as the bloody thing loves climbing my xmas tree so much, she gets up inside the tree and climbs, the tree is shaking, baubles falling off then when she is 3/4 of the way up she sits there looking at you with claws ready, just move one bauble and this black clawed paw shoots out Xmas Hmm

we used to have a worse cat than binka, she would not only attack the tree, but would lay in wait for the dog owners to come past the house with their tiny little dogs Xmas Grin and jump out on them all claws and hissing, bless her Xmas Hmm.

I agreed to pop round and feed a friend's two kittens one Christmas, coz she and her bloke were going ski-ing.

Day 1: kittens had dragged the Christmas tree halfway across the floor.

Days 2-7: kittens taken round my house, along with the very large TV that I decided the kittens needed for comfort reasons.

My friend never knew.

OntheBen, bloody good idea, i am going to tether mine to the bannister pole jobbies.

new cat and he's not sure what to make of it. Took me so long to get the bloody thing straight in it's stand there was no joy this year to putting it up. If it moves I'll be very very pissed off.

goes off to nurse pine sap lesions.

RandomMess · 10/12/2011 19:10

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 10/12/2011 19:16

you need to do problem solved Xmas Grin My cat won't touch the tree, she will however climb the clothes airer whilst full of clothes [sigh]

LittleMissHumbuggery · 10/12/2011 19:17

Mine didn't bother with the tree last year, but as soon as there were presents gathered beneath it they took to nesting on them. I assume they hoped the presents would hatch nto boxes of go cat. Freak animals!

mumdrivenmad · 10/12/2011 19:35

I have 'decorated' the base of my tree with copious amounts of holly, to stop my pesky felines from wrecking it, for a few years now. They don't go near it now. Xmas Wink

tally so far this week in our house tree vs cats, cats 4 victories tree 0 broken ornaments 5, and the little sods wait till i go out before launching an all out assault on said tree,

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 10/12/2011 20:38

Love the video Grin Have shared on FB!

Fluffycloudland77 · 10/12/2011 20:47

Paisly, I wouldnt use any glass ornaments, very easily broken and the cat might cut her paws.

TinyArmy · 10/12/2011 20:52

I tied all of the ornaments to the tree with wire and piled sandbags round the base of the tree. Took bloody hours to do up but the damn cats pulled the whole tree down four times. Had to buy all new shatterproof ornaments.

paisleyII · 10/12/2011 22:49

funny but dh has just said how much he is looking forward to gettingt the tree mainly this year now because of all the possible fun with the cat. he said we should just get the tree (real one as we always do) and not even bother to put anything on it, just stick it in the front room. i have enough non breakable decorations that we could stick on it :)

LyssaM · 11/12/2011 01:17

When we had three cats we used to have a toy that malevolent cat was scared of so that protected the tree from her. We hung the tree with oranges stuck with cloves which not only was posh and traditional but kept away evil cat. And we had made psycho cat scared of balloons so that he wouldn't go near the tree on account of balloons all around the foot of it.

To make a cat scared of balloons you are supposed to blow one up when a cat is watching and then pop it when they come and sniff. Repeat. Keep doing it until you are chasing the cat round with a balloon and a pin to pop the balloon near them. This makes them scared of balloons and is supposed to keep them away from anything guarded by balloons.

Psycho cat was scared of everything, so it worked for him. Malevolent cat was only scared of balloons if you were blowing them up, and just looked at you blankly if you popped them. Nov 5th evil cat will happily watch fireworks out of the window and is only scared of spray cream.

This year we only have evil cat, and according to the vet this summer was unlikely to even make Christmas. Currently she is looking good for getting through Christmas, but at 17 can't be bothered with attacking the decorations.

She will delegate that to DS who is five.
