to think that Andy Carroll makes Liverpool a worse team?

Seriously, I'm annoyed that the was the ball is just lumped towards to him. He isn't his fault that the other players are doing that but he isn't even winning enough of them. Even Clichy beat him in the air tonight!

Well I don't think anyone could disagree that Bellamy is a better option. He's quick, mobile and has suprissingly good technique.
I meant to start my post with something along the lines of "if he has any chance of succeeding at Liverpool..." because to this point he has been an unmitigated disaster and if I was to put any money on it, he'll continue to be one. However I do think that at the same time he hasn't ever really been settled or been afforded a proper crack at the whip.
When he played at Newcastle he wasn't simply a wrecking ball up front winning headers (although that was part of his game as he was a monster for them at times) but also his link up play and striking technique were often praised and he continuosly got the most hackneyed of cliches "good feet for a big man" etc.
Where as now with Liverpool he looks like a crocodile learning to walk on its hind legs and can't seem to kick a ball out of his way.
In the match the other night against Newcastle he got into a great position free in the box and then his first touch was so bad it was essentially a pass back to the keeper.
Now simple mistakes like that are not because he doesn't have the ability to control a ball or finish a one on one, it's comes down to either match practice or a huge loss of confidence, something which must be overcome if he's to have even the slightest shred of hope at making it at Liverpool (which I hope he doesn't because all of Liverpools woes make me smile)

Agree with Quimby that 'the lump it forward to the big man' seems to be the default option when Carroll is playing. He was a success at Newcastle as the team under Houghton was set up to provide him with balls from wide areas. It is apparent that Liverpool fans won't tolerate their fans playing long ball on a regular basis, the traditions of the 'Liverpool Way' demanding a short passing game.

Much like Walcott at Arsenal, I don't think he is an inherently bad player, just at a club where they can't play their natural game at his current club.

Mind you with Suarez and Carroll up front, it is a bit like the Itchy and Scratchy show: 'they bite, they fight, they fight and bite and fight.'

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 10:45

Aside from calling yourselves the people's club, eh? Grin

We cling to our history like it's gold, where we should accept that top 6 is an achievement for us these days. Man U will be closer to 30 titles by the time we can realistically challenge for another. Also, the Champions League should be champions only, all this 4th place nonsense is exactly that.

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:47

Torres and Carroll - dream team.

MildlyNarkyPuffin · 04/01/2012 10:50

May I interest you in a sulky Bulgarian?

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:51

No!! We adore our sulky Bulgarian! He actually scores goals for us, better than anyone else we have!!

karetta · 04/01/2012 10:53

PansPeople- Nice, just need to play Arshavin behind them

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 10:53

Torres form makes me laugh at present.
Suarez has made me sick and the defending of him is making me angry. If it were the mancs we'd be screaming at them for supporting a racist.
Bellamy is our best signing, imo. We should never have let him go. It's bad that a 30 odd year old freebie is who we look to to raise the game.

mayorquimby · 04/01/2012 10:55

whoah whoah whoah.
Nobody is taking Dimigoal Berbagod from us.
Easily my favourite player in the United team. He's just a class above.

karetta · 04/01/2012 10:56

techno- You not hopeful of finishing Top 4 then?

PansPeople · 04/01/2012 10:58

freebie? Worry not. Cantona was £1m.

not sure why Citeh let Bellamy go, tbh. He was in a similar mould to Carlos Tevez. Oooh hang on..Grin

nurter · 04/01/2012 11:00

YANBU but you can't help but laugh at Liverpool and their fans as they've stumble from calamity to calamity in recent seasons

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 13:51

Top 4 is very tough, all the teams above are playing better than us. For over 10 years now, we've stumbled when we have a chance to move up the table, regardless of the manager. We're always "one player from a title run".

At least Everton know they'll be mid table Wink.

nurter, we only have ourselves to blame. Bemoaning Chelsea and Citeh, while searching for our own sugar daddy.

FlangelinaBallerina · 04/01/2012 14:11

Technoviking, good for you for coming out and saying it. I've been astonished by some of the things that relatively sensible, no more tribalistic than average Liverpool fans of my acquaintance have said about this. And the shit on the football forums too!

I'm going to get flamed for this, but I like Carroll as a player, and I do think he'll improve (ducks).

Kayzr · 04/01/2012 14:32

I think Carroll will improve. But it will take a while.
A friend of mine is a Liverpool fan and last night put on Facebook that he thinks Dalgleish should be sacked. Was quite Shock at that.

neshnosher · 04/01/2012 15:26

Liverpool are guilty of what us City fans had been guilty of and have their thoughts planted firmly in the past. Maybe they'll go into the wilderness like many big clubs have done in the last 20 years or so?
King Kenny defending Suarez hasn't really helped his cause and he needs to backtrack or lose the respect of the footballing minions following this story.
I've got a soft spot for Everton and Moyes TBH and what they've done on a shoestring plus the comparison of being the poor relative in a footballing mad city like Manchester City were with Manure.

rhondajean · 04/01/2012 16:08

I'm a Liverpool and Celtic fan and I've no time for so called king kenny and his opininions since he was paraded at parkhead and went on to spend his entire time playing golf while we fell apart and poor John Barnes potential managerial career was ruined. Pausing only to buy us a Brazilian defender called, I kid you not here, Scheidt.

Carroll has been a bad move so far but I haven't seen enough games this season to know how substantially he changes the team play. Suarez is a disaster for a team I love dearly. Talented yes but sometimes, it's not enough.

FlangelinaBallerina · 04/01/2012 16:47

City certainly aren't anyone's poor relative anymore...

neshnosher · 04/01/2012 16:59

This is true.
Thankfully :)

Technoviking · 04/01/2012 20:28

Carroll is too slow, seemingly, too. He looks a bit lost.

OriginalJamie · 04/01/2012 20:30

Oh God. Fecking football. Is nowhere safe?

I do not give a tiny rat's arse.

OriginalJamie · 04/01/2012 20:30
toweraboveyou · 04/01/2012 21:36

Massive Darren Bent to Liverpool rumours still lingering. He'd score a bagful with the service he'd get.

Original Jamie -

An AIBU thread about football is obviously not safe from football. All the other threads on AIBU are. Not sure why you've commented if you have no interest.

Wonder what the score would be in the Newcastle v Manc game if he were still there though...?
