I LOVE Gareth Malone and love choirs and I think it's great how he has put it all together but I don't like the song at all.
I feel unreasonable as I am being made to feel ( by constant press/ radio coverage) that I should love it.
I don't even like it.
Anyone else or just me?

It's the very last bit that I have to switch off each time but apart from that I prefer it to X Factor shite

grovel · 06/12/2011 18:46

I'm with you in all respects.

Well done, Gareth.
Well done, choir.
Singing is great.
The song is dire (but well motivated).

Sparklingbaubles · 06/12/2011 18:49

It is for a really great cause.

KittyFane · 06/12/2011 18:50

grovel Thank you. Not just me then!

I like the idea very much, and the singing. Love Gareth. Take or leave the tune.
I don't like the 'prince of peace' line. I don't know if it's the Jesus connection or the peace element - it just makes me clench a bit.

However, I'm all for Gareth and his jumper and the wives getting to number one with the song.

KittyFane · 06/12/2011 18:51

Sparkling still hate it. Blush

I love the song.

Not just for the lyrics or the sentiment behind it but the actual song too.

Esta3GG · 06/12/2011 18:53

I think the whole exercise is as cynical and exploitative as Cowell's crap.
And the song is dire. A couple of weeks ago I heard the "first cut" - awful caterwauling. They have given it some serious tweaking and it is still awful.

HappyCamel · 06/12/2011 18:53

It's called marketing. Respect your own opinion, you are not a sheep!

purplehonesty · 06/12/2011 18:54

Like the idea and hope they are No1 but yes the song sucks. I added them on Facebook from a link but now I keep getting about ten updates a day and I can't figure out how to unlike them!! v annoying

KittyFane · 06/12/2011 18:56

Shock @ Esta!
I also don't believe the 'it just happened and the press found out and now it's all gone crazy' stuff (cynical)

LadyBeagleBaublesAndBells · 06/12/2011 18:56

I'm another who does't like the song.

handsomeharry · 06/12/2011 18:57

Esta I would be genuinely interested to know why you think that - about the exploitative stuff. I can be terribly naive and I do have a tendency to 'accept' things.

I am also quite sentimental too so I would be interested to read why you think that.

hellhasnofury · 06/12/2011 18:59

I think it's a worthy cause and I hope it generates lots of money but I don't like the song either.

Thingumy · 06/12/2011 19:00

I can't stand it either.Meh.

Sparklingbaubles · 06/12/2011 19:01

Did any of you watch the programmes? It didn't just 'happen'.

AitchTwoOHoHoHo · 06/12/2011 19:02

i know what you mean about the prince of peace line, but actually i find it very affecting because clearly they have to think that their husbands are on the side of good or else where would their consciences be? what makes that imo particularly interesting is that there will be wives working for 'the enemy' who think of their husbands similarly. so having first made an Hmm face at it i now really like it.

grovel · 06/12/2011 19:04

I do like the soloist in the choir despite her dodgy tattoo. Interesting back story, nice voice.

Nancy66 · 06/12/2011 19:04

I'm with you. Loved the programme, loved GM, loved the women.....hate the song.

Thingumy · 06/12/2011 19:04

I agree with the 'awful caterwauling' from what snippet I saw of the programme.I then switched over.

MabelLucyAttwell · 06/12/2011 19:06

Didn't see the programme and don't know what the choir looks like and don't know what they sound like so cannot give an opinion.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 06/12/2011 19:08

Well that's very helpful Mabel Grin See MNHQ? Wouldn't get that with a Like Button Wink

The programme made me cry. But then everything makes me cry.

KittyFane · 06/12/2011 19:08

sparking I know it didn't just happen, that's my point.
Then why the 'amazement' in the press that it is so popular?
It has been planned and marketed to ensure that it is overwhelmingly popular.

OP posts:
Sparklingbaubles · 06/12/2011 19:10

Are the press amazed then? Confused

KittyFane · 06/12/2011 19:10

...despite the song being rubbish not to my taste.
