YABU... satsumas have pips. Clementines don't. Pips might = posh in the military but in fruity terms they are social death.

YouCantTeuchThis · 24/11/2011 15:45

erm...well they are all mandarins, but you know that, right?

Satsuma, clementine and tangerine are the different types.

Not sure which type is more 'posh'... Hmm

headfairy · 24/11/2011 15:46

ds calls every small citrus fruit a satsuma... he must be super posh. E's done me proud he 'as

complexnumber · 24/11/2011 15:47

I'm with YCTT, I know a satsuma when I peel it.

Almostfifty · 24/11/2011 15:47

Satsumas are the only edible ones IMO.

WhereMyMilk · 24/11/2011 15:48

We call them baby oranges-must be real scutters :o

Sossiges · 24/11/2011 15:49

Aren't satsumas those horrible squishy ones with the loose skin? Yick. IMO mandarin or clementine much posher.

SeeLyon · 24/11/2011 15:51

i see them as all SMall Round Orang Things

btu call them satsumas when eating them, say at a point to point for eg

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 24/11/2011 15:51

Well I wouldn't call a lime a satsuma.

Cybbo · 24/11/2011 15:54

Satsumas are sweeter

Clementines can be tangy

Tangerines are usually dry and mealy

I dont hold no panderin to a manderin

complexnumber · 24/11/2011 15:55

We call them baby oranges-must be real scutters Wheremymilk

Yes you probably are, but fortunately you have realised in time, all you need to do to remedy this unfortunate affliction is to make sure to do all future shopping at Waitrose and insist upon being directed to 'real' satsumas, and not those silly little baby orange things.

SeeLyon · 24/11/2011 15:56

i like to put them on the end of mu thumb and pretend i have a growth.

I have to peel 30 of the bastards for reception snack time

Amd dont suggest they peel their own. We ahve 15 minutes, not the rest of the day

SeeLyon · 24/11/2011 15:58

caould you not differentiate by class
children of A1s do their own
B1s pay someone to do them
C2s bin them and buy chips?

OP posts:
redyam · 24/11/2011 15:58

They aren't posh. Try saying them in a yorkshire accent. "alright love, Gor any satsuuumas?"

NaughtyBusterAndTheBumFactory · 24/11/2011 15:58

Satsumas taste the best. We used to call them all Satsumas when little as my mum, who is a geordie, did.

SeeLyon · 24/11/2011 15:59

tangerine in a Black country accent would be the worst

OP posts:
BrilliantDisguise · 24/11/2011 15:59

Surely small citrus fruits are kumquats?

notso · 24/11/2011 16:02

In M&S therefore must be true,
satsumas are easy to peel,
tangerines are sweetest and juicy,
clementines are vry sweet but only available for a short time.
(this is not word for word BTW)

I hate baggy satsumas.

TheCountessOlenska · 24/11/2011 16:03

My Granny always had Satsumas, therefore: posh!

notso · 24/11/2011 16:03

Also is it pronounced manda-rin or manda-reen?

Cybbo · 24/11/2011 16:05

notso- yes i agree a baggy satsuma is just not cricket

But I also hate a citrus fruit who's skin is WELDED on

SeeLyon · 24/11/2011 16:06

thereby ruining ones nails

OP posts:
Cybbo · 24/11/2011 16:06

Yes my fingers have the orange nicotine hue of a 60 a day smoker post peeling

I LOVE banana day

MackerelOfFact · 24/11/2011 16:08

I always had satsumas in my lunch box as a kid. Therefore not posh.

I always think clementine sounds the poshest. You could feasibly purchase clementine and elderflower presse, or duck in clementine sauce, or ginger, clementine and star anise handwash in Waitrose. Replace clementine with satsuma and it sounds a bit shit.
