Here is the video of it happening.

Do you think the police should respond?

If she was on drugs or that drunk whilst in charge of a young child then she definitely needs investigating to ensure that little boy is kept safe.

If she is suffering from mental health issues leading to her tirade then she needs investigating to ensure her little boy is kept safe.

If she in doing this without the influence of drink and drugs, and whilst suffering from mental health issues - well she is obviously a really nasty piece of work and again she needs investigating to ensure the little boy is kept safe.

It doesn't matter whilch way you look at it, she is supposed to be responsible for the well being of a young child. At that time she was not doing a good job of that in any sense of the word.

claig · 29/11/2011 19:38

yes, I have seen that. Another nasty, racist tirade.

sozzledchops · 29/11/2011 20:04

Oh she has a bit of a fan base if Resistance Britain is anything to go by, they think she is a hero. The mind boggles.

I doubt her child will be taken off her, think of all the other kids out there who remain with their families under really dire circumstances.

Dillydaydreaming · 29/11/2011 21:09

Okay so obviously mentally I'll judging by reports I've read. Let's hope she gets the treatment and support she needs then. I can accept people could behave out of character if they are unwell. If she has help then her child will ultimately benefit as well.

claig · 29/11/2011 21:41

Dilly, have you got any links to those reports?

splashymcsplash · 29/11/2011 22:21

Maypole while that woman is obviously behaving viley in that video (and appears to be completely sober wtf?) I do admire people's reactions to her. They didn't validate her aggressive tirade without a response, and just made it clear they didn't take her seriously.. I'm proud to be a Londoner :)

claig · 29/11/2011 22:31

Good article on the twiitermob's reaction to this.

'According to rumours in the Croydon area, the woman in question was ?going through a breakdown? when the footage was filmed. She certainly appears unwell, or at least drunk, in the video. But that won?t stop the Twittermob from letting rip; they never let anything as insignificant as facts or context get in the way of their mass screech for the hanging, drawing and quartering of a witch. At a time when moral certainties are few and far between, the useful thing about Twitch Hunts is that they provide people with a moment of extreme moralistic clarity, where they can gang together and demonstrate their ?liberal? credentials by tweeting: ?I HATE HER.?

'it was the virtual equivalent of children chasing the local crazy lady through the streets and shouting ?Nutter!? or ?Cow!?.'

The Daily Mail reports that

'Emma West remanded in custody 'for her own safety''

claig · 29/11/2011 22:37

' One Twitterer tweeted at Kelly Hollingsworth, the woman who recorded the video, ?If I was on that tram with that racist woman, I?d have thrown her off the tram while in motion, then fostered her child?. Hollingsworth responded: ?LOL we all could see she weren?t worth it.? If only the rest of Twitter had adopted that kind of response.'

TwoIfBySea · 29/11/2011 22:50

Be careful when saying she needs re education though, that is stepping in to dangerous territory.

Better that she receives help and begins to understand why she feels this way than to be re-educated as though we are some kind of 1984-style regime.

claig · 29/11/2011 22:56

The reaction of so many people on twitter to her and people calling for the removal of her child is very dangerous. It shows the illiberalism behind liberalism. While today they are being 'liberal' and calling for her child to be removed, tomorrow they will be turned as a herd in an even more illiberal direction.

moorlandmousie · 29/11/2011 23:01

Yes, the hatred is very illiberal. It reminds me of X Factor; like everything's reality TV now. (And indeed it is.)

claig · 29/11/2011 23:06

Very good point. It is X Factor like. The danger with it is that masses of people can easily be manipulated and whipped up into a frenzy by people who orchestrate events and spectacles, similar to how producers of TV shows can easily manipulate their audience.

coldwed · 30/11/2011 02:34

I feel sorry for all the little black kids in that tram having to listen to that ugly shit head. You have the lowest of the low actually thinking that they're better than blacks? fuck off and die a slow death.

dancingmustard · 30/11/2011 02:36

Probably a bit harsh there coldwed.

Hmm

Vile woman. Abhorrent views. Awful for everyone in the receiving end. Awful for her poor child.

Am also ashamed of the people saying the content of her tirade wasn't so bad, but the swearing was unforgivable. As a white person, I do not wish to be associated with such heartless views.

I am really surprised at the self-absorption on is thread. Point above re the swearing being worse than the racist abuse, a case in point.

But also the wish for people's righteous indignation to a one-off event, which you will forget about once it's out of the news, to take precedence over a small boy.

We have no idea - yet - about this woman. We have seen a snapshot of her life and we yet have judged and condemned her and her child as if we are in receipt of the full facts.

But no, as long as Random Poster X gets their moment of satisfaction that a - what? 2 or 3 year old child - who may or may not have an unhappy life - gets removed from the only mother he knows, that's the best possible outcome from all of this.

A lot of people needing to tone down the hysteria and get a bit of a grip.

moorlandmousie · 30/11/2011 07:43

I haven't seen anyone say the swearing was worse than the racism; or even that it's as bad.

Is anyone saying that? I've read nothing to that effect on this thread - where is that notion coming from? Clearly if anyone is saying that, it's bonkers.

destinationzero · 30/11/2011 09:55

No I don't think she should be arrested, she needs help of some sort as that is not normal behaviour.
what is just as bad though is the vicious attacks by the ugly face of liberal Britian, the people on twitter and other sites wanting her dead shoud be reported and investigated themselves, i believe this is happening on twitter, too many violent people hide behind their liberal credentials and that has to stop. I hope the internet gets its act together quickly to target these people.

AbbyAbsinthe · 30/11/2011 12:33

Blimey coldwed.... have you ever heard the phrase 'do as you would be done by'? Whilst I also agree that this woman is a vile excuse for a human being, clearly on crack or similar, and was utterly shocked at her tirade... I think dancing on her grave may be a little harsh Hmm

architien · 30/11/2011 12:45

She certainly looked ill to me. Still it made me cry, for her poor little boy to see such shameful abuse and for that brave lady who appears to me to be expecting who filmed it.

I very much hope that she gets herself well again, that she is sorry and learns from it. God I fear for her beautiful boy.

duchesse · 30/11/2011 22:07

Extremely ugly woman, inside and out, expressing almost certainly drug-fuelled views. Just nasty. Makes me want to emigrate, but that would mean leaving the country to people like her.

Feenie · 30/11/2011 22:13

Somebody started a thread today about this - the girl is married to a friend of hers, and is mentally ill and certainly on medication.
