Three AIBU threads gone poof in an hour.

OP posts:
SoonToBeMummyToAPrince · 21/11/2011 12:53

No, the troll wedding thread was a different one chipping. An absolutely appalling piece of work.

Get0rf · 21/11/2011 12:53

Nope - no warning. I think I have only had a couple of deletions in all my years on MN anyway, am not a naughty troublemaker honest

GetOrf - have MNHQ issued you with a warning for making personal attacks? Like they did with DBF?

Ffs

Is this a thread about a non-thread :)

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 21/11/2011 13:07

SoonToBe - Oh OK. Clearly I need coffee - it's all a bit much this morning!! Grin

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 21/11/2011 13:07

What about the thread about a wins with 5 own kids and 3 of her late sister's to take care if?I posted on it but it doesn't show in the threads 'Im on'. But I've just seen it 5 mins ago in the Active convos and now it's disappeared Confused.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 21/11/2011 13:08

Wins - woman

If - of

Peachy · 21/11/2011 13:09

Jessie DBF wasn;t the first for that warning: IIRC Glittery holds that honour, AKA 'tone of her posts'.

Getorf I missed the thread entirely but would have said that in a far stronger way. I bow to your reasonableness in that context.

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 13:11

I really dont get the deletion criteria on here.....maybe MNHQ could explain.

Trolling is allowed...or at least you are not allowed to delete due to trolling because it might be real. But Troll hunting isnt allowed. So any thread that is suspected of being troll led ends up getting deleted because enough people get personal and abusive.....

This is all very well but when you post something you feel deeply about, but some other segment of MN society disapproves of, then your thread gets deleted because other people apparently cant help but call you rude names....

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 13:14

so what I really want to know is do people like Getorf just find it incredibly difficult to type YABVU and leaving it at that or are they actively trying to get threads deleted?

Neuromantic · 21/11/2011 13:21

Chipping you are confusing a few not going to wedding threads, the religion one was different again.

Peachy · 21/11/2011 13:23

YABVU is pointless. It argues and challenges nothing. It conveys no depth of feeling. It is the same for 'IABU to fancy David Cameron' as for 'IABU to think all people called Doris eat babies'.

It also massively misses the point of debate- else very thread in AIBU would be nowt but a list of AIBU? YABU Yanbu

And as for thread edeletions- VERY rare: feeling deeply about something does not give someone catre blanche to post whatever they want. posts affect people: I still remember the first eugenicist I met on here for example advocating my children should be killed, the lady that wanted me and my boys (DH works so is exempt) to be placed in a workhouse. If someone posts something that advocates forced termination or penury then IMO that is beyond the bounds of human decency.

And trolls are often deleted. MNHQ can see far more about posters than we can and do check people are genuine / OK.

ViviPru · 21/11/2011 13:27

The babies on benefits was not deleted because of Get0rf's comment, it was because it had turned into a bunfight - not my words - that was the notification I got when I tried to post a reply to that thread as it was deleted.

So it seems that's the criteria. Is this a bunfight? Yes? Deleted.

Get0rf · 21/11/2011 13:31

Define what you mean by 'people like getorf' Hmm

I am not deliberately trying to get threads deleted. This place is very loosely moderated and generally you can say what you like. I reserve the right to call someone a div.

HTH

ViviPru · 21/11/2011 13:32

arf @ the thought of someone going around deliberately trying to get threads deleted. Just for shits n' giggles, like.

ChippingInNeedsSleep · 21/11/2011 13:32

Stands behind GetOrf.

Get0rf · 21/11/2011 13:33

BTW my comment was post no.2 on that thread.

i would say that the thread was deleted beause some people said that the OP was a previously deleted troll, and so under the troll hunting rules it was zapped.

Not because of 'people like me' saying piss off and div, which is bloody well mild for this place.

ShirleyKnot · 21/11/2011 13:35
Confused
entropygirl · 21/11/2011 13:36

Then maybe I need to know the definition of bun fight?

It seems to me that I have seen several threads in which the OP is responding calmly to vitriolic bile but the threads get deleted anyway. This doesnt seem right to me. I think in a bun fight BOTH sides need to have been unreasonable. It seems unfair to delete a thread because one faction cant keep the abuse out of it.

I didnt see the thread concerned just before it got canned and I didnt post to it, but the first 30 odd posts were all either:
against - calling the OP names
for - saying measured reasonable things like actually I agree that people could take more care over these decisions.

I dont see why the moderate people dont get to debate an interesting POV just because one bunch of people cant type 'YABU' without accidentally slipping in 'you are a fuckwit'.

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 13:38

People like GetOrf are people who respond to an AIBU reasonable with 'piss off', 'fuck off' etc. and also people who congratulate those who respond in this way.

I dont get why you cant just say YABU.

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 13:39

Okay so all I need to do to bury a thread I disagree with is to loudly proclaim that I have inside information that the poster is a troll!

Right

MincePieFlavouredVoidka · 21/11/2011 13:41

The OP of the benefits thread has posted on the SN board in a very different style - correct grammar and no text speak so its very strange.

OP posts:
JambalayaCodfishPie · 21/11/2011 13:41

The second bride thread, the OP actually admitted she was taking the piss out of the original - she thought it'd be funny and it just wasnt.

It was a namechanged regular that mis-judged the situation I think.

She posted that just before it got deleted, apologising too.

ShirleyKnot · 21/11/2011 13:41

Might be an idea if you haven't read the thread concerned then best not make a comment about it, surely?
