It is vile. Seriously vile. I can see no "humour" in it at all.

OhDoAdmitMrsDeVere · 11/12/2011 17:42

The posh one doesnt tug at her dress in an ashamed way either.

The posh one doesnt have any 'unsightly' bulges

It is a big pile of sexist shite.
It is a big pile of classest shite
It is a big pile of 'its better to be slim and pretty and rich' shite.

Harvey Nicks so fecking nouveau anyhow.
It is vulgar to laugh and point at the lower classes.

boglach · 11/12/2011 17:42

Nothing vile about women having sex. but men don't face similar difficulties because they get to wear sensible clothes and still be considered attractive

MadameOvary · 11/12/2011 18:00

I watched it again and you dont even see the faces of three of them, which pissed me off. They ALL look pained and uncomfortable, which I know is meant to be the point but it's too stark a contrast with the woman at the end.

It struck a wrong note with me. And the ripped tights at the beginning dont help.

WibblyBibble · 11/12/2011 18:04

Er, the posh dress looks awful. It's like a bag. It wouldn't suit anyone who wasn't extremely skinny and boobless. I guess the message is supposed to be: "Wear our ridiculous overpriced shapeless tat and you won't get laid anyway so will save on night-bus/taxi fares?" Right? Don't see why the other women are ashamed though, they all look perfectly normal.

Caoimhe · 11/12/2011 18:08

Horrible ad - like others, my first thought when I saw the first woman was that she had been raped - the ripped tights and the look on her face just gave that impression. How dumb are Harvey Nicks putting out an advert which can be interpreted in such a grim way?

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 11/12/2011 18:10

The dazed and confused barefoot one looks even worse. It is far too redolent of rape to be 'funny'.

nasty

boglach · 11/12/2011 18:27

God i hadn't even got the rape imagery. Awful

SayYuleNowSayWhipTheReindeer · 11/12/2011 18:30

Haven't read the whole thread, but watched it twice. Second time with DH and I asked him what he thought afterwards and he immediately said the message was "wear clothes from HN and you won't look like a slut." He thinks it's awful.

I don't see the point of it at all. They could have made the same point without making such a distinction between class. And it's not just the dress that's so obviously different on the HN woman, it's her hair, her makeup, her demeanour, her obviously different demographic.

Just crass.

Miggsie · 11/12/2011 18:33

If they had subtitled it "aren't women's fashions shite these days?" it would have summed it up for me.

It's awful - I feel so sorry for the women, they look sad (and abused). Why should they be embarrassed to walk home in the morning? A badly-dressed man wouldn't be.

Caoimhe- how do you get 'rape imagery' from tights with holes in!!!!
You are one drama queen!!
In any case it's hardly normal for a rape victim to spend the night with her attacker is it?

OP posts:
spiderpig8 · 11/12/2011 18:48

..and have to laugh at MN slating others for being classist!!! A bit rich non?j

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 11/12/2011 18:58

And yes; "ripped tights and that look on her face" = she had been raped?

WTF? We still have a long way to go. Sad

QueenCess · 11/12/2011 18:59

I don't understand the whole idea of shame for being a sexual woman.

I do however think a brand that peddles this misogynistic shite should feel ashamed.

FuckingWonderwoman · 11/12/2011 19:00

I am the one stuffing her face with some cheap and unpleasant food (a kebab?) in the bus shelter. Xmas GrinXmas GrinXmas Grin

I remember coming home on the bus from Reading one morning in a toga. Because I hadn't stayed at Jane's after all, which is where my clothes were...Xmas Blush

LEttletownofBOFlehem · 11/12/2011 19:01

Do we really need to post about rape myths AGAIN? It's fucking depressing how stupid...oh, never mind.
