Orgasm during childbirth?

WorraLiberty · 05/12/2011 10:31

Am I being unreasonable to think this is possibly the last thing on the mind of any sane woman while she's trying to push a melon out of a mouse hole? Xmas Shock

Apparently 22% of the Mums she studied, orgasmed during childbirth....though she didn't say how many she actually studied.

My mind is truly boggled Xmas Grin

Has anyone watched the "orgasmic birth" film?

It is amazing. A friend had it as part of her doula training and it shows a number of woman having orgasms whilst in labour. It feels a bit weird watching it but it is very eye opening.

I was very envious of the quite stunning woman who rocked her way to orgasm in the birthing pool on her deck and was later filmed with her tiny few day old baby looking so beatfic it made me want to cry .

DS is only 10 weeks and I can't really remember the sensations/feeling at the moment he slid out. Possibly because I only pushed 6 times, but more likely cos I was concentrating so hard on pushing at the right time.

In fact where I gave birth they get you to push the top half of the baby out then reach down and pull the rest out yourself. I had to be yelled at several times to do that as I was oblivious! (I blame it on the fact they weren't speaking English and my bilingual brain had switched off Grin)

Dunno if I could detatch myself enough from the hospital environment/DH + 2 midwives to orgasm though - so wouldn't be able to enjoy it!

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 05/12/2011 13:10

GlueSticks - I didn't feel assualted at all! I just figured it must be a way to stimulate oxytocin production. Didn't even question it.

Haven't mentioned it to many people though as I'm not sure how common the practise is!

GlueSticksEverywhere · 05/12/2011 13:21

BeautifulBlondePineapple Er I don't think it is common at all! You midwife isn't allowed to sexually stimulate you! Shock

CointreauVersial · 05/12/2011 13:28

I have to confess, with DD2 it certainly felt similar, after the head had gone through and everything else whooshed out. I remember thinking "Oooo!". Blush

If it doesn't hurt when the head comes out the you must have a bigger "area"! That's just a fact.

GruffalowsMammy · 05/12/2011 13:45

The only birth book I read was orgasmic birth. It wasn't Orgasmic but it was lovely esp as he came out, absolutely the best day/ experience of my life.

The first poo however was not so good :)

babyhammock · 05/12/2011 14:08

Really enjoying this thread.
My experience was 4 hours of extreme agony (home birth, no pain relief)
If there's next time I will be taking ALL of this on board and having a word with the midwife Grin

EdlessAllenPoe · 05/12/2011 14:16

glue the stitches didn't hurt either (i didn't even feel the coldness of the local anaesthetic gel). there was so much going on in my nethers hormones wise at the time ..it was all very overwhelming.- if someone is performing cross-stitch on your genitalia and you can't feel it, it's because your body is flooded with pain relief of some kind and not because your flange could double as an air hangar. thus it was with crowning.

stung like buggery the next day.

piprobincomesbobbobbobbinalong · 05/12/2011 14:20

Am I very odd to find the idea of orgasming during childbirh more embarrassing than doing a poo in front of the assembled MWs and Drs.

GlueSticksEverywhere · 05/12/2011 14:28

piprobincomesbobbobbobbinalong No that's not odd!!!!

FlamingoBingo · 05/12/2011 14:30

Gluesticks -that's not true. Pain is about way more tahn just anatomy!

GlueSticksEverywhere · 05/12/2011 14:48

And something big fitting through a small hole with hurt more then when it fits through a big hole!

AmberLeaf · 05/12/2011 14:56

Gluesticks, they are all small holes in relation to a babies head size!

Its more to do with elasticity.

FlamingoBingo · 05/12/2011 15:04

Not necessarily, Gluesticks. An identical fracture will cause one person way more pain than it would in another.

megapixels · 05/12/2011 15:21

Interesting thread, although I really can't get my head around orgasming during childbirth. I am Shock at the midwife rubbing incident though, surely that can't be allowed? Xmas Angry

TheScaryJessie · 05/12/2011 15:27

Ring of fire? That's an understatement, surely? It hurt much more than that!

I thought I was being ripped into tiny little pieces!

scarletforya · 05/12/2011 15:28

What that midwide did was way out of order. I would have knocked the bitch out complained and made sure she was struck off. Shock Sexual assault during childbirth!!! Outrageous.

megapixels · 05/12/2011 15:32

I would have done the same scarlet. What a horrible violation.

TheScaryJessie · 05/12/2011 15:34

Oh, come on, posters above me...

Yeah, labouring women are really good at initiating and winning physical fights...

megapixels · 05/12/2011 15:35

Grin ScaryJessie. I didn't mean the struck out bits.

PsecretPsanta · 05/12/2011 15:36

The universe owes me an orgasm. Angry

TheScaryJessie · 05/12/2011 15:38

Good. 'Cos, otherwise, I am dead jel, an' all. I didn't have a labour like that. I sat on a bed, silently enduring, while feeling utterly exhausted and terrified.

scarletforya · 05/12/2011 15:39

What I mean is I would have felt violated definitely. And angry.
