to be horrified that The Wright Stuff show mocked a child's murder?

Recently the body of a 16 year old boy was found in the Hebrides. He was murdered. First murder there in 40 years. The only thing really said about it on the show was a joke involving Taggart.

I am horrified! This is a child. Murdered :( How is it a joke? Surely an apology is needed? I have complained to Ofcom.

a lot of angry comments on the show's own website and quite justifiably. complaint to ofcom is the way to go.

dizzy60 · 06/12/2011 23:48

I watched it and i was gobsmacked - awful really awful.

EdithWeston · 06/12/2011 23:52

Here is a link to where you can submit complaints on line to OFCOM stakeholders.ofcom.org.uk/tell-us/specific-programme-epg

MeltedAdventCalendarChocolates · 06/12/2011 23:54

Thank you Eidith, should have put that in my OP.

Gosh, where are all the Matthew Wright-lovers now ?

The last time I slagged that show off, I was being silly

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 00:12

....or so I was told

WorraLiberty · 07/12/2011 00:14

That's well out of order OP Sad

NinkyNonker · 07/12/2011 08:09

Yanbu. That has made me really sad actually, hormonally picturing if dd was murdered then some pillock made a joke about it on tv, it would make her seem worthless. I'm glad so many people have complained.

fergoose · 07/12/2011 09:24

I agree it was disgusting. I have complained to Ofcom and joined the facebook group. As someone who has lived on the islands I was already following this story, and for them to laugh about it quite frankly made me feel ill.

I was hoping there may be an apology on the programme this morning, but nothing has been said.

auntmargaret · 07/12/2011 09:32

I'm a big fan of The Wright Stuff and normally really enjoy the show but I was very shocked at how they handled this story, it was in very poor taste.

fergoose · 07/12/2011 10:21

Oh he has just apologised!

NinkyNonker · 07/12/2011 10:22

But even thinking it was appropriate is so shitty.

WorraLiberty · 07/12/2011 10:23

Call than an apology? Hmm

fergoose · 07/12/2011 10:27

no you are right - it was a rushed garbled last minute panic I reckon.

I hope OFCOM do take it further.

and here is a youtube link if you want to watch it again

WorraLiberty · 07/12/2011 10:43

His 'apology' was words to the effect of "I apologise if anyone was offended, but you know me, I've been touched by death too many times myself to want to offend anyone"

Then he said anyone campaigning to have him reported to OFCOM should "grow up".

SparklyCloud · 07/12/2011 10:56

This is terrible. Have complained to ofcom using the link.
if the family see this, how would they feel? Unbelievable.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 13:31

Matthew Wright is a twat

That apology is about as good as Jeremy Clarkson's who complained that people "bursting themselves" on railway tracks are constantly delaying him and his fucking massive ego

Why are these people even on tv ? How do they earn their inflated wages ? Idiotic comments like that just show how far up their own arse these ego-driven neanderthals have really crawled.

OhBuggerandArse · 07/12/2011 13:34

Terrible apology...

Give 'em enough rope...

crypes · 07/12/2011 14:31

I watched it about a month ago and was amazed how much he trivialised every subject and had no time to seriously discuss any thing, so why churn out such dross if theres hardly any time to do it. They started laughing at things that go wrong at funerals, by that time i had enough.

Nancy66 · 07/12/2011 14:35

He's not mocking the boy though is he? or the family - he's obviously dis-interested in the story but that's all....

QuintessentiallyFestive · 07/12/2011 14:36

that is sickening.
