to make assumptions about adults because of their names?

I have a lovely friend called Pam, so to me all Pams are lovely. I was really taken aback recently when I met a Pam who was really horrible. What names have you got stereotypical views of?

I think they just mean ages to me

Joans, Jeans, Margarets, Bettys and Ediths are Grandmas
Franks, Alfs, Geoffs and Harolds are Grandads
Susans, Pamelas, Shirleys, Annes, Grahams, Neils and Nigels are middle aged
Sharons, Traceys, Tinas, Stephanies, Christines, Ians and Garys are 30s-40s
Kimberlys, Rebeccas, Nicolas, Louises, Waynes, Seans, Ryans and Craigs are 20s-30s

StandingAlone · 20/12/2011 17:40

Becky/kelly/kirsty/marie are horrible, bossy and spiteful.

ViviPrudolf · 20/12/2011 17:40

If my FB friend list is anything to go by, if you're 32, Sarahs are just ubiquitous numbering 13 they beat the 10 Claires, 10 Andrews and 10 Matthews.

nogrammerwhatssoever · 20/12/2011 17:42

pams are devious bitches

Rachels are always lovely and kind and do the right thing as well as being fun.
Paulas are traditional and reliable but not especially exciting.

Oakmaiden · 20/12/2011 17:46

Also I never trust a grown-up Becky

Becky/kelly/kirsty/marie are horrible, bossy and spiteful.

Isn't this strange? I might be bossy, but I don't think I am mean and spiteful :( But then I'm not "Becky" to everyone, either. My parents and husband call me Becky, my niece and nephew call me Becca and most other people call me Rebecca (I call myself Rebecca too.)

However, I do think people judge by names, and when I used to work as a midwife I did use "Becky" at work, as it was a more approachable and friendlier name than Rebecca (which just sounds stiff).

As I say - I do think of myself as a Rebecca though.

Timothys are wimps and mummies boys who live at home for ever. They go train, bus or plane spotting. Tims are very different entirely.

QueenLush · 20/12/2011 17:48

I've never met an Amanda/Mandy or a Ruth that I have liked.
Lucy is an insecure, jealous cow who bitches about you behind your back.
Dawn grew up on a council estate but married money and is still chippy about her background.
Nicola giggles a lot and is a bit vacuous.
Rachel is too good to be true and lovely to everyone.
Helen is a bit barking.
Juliette was misnamed and is a rugby playing bull dyke.
Kim is the life and soul of the party.
Lisa thinks she should be, and is generally very good looking.
Joanne is dullness personified.
Anne is just there.

FizzyChristmasFairyDust · 20/12/2011 17:48

PomBear, I know a Christine like that as well.

jandymaccomesback · 20/12/2011 17:49

Leahs are big fat ugly slags, and also slags. Did I mention Leahs are slags?
Sarahs are bitches.
Charlotte's have dark hair.
Chris's have bad attitudes to women.
Beccas/Beckys are 4 stone overweight and have blonde perms.
Lisas/Kerrys are common as muck.
Louises are nice but dim.

FizzyChristmasFairyDust · 20/12/2011 17:49

QueenLush, do we know each other?! I know people with several of the names that you mentioned and they are exactly as you describe them, especially the Helen.

FatGoose · 20/12/2011 17:50

roland is abit of a rat
marjorie is a bit prim
beverleys are normally cows

LePruneDeMaTante · 20/12/2011 17:50

Rebecca isn't stiff, it's a lovely name. But the one I knew was a total psycho Grin

misdee · 20/12/2011 17:54

i'm not a bitch :(

HardCheese · 20/12/2011 17:54

I find that my name assumptions are entirely based on girls I was at primary school with - for some reason I was 'imprinted' with my ideas about certain grls' names then and only then.

Therefore all Amandas have permanently snotty noses they wipe on their sleeves, Viviens and Joannes are bullies, Sharons are kind of like oversized labradors always falling over their own feet, Caoimhes have greying teeth aged ten, Denises have literacy problems, and Marys are very old-fashioned country girls whose mothers put ribbons in their hair and bring packed lunches wrapped in the wrapping from sliced pans. Niamhs are terrible teachers' pets and Yvonnes have religious nutcases as parents.

My only adult name prejudice is that I'd never met a Nigel I liked - so I was completely gobsmacked to meet an astonishingly likeable Nigel last summer.

jandymaccomesback · 20/12/2011 17:54

Leah is absolutely horrible and can't be trusted.
Rachael moans a lot and is never happy.
