To think this woman is putting her child in a very dangerous position with her racist rantings on public transport?

That poor boy...

maypole1 · 28/11/2011 11:56

MmeLindor so in other words as it always been if your not White yu get a rough ride being a black Brit helps you a little but the don't know were your from until you open your mouth

MmeLindor. · 28/11/2011 11:58

yes, Maypole. Pretty much.

Friends from former East have found it difficult to get jobs and apartments. Colleague of DH - his wife was Russian and incredibly intelligent, studied architecture. You should have heard the way she was treated, as if she were thick as pig shit, just because she had an accent.

I guess it is the same everywhere.

Heleninahandcart · 28/11/2011 11:59

OP you have posted a video of someone being racist and abusive. It is vile to watch, vile to hear and contains the hurtful words that I never thought I would ever have to hear again.

You are apparently concerned about her child, fine. Do you not also see the pain on the boy behind her as she spouts her hate? People on the bus are clearly upset. Would you find it acceptable to post a video of any other form of abuse?

Thought so.

WorraLiberty · 28/11/2011 12:01

Helen what exactly does 'thought so' mean?

You at least need to give the OP an opportunity to reply before 'thinking' anything surely? Confused

squeakytoy · 28/11/2011 12:03

Helena, the op is not supporting the womans views, so why are you having a go at her?

I am sure we all think it is vile to watch and hear, but surely better than pushing it under the carpet and pretending it doesnt happen, is to watch it and realise that there are still problems with racism in this country.

takingbackmonday · 28/11/2011 12:04

Helen - surely the OP is bringing attention to the existence of such vile racism in society and expressing concern for the child?

I would have thought that suppressing incidents like this would be like burying heads in the sand and tacitly accepting it?

takingbackmonday · 28/11/2011 12:05

X-post squeaky

TartyMcFarty · 28/11/2011 12:06

Yes, I would share shocking instances of other types of verbal abuse, and as I've stated in the thread title that the subject is a 'racist rant', you have the opportunity to avoid it if you wish. If you honestly never have to hear this stuff you lead a very sheltered life.

My abhorrence of the views expressed are implicit in my OP.

Here here on other threads in the past mums netters have gone so far as to say racism dose not exist only in the minds of some militant black people or its not thats bad

This really gose to show being in a mixed couple I know it very well people don't know oh is married to black women he has heard all sorts

StaceymAloneForver · 28/11/2011 12:07

i've never seen anything like this in croydon and i visit there frequently (live about 20 mins away) I also don't know anybody who thinks like this.

Is this honestly an opinion held by many.

I once walked down croydon high street with a friend while quite drunk and she said at the top of her voice 'Where are all the white people?' I hadn't noticed any such thing, i don't think she was trying to be racist, I walked away and haven't seen her since!

People shouldn't be allowed to think this is ok!

That poor kid!

GypsyMoth · 28/11/2011 12:08

Interesting it was 2 women who confronted her

I like to think I would have had the nerve to do the same. Wonder how it ended.

MmeLindor. · 28/11/2011 12:09

Helena
What are you on about?

I come from a small town in mid Wales but have moved away (not far). Sad to say that racist language and attitudes are commonplace. I recently challenged an old acquaintance for using the word 'paki' in a Facebook status update recently, and I was the only person in a long thread of responses to voice my disgust. In response he admitted he 'probably was being racist', but 'they' get on his nerves. It goes without saying that I deleted him and never want to see him again, but unfortunately his views are not uncommon. The video I've linked to here clearly wasn't filmed off the beaten track, which is all the more worrying.

stacey, If you have never seen this, then you have been fortunate. I think public transport does tend to bring out the worst in a lot of people, as they think they have a captive audience who will listen to them.

I used to work in central Croydon, travelling on the train to Wimbledon, and then the tram from Wimbledon to Croydon, and pretty much every day there was some sort of anti-social incident on the journey. It was bloody awful and I couldnt wait to finish the contract.

There are a lot of racial and social problems in Croydon and a few of its surrounding areas.

Heleninahandcart · 28/11/2011 12:15

I am not saying that the OP is supporting the woman's views. It is about posting a video of abuse. Had it been an article about the incident, it would be less direct. The video means we watch the abuse as it is happening and I am questioning why this is acceptable.

SardineQueen · 28/11/2011 12:16

Didn't watch the whole thing but I don't think she's drunk. She's possibly on something though that weird thing she keeps doing with her mouth.

TartyMcFarty · 28/11/2011 12:17

I did apologise early on Helena, for not stating that it was a link to a video. I just didn't think about it, but the first reply pointed it out. I thought that would cover it, TBH. Sorry if it caught you off guard.

OP posts:
SardineQueen · 28/11/2011 12:17

Oh and I have seen a few rants on buses, some people who are obviously mentally ill, some people who seem to be just horrible, some maybe a combination of both...

Doesn't happen very often though.

oldenglishspangles · 28/11/2011 12:20

I felt really sorry for all the decent people on that tram that had to listen to that. But I felt even more sorry for the young boy behind her who was clearly distraught.

WorraLiberty · 28/11/2011 12:21

Helen I don't know about you but no-one forced me to click on the link and it does state in the thread title what it's about Hmm

JeremyVile · 28/11/2011 12:24

The onyl people who ahve wayched this video are those who have CHOSEN to watch the video.

There could have been more explicit warning in th OP, but really how much warning do you need? more than the title containing the words 'racist rant', more than the fact that you can see a Youtube page opening up? And if you somehow get to that point without an inkling of what you are about to see then it is clear within about 2 seconds.

Memoo · 28/11/2011 12:26

I can't view it on my shite phone.

How does it conclude? Does anyone get her to stop?

oldenglishspangles · 28/11/2011 12:27

Please lets not get side tracked from the issues ladies. The issue here is that woman and her vile behaviour....
