Three AIBU threads gone poof in an hour.

OP posts:
ViviPru · 21/11/2011 14:33

So you think she was hamming it up? (genuine question, no subtext there)

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:33

Entropygirl

Without wishing to speak for Peachy, which she certainly doesn't need, I would say that choosing not to embroil oneself in a bf/ff fight or a private school vs state school shit storm is completely different to ignoring a thread about whether or not people should regard it as fine to make jokes about disabled children or to use words like 'retard' with impunity

These issues affect the quality of our childrens lives. Not quite so easy to say 'aw I can't be arsed'

SinicalSal · 21/11/2011 14:34

ON THE aforementioned, bad typig bfing

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 14:35

I'm not going to pretend I know how painful that is. It is yet to happen to me so I can't know.

I just don't understand why you would needlessly subject yourself to that anguish and I also don't understand why you would think that it justifies personal attacks on people.

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:36

I hate professionally offended.

It is quite nice to note though that only the Colin Hunt types and Frankie Boyle fans are still using it

Peachy · 21/11/2011 14:36

Entropy

My boy ds3 can;t look after himself and I am sadly mortal

One day I will die and entrust him to the care of the world.

I can either fight prejudice wrapped up in AIBU on here and try ahrd as I can to change things for him or I can ignore threads and accept what lies ij store for him.

If someone is happy to post disablist shit about ds3 they either they are big enough to take it back in spades from his mother or they can fuck off.

I am his voice, I will not allow people to sell crap about him and others with his dx (which I am qualified in BTW) at risk of swearing in response.

Peachy · 21/11/2011 14:37

'which she certainly doesn't need'

Dunno what you eman

SinicalSal · 21/11/2011 14:37

because they attacked first entropy girl,
its still an attack if someone says ALL kids with SN, or whatever. I'd be enraged too and I wouldn't care for THEIR precious little feelings. tbh

cjbartlett · 21/11/2011 14:38
  1. the coil one
SinicalSal · 21/11/2011 14:38

what was the coil one?

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:39

Because the alternative is to let it stand and allow arse holes to think it is gin.
And as my child can't say 'that is not ok you stupid twat' then I will.

There is as much anguish to be had in knowing that some arse is posting stuff whilst no one calls them on it, as there is in actually calling them on it.

Are you really struggling to understand that?

And are you saying that my retort of 'oh fuck off you shit' is worse than 'what's wrong with retard or mong'

Because that is bewildering.

Peachy · 21/11/2011 14:40

And the training ahs come in handy too.

On teh new DSM criteria ds3 is a level 3 severe autism. LEA want to send him to comp with no support.

Eleven years of honed MN threads (and I am usually referred toa s reasonable so no berserker) helped me deal with that in a way that appears so far at least to have been Quite Efficient. And with teh quote from behavioural advisor to LEA about ASD being caused by attachment disorder with a 40 minute rant about the science behind autism: to MA level.

cjbartlett · 21/11/2011 14:40

actually I maybe wrong so I'll shush

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:41

It isn't gin. It is fine.

Although gin is a good idea

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 14:41

I am offended by disablist language whenever I come across it, but we were talking about people posting that babies should have been aborted? I just think that's a thread you can avoid rather than read and then be rude about.

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:43

But that is not your choice to make entropygirl.

Your position on this is coming very close to 'stop making a fuss'

SinicalSal · 21/11/2011 14:43

surely you cn see that would be a sensitive issue for some people also?

ShirleyKnot · 21/11/2011 14:44

Lots of arseholes think it's gin Paggy.

Well, it kicks both ways entropy - if you're offended by something said on a thread - just don't read it. Oh wait! It's too late isn't it? By the time you've read it! Complicated stuff this!

Peachy · 21/11/2011 14:45

So if someone is say 34 weks pregnant and just heard about a redundancy (them or their DP, given they will be on mat leave for at least a few weeks) and may be hormonal and even a veteran of many 'if you claim benefits you are stopping mea from eating I only earn 3 million a week wah' threads (and I do eman the extreme ones only: I completely get that salaries that look big can be easily absorbed by train fares / childcare etc)-

they should not react?

Really?

And the rest of us?

First they came for the Communists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews
And I did not speak out
Because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me
And there was no one left
To speak out for me

(Niemoller)

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 21/11/2011 14:45

But if everyone just avoids threads which are contentious, then this whole place would grind to a halt. Or be populated by fuckwits going 'Hur hur, yeah, it's all PC gawn mad, innit'. Challenging idiotic viewpoints makes change happen.

entropygirl · 21/11/2011 14:47

Okay I dont think you can have it both ways. There are things you feel need challenging, and you challenge them. I dont see that gives you the right to throw insults. Does 'fuck off you little shit' actually do anything to progress understanding?

And if you are looking to challenge misunderstanding then you are going to have to face some misunderstanding....it is unreasonable to look for people saying horrible things and then proclaim that they so painful to read you are justified in making personal attacks.

Peachy · 21/11/2011 14:48

And yes: it may make me a sanctimonious arse at times but I do post for ideological reasons, absolutely. I do not feel I cannot ask for protection and support for my boys and not give the same to other vulnerable groups.

More, I do not ignore bigotry, injustice or cruelty in whatever form I might find it.

Pagwatch · 21/11/2011 14:48

I am not really sure what threads people are referring to.

If someone posts ' I am pregnant and have found out this and think I will terminate' I would never in a million years post.
But if someone posts 'a test can now spot autism in utero and mothers should be encouraged to abort' I can post as I chose in response to that. Including finding someone to be an offensive arsehole and telling them so.

WorraLiberty · 21/11/2011 14:48

Oh look the OP of one of those threads was clearly a wind up merchant and she got called on it...big deal!

If you don't want to be called a semi literate div, then it's best not to start posting like one on one thread but not on another.
