to think that Andy Carroll makes Liverpool a worse team?

Seriously, I'm annoyed that the was the ball is just lumped towards to him. He isn't his fault that the other players are doing that but he isn't even winning enough of them. Even Clichy beat him in the air tonight!

What?

ShellyBoobs · 03/01/2012 22:55

I can't understand what you're saying?

If you're saying that Caroll wasn't worth the money, then I agree.

poloi · 03/01/2012 22:57

YANBU Carroll is absolutely dire

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2012 22:59

He looks like a pirate.

He fitted well at Newcastle, can't say the same for Liverpool though.

toweraboveyou · 03/01/2012 22:59

I'm saying that when Carroll is in the team, Liverpool change the way they play to try and accommodate his style. But it doesn't work and they are a shambles in the final third. Bellamy is far more effective in the forward role.

FFS - isn't there a sports section somewhere on MN? This is not AIBU stuff.

toweraboveyou · 03/01/2012 23:02

I didn't realise there was a specific theme to AIBU?

OP posts:

Also, there are threads on AIBU that could be put in the TV, Feminism and Camping. Go and pick on them if you don't like football.

I suppose that they try to adapt to Carroll because they're trying to get some value out of him although it's not working, as you say. I would try to get him scoring again, somehow, just to up his value so they can offload him.

Totally agree with your thoughts on Bellamy. He might be a complete arse, but he's effective.

toweraboveyou · 03/01/2012 23:31

I think they'd struggle to get £10 million for him at the moment. They may have to scrap him for parts.

Fortunately i'm a city fan and I enjoyed his poor performance today.
Newcastle played around him using him as the main focus hence the goal tally he got at St James's Park.
Liverpool aren't as direct so he doesn't get the ball when the defenders are on the back foot enough.
3 points to City though and onwards and upwards :)

toweraboveyou · 04/01/2012 09:29

There won't be many games where you win 3-0 and Kompany gets man of the match! Mancini's antics were appalling though.

I don't like Carroll at Liverpool. I thought he was good at Newcastle and I thought he's do well now with Liverpool but it isn't working out. Bellamy would be a much better choice for them up front.

Didn't like Mancini's behaviour but I can understand that if fans get carried away then managers will do sometimes too.

DietintheNewYear · 04/01/2012 09:33

him and the rest of the team would do better if they took their white hoods off

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 09:38

Very funny Diet. As an aside, I don't want Suarez playing for us ever again. All these attempts to explain what he said and why make me cringe.

We paid 35million for someone who'd had half a good season and was injured for months. Showing his real value now.

iloveeverton · 04/01/2012 09:44

In my opinion the long ball game is never a good one. It defenders pickings all day. YANBU.

On the subject of Suarez I don't think Kenny Dalglish has ever known when to accept he was wrong.

DietintheNewYear · 04/01/2012 09:51

Techno Wow, a red with a sensible attitude to the Suarez affair! You are in a very small minority indeed.

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 10:11

Diet, Reds fans have always prided themselves on being fair and knowledgable. Sadly, one of the forums I look at is too busy arguing over the semantics to step back and see the simple fact. If he needs to explain what he said then he clearly said something he shouldnt. I don't want people like that at the club. Evra being a troublemaker doesn't mean it didn't happen. I'm disappointed that LFC and Dalgleish are speaking up for Suarez, too. Although they are probably covering their own embarrassment and sticking up for their investment.
Should be sacked, however good or expensive he is.

Who do you support? I doubt your fans are paragons of virtue, in the main, either.

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 10:12

John Barnes backheeling a banana off the pitch has always been an iconic image for LFC and the fans. Shame that's being forgotten in the furore of "he's a red so he can't be a bigot".

poloi · 04/01/2012 10:27

Liverpool fans are completely deluded about nearly all aspects of their club and some of their fans responses to Suarez have been shocking.

mayorquimby · 04/01/2012 10:29

the problem for Carroll if he is ever going to succeed is that his 2 main failures at Liverpool are cyclical in a way that makes them self-fufilling prophecies.
Firstly there's the issue with the long ball game. It doesn't suit Liverpool so when Carroll comes on it makes the team look worse, therefore the easy conclusion is the team are better without Carroll. However it's not Carrolls fault that the team seem to go into a lazy reaction of seeing him up-front and deciding that to launch it up to him is the best way. So something which has nothing to do with decisions on the part of Carroll and which make the team inherently worse occurs every time he steps on to the pitch.

The second issue is that he's not properly match fit. With a new striker anyway, but particularly with a guy of AC's buil and stature they need a run of games to get anywhere near their best in terms of fitness and confidence. Carroll has never gotten this. He gets to come on as a sub or else gets a start here and there and then back to the bench. As such every time he goes on the pitch and doesn't score it just adds to the weight of evidence against him as being a flop. However he's realistically never going to hit any sort of form without a run of games, however his lack of form when getting a solitary game has precluded him from getting a run of uninterrupted games.

However the absolute shambles that is Suarez and the clubs handling of the whole incident should now give him that chance.

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:29

Suarez - luurved the FAs diplomacy in saying some of his evidence was unreliable he is a lying racist cunt.

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:33

I disagree mayor - his lack of match practice doesn't hide his lack of skill and ability. He is fit enough to make a difference if he had the abilty to.
Indeed it is more of the difference in style of the team - his skill-type just doesn't fit in to swift inter-change moves forward. Bellamy much better for eg.

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:35

There is a much-ignored Rolling Footie Thread in Dadsnet, fwiw?

DietintheNewYear · 04/01/2012 10:37

Techno I am of the one true faith. I am an Everton fan.

We have our fair share of nutters, racists and general low life that attaches itself to any team.

The banana incident with John Barnes still shames the club, but led to a real examination of our image and real changes.

What we don't have is the deluded, cult-like approach of many reds which is bringing you ridicule over the Suarez affair.
