as the bloody thing loves climbing my xmas tree so much, she gets up inside the tree and climbs, the tree is shaking, baubles falling off then when she is 3/4 of the way up she sits there looking at you with claws ready, just move one bauble and this black clawed paw shoots out Xmas Hmm

My cat forgets about the tree and every so often is shocked to see it, lunges at it, then runs away scared.

My cats is not right though and pisses down the bath plug hole if we haven't scooped the litter tray in time yet cannot come to terms with being able to go to the loo outside.

I bloody hate the litter tray Angry

Whateveryousaymustberight · 10/12/2011 11:00

Ha! That is what I love about cats. I love that they can't resist climbing flimsy trees and giving them a damn good shaking. They are the nuts.

Annpan88 · 10/12/2011 11:01

BUT I am safe in the knowledge that no one is on MN complaining about said cat shitting in their garden

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 10/12/2011 11:09

our cat shits right under our front room window Angry
the tree is looking a tad sorry for itself this morning, she's doing this every bloody evening, the first i know of it is when the tree starts shaking and things start falling off Hmm will it last till xmas day, at this rate no!!!

"My cats is not right though and pisses down the bath plug hole"

sounds like a very hygenic and thoughtful cat to me. You should be pleased.

Vinomcstephens · 10/12/2011 11:46

I have nothing useful to add cat wise but I literally snorted with laughter when I read your thread title - my mind literally boggled! Grin

aldiwhore · 10/12/2011 11:49

We spray the base with the animal repellant you can get for bins, cat stays away. You only need to do it once.

Annpan: My cat forgets about the tree and every so often is shocked to see it, lunges at it, then runs away scared Our cat does this too, but she's very poor sighted (unless dark and in mouseview mode) so she doesn't see it until its looming over her!

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 10/12/2011 11:51

Have you considered four small ball-and-chains - one on each paw? Might be less messy and fiddly than stuffing the cat (plus I bet the cat would object to being stuffed, and that could get painful). Or coat the tree in anti-vandal, slippery paint. [helpful]

ChickensThinkYouCanGetStuffed · 10/12/2011 11:58

My pup keeps jumping in to the tree. I think I'd prefer the cat climbing it, tbh

TeaandHobnobs · 10/12/2011 11:58

Presents I think this will be familiar to you! Xmas Grin

she does make a good guard over the choc tree decs though, as the dc's won't touch the choc decs, in fear that the cat maybe hiding in the tree, every home needs one Xmas Grin

TeaandHobnobs Xmas Grin yes thats just what our lovely sodding cat does, although if we had a potted tree, she would see that as a bonus litter tray Xmas Hmm

i may have to get armed tonight with the nerf gun Xmas Wink although that could make her worse, shes a bit mad, not your friendly cuddly type cat, more the lay in wait and grab your ankles type of cat. Xmas Hmm

I love a rugby tackling type cat first thing in the morning. It really wakes you up.

Annpan88 · 10/12/2011 16:23

I am impressed with the thoughtfulness but it doesn't always go straight down, I run a bath and wonder where the cat wee smell is coming from...

bloody hell fire, we have a rescue cat, only been with us a month. we haven't got our tree yet so had no idea that any of this was likely. my dh likes to get a huge bloody one too, hadn't pictured our cat sitting up high on the bloody thing. am guessing it is bloody entertaining though but would give me a heart attack if she suddenly flew out of it. i have some lovely baubles too that i have collected over the years, hope she doesn't break them.........i also HATE dealing with her shit (dh won't go near) and her sick (fur balls bollocks), never really wanted a cat, still not sure but won't get rid of her :) all she does is eat, sleep & shit and is a bit moody imbetween, nice

Mandy2003 · 10/12/2011 18:09

Thanks for the tip Aldi, I have agreed, in a moment of foolishness, to look after a cat for 2 weeks over Christmas. I put the tree up today and realised that it could well be a cat magnet! Now, I will only have Christmas Eve to buy cat repellent, wonder what time Dyas's shut Xmas Grin

alistron1 · 10/12/2011 18:13

I had to take my lovely gold tree down 'cos our kitten (16 weeks) was obsessed with it. He was constantly half way up it. The 'real' tree doesn't interest him.

Mind you, he's so incredibly cute (and is my little baby!) that he gets away with murder Xmas Grin

PresentsRibbonsAndMerrySantas · 10/12/2011 18:18

Xmas Grin i would not be putting any nice baubles on your tree this year, as you don't know what she will do, my cat takes a leap of faith out when she is bored of climbing, one of these days she will get her legs tangled up in the lights and i will have to risk the claws to untangle her after i have pissed my self laughing it is funny watching her, but the tree is starting to look a bit sad. if you get a potted tree i would be covering up the top of the pot because i know my cat would be taking a dump in it Xmas Grin good luck

The first year we had a cat and a Christmas tree dp and the cat were at war, he used a spray water bottle to scare her away, it didn't work, he's liking the idea of the nerf gun!!

I put the tree up this afternoon and all 3 cats have just walked past it, I bet they are waiting till we are not looking to dive in it!!!!

Mandy2003 · 10/12/2011 18:31

Oh yes, DS has a Nerf gun!

WhoopsyLa · 10/12/2011 18:35

I adopted 2 Siamese brothers this year and was looking forward to them ravaging the tree...but guess what? They're far too cool for that sort of thing..Hmm all they do is periodially sit beneath it and look at me as if they're waiting for me to admire them for being picturesque!

They have sniffed it a couple of times but they always just give it a dirty look and walk away.

JingleBelleDameSansMerci · 10/12/2011 18:50

I have three cats... Two are darlings. Psycho cat, however, is pretty much resident in the tree. I have squirted her with some much water that I'd worry about putting the lights on if they were more powerful. Bloody bastard cat.

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 10/12/2011 18:57

We're going to tether our real tree (when we get it) to the wall as one of our cats loves climbing. She can climb up pebble dash!!!

Annpan88 Our other cat likes to wee down the shower plug hole if the litter tray isn't clean enough for her liking!
