.

Bakelitebelle · 08/01/2012 21:39

Disability Living Allowance is one of the least fraudulently claimed benefits. Have my 'free' car and have my son's severe disability. I don't want it any more

Bakelitebelle · 08/01/2012 21:41

Actually, what is the point of arguing with morons? Waste of precious energy

molepom · 08/01/2012 21:43

For personal amusement more than anything else Bakelitebelle.

Tortington · 08/01/2012 21:46

if you envy disabled people

you are clearly and utter utter twonk.

if you envy people on benefits becuae they recieve more than you - which they just don't then you need to look at your own life and stop curtain twitching

you have a black soul full of bitterness.

if life isn't treating you kindly - only you can change it

Bakelitebelle · 08/01/2012 21:47

molepom, that is actually quite a good reason to continue

boredandrestless · 08/01/2012 21:48

Why do these threads get to stay up? I need the whole 'education' line will be trotted out by MNHQ but do we really need to leave them up to know hat ignorant bigots exist?

They are soo upsetting to people who have a family member with a disability, or have a disability themselves. Sad Would you rather a member of your household had a disability chocaddict? That your life, expectations, and options are limited in both your day to life and your future. You really ought to be careful what you wish for!

OP perhaps you should stop being such a horrid person look at your finances closely.

molepom · 08/01/2012 21:49

Grin Might as well get some enjoyment out of a thread that slags my situation off.

GoingForGoalWeight · 08/01/2012 21:49

Have my DS disabilities and 'free car'. i don't want them anymore. To top Bakellites offer i throw in a jelly, your choice which flavour i don't mind.

nothingoldcanstay · 08/01/2012 21:50

Ok can we just drop the assumption that I live where you do.

There is a bus but only every 2 hours. The train station is 45 mins away. Doesn't make for an easy commute anywhere. Regardless of the fact that someone has to look after my son at 7am if I had to be at work at 9 assuming I found work in the nearest town. Guess what we don't have childminders out here. It doesn't matter though does it.

I get your life is tougher than mine but that doesn't help me get to work. I'm not saying you not entitled to what you have though. But yes I can work but no I can't bloody do it without a car.
WhingingNinja -I'm sure someone just said that the money goes straight to the lease hire people. I can't afford £70 to lease a car because if I could I would bloody save up and buy one.

Anyway I need to get on now.

duchesse · 08/01/2012 21:51

Ah yes, this old chestnut.

The two families in our hamlet on benefits do definitely seem to be living the life of riley, unable to afford any kind of heating and struggling around for money for food. Hmm

YABU.
