to think that people with facial tattoos are bound to regret it one day?

Young girl in Tesco, had what looked like a treble clef tattooed on her temple and the side of her forehead.

Call me a judgmental wanker, but surely it makes no sense to have your face tattooed?

Those who do it to them should also be jailed.
(You and I are on a roll today)

Shakey1500 · 03/01/2012 18:56

It's not one of my choices no, but who knows? I'd hazard a guess that most would regret it later on, especially when it no longers looks as it should etc but I'm sure there are some that won't.

yellowraincoat · 03/01/2012 18:57

You know something, it is a bit judgemental but you're right, I just don't get it. One of the very few things that I just can't bring myself to get over is tattoos and if a guy had one, I don't think I could be in a serious relationship with him. I just don't think they look nice and on your face, it just seems silly.

It's fashionable now but I don't think it always will be. Skin is SO nice why would you want to cover it up. I don't get it.

HarrietSchulenberg · 03/01/2012 18:57

Snigger. I can't wait to see what it looks like when she's 90 and wrinkly. Wonder what sort of high-flying, well paid job she'll get?

toweraboveyou · 03/01/2012 18:57

Some of them will, some of them won't.

CotherMuckingFunt · 03/01/2012 18:58

Did you see that girl that had Drake's name tattooed across her forehead?? I'll try and find a link...

aldiwhore · 03/01/2012 18:59

"Young girl" makes me shudder and think WAIT. "Old bloke" would make me think he's loved enough to not have long enough left to regret it. Maybe I'm ageist!

YABU getorf but only because out of the thousands of people who WILL regret it, there's a few that will love their tats a lifetime.

What about that 'young girl' who allegedly asked for one or a few stars and got a face full? Bet she regrets it.

CotherMuckingFunt · 03/01/2012 19:00

Bets on how long until she regrets this

FutureNannyOgg · 03/01/2012 19:06

Most tattooists don't do face or hands because their insurance won't cover it if someone sues saying it ruined their career.

tigermoll · 03/01/2012 19:07

We regard facial tattooing as a very extreme act, because it is so rare. Other societies where it is more common do not have our extreme reaction.

People who have facial tattoos in western society often (but by no means always) have a deep-seated reason for either a) wanting to change who they see in the mirror or b) feeling the need to isolate themselves from mainstream society, - often because it has rejected/marginalised them.

Put it this way, - it is very rare for a happy, well-adjusted person who had a stable, happy upbringing and feels that society has a lot to offer them, to elect to tattoo their face. So it is unlikely that the person you saw got her tattoo on a whim one day 'because it would be cool'.

My tattoo artist won't do faces or hands.

Most sensible ones won't.

Several also refuse to do necks too.

Shakey1500 · 03/01/2012 19:09

CMF Shock

Ye Gads. There's no words. Well there is...D R A K E. Across a forehead.

I know people who are tattooed everywhere, but they have left their faces well alone.

The only two people in our town I can think of with facial tattoos are both on methadone, I see them going for their dose at the chemists every so often Sad. So, as tigermoll said, not happy-well adjusted people.

That rapper, Lil Wayne, has facial tattoos doesn't he?

aldiwhore · 03/01/2012 19:12

Excellent post tiger... I would see certain people as utterly normal for having facial tattoos if it was part of their culture and had meaning attached, and if everyone in their world did it. I wouldn't bat an eyelid.

I see people with facial tatoos here in the UK (who are not part of the above) and think either a) they must have a deep seated reason for it (which wouldn't always be a 'good' reason) or b) they're a twat that can't think beyond tomorrow.

In the UK facial tattooing IS an extreme act. So out of those people who do it, some are simply being rebellious and will regret it, others will have thought about it seriously for a long period of time, and others will simply change their mind over time.

Skin IS beautiful, that is a fact for me. However, the Art of tats can be beautiful also, even facial tats.

ElectricSoftParade · 03/01/2012 19:19

Have seen a more recent pic of the Drake girl's tats. She now has a blusher tattoo across her cheeks. Hmm

My window cleaner has stars and tears running down his face. He is a lovely bloke but I haven't raised the courage to ask him what they mean/why he chose to do it. None of my business really but it does give me a shock when I see facial tattoos.

theincredibequeenofwands · 03/01/2012 19:22

Tears are common prison tattoos.

If they're just outlined it mean that you can't cry and if they're filled in it means you've killed someone.

Apparantly. Is what I was told by someone with tear tattoos.

It may all be bollocks.

ElectricSoftParade · 03/01/2012 19:23

ElectricSoftParade · 03/01/2012 19:25

Well, you learn something every day! Thanks Queen

Shutupanddrive · 03/01/2012 19:26

YANBU, both people in the links above look ridiculous. WTF were they thinking? Shock

TroublesomeEx · 03/01/2012 19:26

My tattooist said he wouldn't do hands or anywhere that could be seen above a collar; so necks and faces.

Everywhere else you can cover, should you ever need to.

He also said most reputable places had similar policies.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2012 19:28

Thought it was outlined for each woman they've raped, coloured in for each woman they've murdered?
This may also be bollocks.

Zombi · 03/01/2012 19:28

I'm a huge fan of body modification so ONE tattoo on the face is nothing compared to some of the stuff I've seen done. The stories behind the reasin for eac piece are usually very interesting and matter a great deal to the person having the piercing / tat / brand / whatever.

For the moment I only have three tats and (hree piercings but I plan on much heavier work when the kids are old enough to not pull on the face metal.

I think it's fine if you're not into it but perhaps you're being a bit limited in your outlook on other people's choice of body art.

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 03/01/2012 19:30

Hands and necks are quite common now though (a la Mrs Cole)

I have a tattoo on my neck, didnt have any trouble getting it from a very reputable artist?

And when I was still in work, I have employed someone with a facial tattoo.
