Young girl in Tesco, had what looked like a treble clef tattooed on her temple and the side of her forehead.

Call me a judgmental wanker, but surely it makes no sense to have your face tattooed?

i have 2 tattoos (not on face) and i don't regret them.

some people will regret a tattoo and some will not.

*reason for each piece

Tears are gang related. Which side of the face you have them on identifies which gang you belong to. A tear outline is a loss of a gang member and a filed in tear is a kill they have done.

I have clearly been watching to much Ross Kemp.

She didn't look like the person who wanted to raise a two fingered salute to society - she was a pretty girl, perfectly normal hair, make up and dress. Just with this dozy treble clef with extra swirls.

I suppose you can easily cover it with make up in the future, but I just think of all the places to tattoo yourself, why choose the sifde of your head?

Funny, all the people I know with facial tattoos are happy, well-adjusted individuals...doesn't seem to harm their career choices either.

Having said that, the bloke on JK does look like a lo-rent version of Skullboy...can't see him appearing with Lady Gaga.

reelingintheyears · 03/01/2012 19:42

I knew girls at school who scratched 'Donny' into their arms with compasses from geometry sets then inked them in.Shock

I suppose there are older middle aged women out there now with 'Donny' still on their arms.Grin

Didn't Amy Winehouse get a clear tear tattoo when that waster she married went to prison?

Zombi · 03/01/2012 19:47

''She didn't look like the person who wanted to raise a two fingered salute to society - she was a pretty girl, perfectly normal hair, make up and dress. Just with this dozy treble clef with extra swirls.''

You clearly have a lot of misconceptions about the type of people who have body art on their faces. That this girl doesn't match your rigid view of a person with facial tattoos highlights your perceptions and proves them erronious. People of any background and style choose facial tattoos.

Why the face? Why not, I say.

LidlDonkey · 03/01/2012 19:51

Worse than tattoos IMO are those horrible ear-stretcher things. At least when you get old you can have your tattoos lasered away. Big fat holes in your lobes will look urgghhh forever.

Zombi · 03/01/2012 19:52

reeling my aunt has a blue ''indian ink'' circle tattooed on her arm from schoolshe says it looks like mould growing on her arm :)

inkyfingers · 03/01/2012 19:55

Zombi - I was really interested to read your post because you explained something why people do body art etc. I guess my feeling is that piercings/tattoos etc can be alarming/disconcerting whatever and does that affect how people treat you? Is it an area of discrimination at work, because some might say if you aim to look really different from the mainstream, you make it harder to be part of the mainstream and that can include all sorts of people you might actually want to include you. It's not the same as racism, sexism etc.

I've always been confused by the stereotype of the 'unemployed' having tattoos.

Tattoos are fooking expensive!

I love tattoos, well done tattoos, but loathe the ones on the face. Saying that though the painted one they gave Eddie Izzard in Treasure Island really makes him look good!

Alouisee · 03/01/2012 20:17

Can't bear them, facial or otherwise.

I have a butterfly on my left temple.

I am a well adjusted member of society, I'm nearly 30 and have wanted my tattoo for about ten years. Finally got it done in May. I love it. I doubt I will regret it later in life, im old enough and ugly enough to be secure in my choices.

Should be a pic on my profile from the last time this debate came up :)

Get0rf · 03/01/2012 20:20

at the misconceptions.

''Inkyfingers'' for me, personally, it's about challenging people's perceptions of ''normality''

I have a diasbility that's been the bain of my life through endless bullying (never had any peer support with it either so feel very isolated with it tbh) and when I was 17 I said to myself, ''You're never going to fit in my dear so you might as well look cool with it''

This was after a very bad breakdown and using piercings and tattoos as a means of embracing my differences and encouraging other people to accept differences in others too.

People can analyse that however they wish but it does mean a great deal to me. Society lways been frightened of ''different'' and I've had some awful life-experience to back that up.

Employment-wise my disability has been more of an issue. My piercings are discreet as are my tattoos (for the moment!) And most of my friends are tattoed etc themselves.

I get it done first and foremost because I like it. Second tsend a message that different is OK.

rockinastocking · 03/01/2012 20:21

I've got three tattoos. I work as a teacher, and one tattoo is visible. I've had no issues at all. I think tattoos are more mainstream than ever. I tend to judge those who judge them, tbh. Live and let live!

Get0rf · 03/01/2012 20:22

Those great big ear things - Dstepson had those for a while, the holes shrink over time (you train them to get smaller by wearing smaller earrings gradually).

So there won't be lots of old emos with flappy earlobes walking round the place. Grin

Does anyone remember the girl who had 56 stars tattooed on her face and insisted he did them whilst she was asleep in the chair after only asking for 3 stars? (haha anyone who has had a tattoo would know that would be difficult!).

Bet she regrets it now despite what she says. Also a lovely tattooist offering to pay half the cost of the laser surgery needed to remove them.
