To consider buying a bottle of Advocaat?

I have fond memories of having it as a teenager, as a snowball with a cherry.
I saw a bottle in the supermarket yesterday and am sorely tempted.
Am i going to be horribly disappointed ?

I am on my own with dd (15) this Christmas as dh and ds are off on holiday, so I will be having plenty of nice wine and bubbly as well.

Ooo, that's a nice idea. I shall do that tomorrow. Advocaat, lemonade, a dash of lime and a straw!

Mrsrobertduvall · 23/11/2011 17:44

What would I do with it if I don't like it though?

You will like it!

Winetimeisfinetime · 23/11/2011 17:46

I would say YANBU. We had some snowballs last Christmas and they were lovely and tasted just as good as I remembered from my youth - my dm and dsis ( who it has to be said are easily pleased ) were well impressed that we even had the cherries to go with.

MenopausalHaze · 23/11/2011 17:46

Oh do it - I did a couple of days ago and it's sitting on the Christmas Drink Shelf which nobody is allowed to approach before the 24th! I got mine at Lidl - it's not that radioactive yellow that you normally see!

laluna · 23/11/2011 17:49

Yanbu (yum licks lips)

marshkat · 23/11/2011 17:59

we have it in all year round! as it reminds us of Christmas yum yum!!!

suburbandream · 23/11/2011 18:02

oh yes, do it! And while you're at it, get some Babycham too - both of these always remind me of Xmas

Andrewofgg · 23/11/2011 18:05

Oh please, not Babycham, that's for clearing the grease out of your drains with.

MenopausalHaze · 23/11/2011 18:06

Andrewofgg's post!

PlumpDogPillionaire · 23/11/2011 18:07

Advocaat - deffo
Delicious, delicious, so wrong but sooooo delicious!
Thank you for reminding me!

Catsmamma · 23/11/2011 18:07

Enjoy it, what's not to like?? Drinkable custard! YUM!

Do buy some proper cocktail cherries though, it's not the same with glacé :D

PlumpDogPillionaire · 23/11/2011 18:08

And here's a Advocaat-y 'Mmmm' smile too, Smile

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 23/11/2011 18:12

Add extra brandy.
Pour over mince pies.
Or Xmas pud.
Stagger!

suburbandream · 23/11/2011 18:13

Sorry, I have to disagree Andrewofgg! I have fond memories of Babycham at Xmas in the 80s- does anyone remember this advert ?

DottyandSpottyWot · 23/11/2011 18:13

If you don't like it I'm sure your DD will! enjoy!

izzywhizzyspecanpie · 23/11/2011 19:12

Don't buy a bottle of Advocaat - you'll need at least 6 to get you through the festive season.

I can confirm (hic) that Lidl's brand is excellent quality and Lidl's lemonade is the ideal mixer.

Buy a jar of Maraschino cherries and a packet of cocktails sticks and relive your teenage memories - unlike some recollections from your earlier years, I'm sure you won't be disappointed.

izzywhizzyspecanpie · 23/11/2011 19:14

And don't forget the dash of lime juice which I always add to the glass after mixing or pouring the snowball.

Get0rf · 23/11/2011 19:15

Ooh yes I always get some for Christmas. DD had some last year, we got enjoyably merry on a mix of snowballs, amaretto and mulled wine.

Get0rf · 23/11/2011 19:16

Not all three drinks mixed together mind you.

upahill · 23/11/2011 19:20

So christmas drinking is all retro now!! Grin

Babysham
advoccat
and the most have ...bottles of cherry B

BadTasteFlump · 23/11/2011 19:24

Go for it - alcoholic custard, what's not to like?

GerardWay · 23/11/2011 19:25

Go for it. I bought some last year. My DH wasn't keen on the idea but he loved it and so many guests want a snowball even if it is only for old times sake. Oh, everyone else is right don't forget the cherries on a cocktail stick - it makes all the difference. Grin

LaurieFairyCake · 23/11/2011 19:26

Can someone please tell me what's in a snowball? I want one now.

Icelollycraving · 23/11/2011 19:28

Bought a bottle yesterday, marvellous! It's not Christmas until I've had my first snowball.
