Orgasm during childbirth?

WorraLiberty · 05/12/2011 10:31

Am I being unreasonable to think this is possibly the last thing on the mind of any sane woman while she's trying to push a melon out of a mouse hole? Xmas Shock

Apparently 22% of the Mums she studied, orgasmed during childbirth....though she didn't say how many she actually studied.

My mind is truly boggled Xmas Grin

I suppose that makes sense aldiwhore ....the body's own pain relief and all that.

I'm still laughing at the thought of the 22% giving birth to a sex toy Xmas Grin

at least in childbirth, there is no chance of your Husband doing it first, and thus totally spoiling it for you

Yeah that would be a bit surreal if he sat in the corner having a wank Xmas Grin

I guess that the only other link is that you feel fucked after both sex and childbirth.

VikingLady · 05/12/2011 10:58

Can I order an orgasmic birth, please? Expecting dc1 in March, would like to add this to my birth plan.

Would love to write it in the birth plan, just to see the midwives' faces... Grin

Thanks for the advice, though Aldiwhore - seriously. As I'm told you get left a alone a lot in labour, I think I'll try it then... It's got to be worth a go!

WorraLiberty · 05/12/2011 11:00

Lol at the birth plan Xmas Grin

If I had another I'd be wanking from the beginning of labour onwards... lol In my experience, it was when baby was crowning... that awful stinging. Suddenly felt a lot better.

VikingLady · 05/12/2011 11:01

The hypnobirthing advice I've had suggested something to take your mind off it, to help manage the pain. I reckon dh having a crafty wank in the corner of the delivery room would DEFINITELY distract me, WorraLiberty.

WorraLiberty · 05/12/2011 11:03

Yep, I'm sure that would have taken my mind off the pain Viking Shock

Should I mention wanking on my birth plan or is it the sort of thing the mw will just let you go with...?

Restrainedrabbit · 05/12/2011 11:13

I've had all three of mine at home so nice relaxed conditions. I can genuinely say that it wasn't that bad and when the head comes out I never felt the ring of fire just a strange feeling of relief, I guess a bit like when you trying to achieve an orgasm. I can see that with the right...errr.... stimulation orgasm would be possible to achieve. Would make sense that the clitoris could be used as an alternative form of pain relief!

msbaublestwinkle · 05/12/2011 11:15

I tend to describe DD2's birth as pain-free, and I did enjoy the contractions both times (DD1's birth was pain free after my waters broke, but hurt before that.) However, I wouldn't describe it as orgasmic, more a feeling of being a bit high (no pain relief by the way!), loved up with the world and very happy to be about to have a baby. There was a 'woosh' of relief when she was born, I can see how that might feel orgasmic for some women, but I felt more 'oh wow, I just had a baby!'.

nativitywreck · 05/12/2011 11:16

Ok, I dare all of you who are giving birth soon: Tell the midwife you will be having a fiddle as part of your birth plan.
And then come back on and tell us if it works or if aldiwhore is a freak
Grin

MillyR · 05/12/2011 11:21

Maybe I'm doing either childbirth or orgasms wrong. But surely childbirth goes on for hours while an orgasm lasts under a minute. So how is an orgasm going to provide any kind of adequate pain relief?

KinkyDoritoWithFairyLightsOn · 05/12/2011 11:37

Gah. Apparently I've missed out again with my two C-sections Xmas Envy.

GwendolineMaryLacedwithBrandy · 05/12/2011 11:41

Although having said that, I'm not sure I can actually reach anything of use at the moment... I wonder if DH would step up? Xmas Hmm

BeautifulBlondePineapple · 05/12/2011 12:00

Near the end of my labour with DC2, the midwive rubbed my clitoris between contractions & pushing and again before the placenta came out. I remember thinking "what the hell...?!!!" but I didn't ask her about it (could hardly talk). Didn't have an orgasm, but I'm sure it helped. Best birth of the 3 that's for sure!

HardCheese · 05/12/2011 12:16

Besides various references in birth books (Ina May Gaskin comes to mind) I certainly know people who've said they had an orgasm at some point during birth. I'm pregnant with my first child, so have no birth experience to compare it with, but to be honest it doesn't sound any odder to me than the clearly huge difference in terms of pain/painlessness between birth experiences as recounted on here or by friends. Some people are clearly in agony and desperately need pain relief, some people find it all totally pain-free and both lots can get a bit puzzled with one another. Not sure orgasming is any stranger than how different people experience birth differently...?

GlueSticksEverywhere · 05/12/2011 12:19

BeautifulBlondePineapple OMG! Did you not even slightly feel as though you were being sexually assulted?

nativitywreck · 05/12/2011 12:28

I am still trying to work out how the baby's head coming out doesn't hurt for some people?!
For me it was the vaginal equivalent of having a wisdom tooth extracted-same gut churning streeetching, same wrenching feeling, same "oh my Fucking God Nooooo!" thoughts.

Maybe my fanjo is not as large as some peoples
Although It probably is now..

VFVF · 05/12/2011 12:42

Oooh how lovely

I now look forward to DC2's birth in March Grin

It does help with period pains in my experience [bush] so stands to reason it would help with contractions - would be far too shy to try in front of a midwife though!

TheChristmasCountessOlenska · 05/12/2011 12:52

ha ha Blush not bush!

MardyArsedMidlander · 05/12/2011 12:57

OMG did the midwife really do THAT? I can see that it might be pain relief- but imagine a male midwife or doctor explaining that!
