I mean, he wasnt really was he? Somewhat rubbery looking if you ask me

I'm sure I read somewhere he had terribly bad breath too ...

I shold explain I've been dipping in and out of Teacher's Pet on TV (Doris Day and Clark Gable) Grin

Give me Yul Brynner/Steve McQueen/James Stewart etc. anyday!

yes, Sal. She has a beautiful nature, and such patience with everyone. I v. occasionally think 'give me a wild child to argue with!' But then it just isn't her! She will have her moments, like your dd, but I am investing in her to come out well from them.Smile

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 23:43

Aw Going ForGoal - C'mon girl.
Grace Kelly may have been beautiful but she was a tad stiff and cold by my reckoning.
I'll bet you are a lovely person in RL.

GFG - Sal's right - you don't know how Grace Kelly was as a person, really. No-one is Shrek, apart from Shrek. So you won't be.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 23:49

Pan - your DD will take after her Mum I bet!

Mine did Wink

It's rather endearing to see her being an amazing mum to her DC when I think back to the upheaval she put us through!

My father is totally unashamedly in love with Ava Gardner.

Clark Gable might not be 'handsome' but he is totally sexy in GWTW, rape or no rape. And yes the book is fantastic and very sad.

There are many good looking actors but I still maintain no one holds a candle to my first love Gregory Peck. Not only gorgeous but tall too. Come to think of it all the actors in those days were tall. And masculine- these days we get dwarves like Tom Cruise or pin ups like the Twilight boys. Sigh.

By the way I'm surprised Cary Grant hasn't been mentioned. My grandmother met him in Cannes as a young woman (or rather bumped into him in a hotel lobby and was chuffed because the same thing happened the following day and he smiled at her and told her he remembered her from the day before). 50 years later she was still telling the story! Grin

Actually underneath the icy exterior Grace Kelly was a serial co-star shagger who had countless affairs.
Rumour is Prince Rainier was so jealous of her past that after her marriage not only was she forbidden to act but he made her lose contact with her Hollywood contacts.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 23:54

anon - Cary Grant has been mentioned! By me and others.
He was divine.

As to height - I give you Alan Ladd. His leading ladies had to stand in a trench or he had to stand on a box.
Richard Widmark and Tony Curtis were not that tall either.

Sal - er..no. dd's mum isn't the springboard for dd, I'm afraid. Long story!

On beautiful people, a friend of mine met Elizabeth Taylor in Rome in the late 1960's - had a brief conversation with her in a restuarant, and has been bewitched ever since.

Salmotrutta · 21/12/2011 23:56

Shock at Grace Kelly story!!

Oh - I'm so sorry Pan. I appear to have done my usual foot in mouth trick.
Blush - my profound apologies.
Forgive me.

I had such a crush on titchy Audie Murphy? Olivia De Haviland was beautiful.

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 22/12/2011 00:01

oh not so! It's just been a bit difficult, tis all. dd has massive character, and she knows she is very loved and that is the main thing.

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 22/12/2011 00:02

And we have Steve McQueen to mention yet? Shame on us all!

anonacfr · 22/12/2011 00:06

OK so I forgot about dinky little Humphrey Bogart but I never found him attractive.
I was thinking of Peck, Cooper, Stewart, Heston, Wayne etc. All tall. It seemed to be more the norm back in the days.

Now it tends to be the exception.

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 22/12/2011 00:07

or Peter O Toole as Lawrence of Arabia!

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2011 00:10

Peter O'Toole - very beautiful and almost fragile IYSWIM.

Salmotrutta · 22/12/2011 00:13

Coming from a family of very tall people anon I do rather favour those of height. Grin

OP posts:
anonacfr · 22/12/2011 00:16

Burt Lancaster and Robert Mitchum were tall too!!!

Young Henry Fonda was rather beautiful.

And it is wrong to find Captain von Trapp quite sexy? Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 22/12/2011 00:16

And we have Steve McQueen to mention yet?
He was mentioned in the OP. Personally I thought he usually looked a bit scruffy.

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 22/12/2011 00:19

Pretty, but horrid in real life, apparently.

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 22/12/2011 00:19

and Vivien Leigh, anyone? how can one person be so beautiful?

anonacfr · 22/12/2011 00:19

Off to sleep singing Edelweiss to myself...

DeePanCrisPandEeeven · 22/12/2011 00:20

Steve McQeen - yes he was in the OP, but such a beautiful man needs mentioning at least twice.HmmGrin

scottishmummy · 22/12/2011 00:38

mcqueen was a wife beating thug
his misigony
needs a mention
looks are superficial
certainly not beautiful behaviours

FellatioNelson · 22/12/2011 04:33

I'll tell you who I swooned over as an eight year old girl - Howard Keel. What a man. All those hours spent watching Seven Brides etc., at my GPs house rubbed off on me, and even as an old bloke in Dallas he was a drop dead gorgeous hunk of man. All charming and gentlemanly too, with that deep, slightly strict and masterful voice.

Now. Who has got their It's a wonderful life DVD cued up and ready to go for Christmas Eve?
