Who seem to think that if you're above a certain shoe size, you want to wear horrific things that are actually less preferable that a bin bag and elastic band around your feet!!!!

really makes me vvery angry and shoe shopping unbearable. im a 9 EEE have been since I was 11 ,

I've always has this problem , and now it looks like I'll be getting married in some horrific creation. because I made the grave sin of being born with large feet.

I had to get my bridesmaid size 10 EEE shoes, and they had to be ordered in especially from the place we got the dresses from. I think they were that rainbow collection, the ones that can be dyed any colour. They had quite a big range to choose from, although less than the smaller sizes, and they weren't cheap. But there are nice ones out there.

YANBU go barefoot. I did at my wedding (or at least took them off as soon as at the reception.

I'm a 9 too YADNBU I get fed up when I type heels 9 into eBay and constantly get shoes that have drag, transgender, transsexual in the dissing description...not everyone with feet over a 6 are aspiring to star in Priscilla Queen of the Dessert!

I have the opposite problem - very narrow feet and a very shallow footbed. Most shoes are miles too wide for me, so I end up putting in a pair of innersoles and wearing 2 pairs of socks. Which you can't really do in summer and retain a sense of style!

A friend of mine who posts on Mumsnet sent me a link to your conversation as we think I may be able to answer alot of your questions.

I am the proud owner of size 10 feet and have had ridiculously large feet since the age of 11 so I feel your pain. Over the years I have not seen any major advances in shops stocking larger sizes so I have decided to do something about it myself and in the Spring I am opening a ladies shoe shop stocking only sizes 8-11 (42-45) in Lutterworth, Leicestershire. I have spent the last 6 months sourcing suppliers and I hope the collection will have something for everyone from teenagers to the more mature lady!

Initially I do not intend to offer online sales as this is widely available, what is lacking is an actual shop outside of London that you can go to, try on every pair, see what really fits well and feels comfortable and then buy a pair in every colour!! Why should us big footed ladies not get to experience the joys of shoe shopping like "normal" footed girls??

As for wedding shoes, I am hoping to stock a few "bridal" types although the widths may be an issue as they don't tend to be offered in different widths. If you have a decent budget then maybe you could look into have a special pair handmade for your big day and then have the dyed after the event so you can get more wear out of them?

I was size 8 at 13. Now a size 9 (aged 26) but I do wonder whether that's not because women's feet generally have been getting bigger: the opposite of vanity sizing, sort of thing.

My boss (who's done the full society of shoe-fitters course) tells me feet stop growing in early 20's along with the rest of you

Size 9 At age 11 back in the 70s.
There were no shoes my size apart from horrible lace up granny type shoes. When I went for the secondary school induction day one of the less lovely other girls introduced me as 'this is whatdoiknow, she has size 9 feet'. Great.

When I came to London for uni I found Lilley and Skinner tall and small shoe shop on Oxford street. It was in the basement of the main shop but I can't tell you the joy of what looked like a normal shoe shop full of shoes I could wear.

Wedding shoes were a bit more difficult. It never occurred to me to go to a wedding shop so I looked all over for the right shoes. I still remember a shoe shop manager in Edinburgh being very helpful and calling out to an assistant 'Janice, Janice, where do we keep the really big sizes?'.

I did eventually find some but it was a long search. Sad that it's still a problem for brides 22 years on.

On the plus size my feet seem now to have adjusted down to a size 8 and I bought a pair of the most beautiful knee boots yesterday. My teenage self would be so jealous!
