to be horrified that The Wright Stuff show mocked a child's murder?

Recently the body of a 16 year old boy was found in the Hebrides. He was murdered. First murder there in 40 years. The only thing really said about it on the show was a joke involving Taggart.

I am horrified! This is a child. Murdered :( How is it a joke? Surely an apology is needed? I have complained to Ofcom.

Nancy did you actually watch it? He was mocking the boy's murder, and generally taking the piss out of Scottish people in the islands - if he wasn't mocking i don't know what he was doing.

Nancy66 · 07/12/2011 14:41

I did watch it - he's doing a crap impression of Taggart.
Ill-advised, yes, but it's not a personal attack on the boy or his family

fergoose · 07/12/2011 14:42

well i am sorry I totally disagree with you - the behaviour and the comments on the show were disgusting and took my breath away.

i hope you are never on the receiving end of comments like that about one of your loved ones

wahwahwah · 07/12/2011 14:45

I always hate it when they say 'I apologise IF anyone was offended...'. IF?

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 14:45

there is always a handmaiden or two to stick up for these self-entitled, arrogant, sexist men

just as well, really

they make a career out of their ignorance

Nancy66 · 07/12/2011 14:45

...were there other comments other than that clip of them discussing the news story?

fergoose · 07/12/2011 14:52

Nancy have you ever been to the Scottish islands - do you have no idea how much a crime and a loss of a child can affect a small community. Indeed how much it would affect any community which is close knit regardless of the postcode. Do you have any idea what it is like as a Scottish person being sneered and laughed at as they were on yesterday's show.

I actually cannot formulate a reply, so angry am I. And you think their jokes were OK and acceptable and that nobody should be upset by it? Words really do fail me.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 14:55

fergoose plase rest assured that not everyone shares such narrowminded and bigoted viewpoints

Nancy66 · 07/12/2011 14:55

I would imagine the loss of a child affects people no matter what the size of their community...

I said his words were ill-advised

fergoose · 07/12/2011 14:59

Thank you Anyfucker

Nancy - I am stepping away from this thread to have a cry for a boy, his family and their community - your comments, I can't even be bothered to comment on them.

wahwahwah · 07/12/2011 15:02

I am sure he wouldn't have asked of Inspector Morse was investigating if it was in Oxford.

I would have thought any comment would have been around how little crime there is up there (there was something onthe radio recently about lack of need for police there) and how such a serious crime would knock everyone for six. Not a cheap (and very old) reference to a tv character.

TooMuchCaffeine · 07/12/2011 15:05

OMG just followed the You Tube link. That is really insensitive Shock. He has gone a tad too far this time!

wahwahwah · 07/12/2011 15:06

Did the audience laugh or clap?

MeltedAdventCalendarChocolates · 07/12/2011 15:13

Taggart isn't even based up in the islands is it? Pretty sure it's not!

They referred to the boy's murder as the longest running Taggart episode. Actually I am pretty sure it was a violent end to a pretty SHORT and already troubled life... Ill advised? It has just happened! It was a horrific thing to say!

MeltedAdventCalendarChocolates · 07/12/2011 15:15

Yes a few laughs can be heard. Sick.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 15:28

...probably a few nervous titters from the camera crew

although there must be people who share this same SOH or the likes of MW and JC would be out of a job Xmas Confused

Pootles2010 · 07/12/2011 15:29

I would imagine it would affect small community more, as everyone on the island would know him, and his family. When there's not many of you you're much closer surely?

wahwahwah · 07/12/2011 15:55

My sister lives in a fairly large town on the mainland and lkeaves her house and car doors unlocked, so I can only imagine how remove from crime and suspicion it must be on the islands.

ThoseArentSpiritFingers · 07/12/2011 16:03

being from the community, and knew Liam, albeit not closely, I am in shock about these crass commnts made by an up-himself twat. it is a shocking thing to happen, in any circumstance, but exacerbated by the fact that everyone knows eachother, so has some sort of connection or interaction with the poor boy, never mind the rarity of an event like this in the island.

For this idiot to treat it all like a big joke, and highlighting the rarity of a murder in the islands as something funny rather than shocking and makes this event even more heartbreaking, for everyone.

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 16:06

I am very sorry this terrible thing happened, RAIMA

AnyFuckerForAMincePie · 07/12/2011 16:07

....and for the boy's family, I have no words of comfort Sad

MW, and others of his ilk, need to learn some humility

fergoose · 07/12/2011 16:44

Riding I am so sorry - as if the crime and grieving isn't enough without this added upset. The more I read about it the angrier and more upset I feel - I am glad that the majority of people agree MW was totally wrong, it is just a shame a tinny minority cannot see the reason for the upset.

Wahwah - you are right, when I lived on the islands I never locked the door, and left the car with the keys in - never gave it a thought.

mrsscoob · 07/12/2011 17:02

have reported too, that was so insensitive and horrible

moaninlisa · 07/12/2011 17:22

Matthew Wright is a tube there was another insensitive comment yesterday re Maddie McCann - but thats day time tv for you.

It's slop.

Ill in bed the only reason I saw it.

MeltedAdventCalendarChocolates · 07/12/2011 18:55

Riding I am very sorry. I know people who live on the island and know that the island is in shock. Apparently the show is being axed at the end of the year anyway. Good job too.
