My cooker oven exploded about 3 weeks ago.

and thanks to the great british system .......which everyone berates at times

(I have paid my taxes) but seriously £280 for a new cooker , the month before christmas , thank you

I would never have known this was possible unless a really clued up person advised me about it

MotherPanda · 19/11/2011 13:06

You've paid your taxes? So you're earning but get money for a cooker?
Point me in the right direction, only two rings work on mine Wink
Seriously, why? How?

MotherPanda · 19/11/2011 13:10

Community fund? Does that still exist - I am very envious. Nice to hear positive things about the government for a change!

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 13:11

being the type of person i am I will give them £280 back in February.

But I cant believe how lucky I am right now.. I will be able to cook christmas dinner

Oh I hate guessing thread like this. Can't you just say how you got it?

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 19/11/2011 13:13

Is there a reason you're not answering questions?

spugglers · 19/11/2011 13:13

Don't thank David Cameron. Its probably next on his list to cut.

crazynanna · 19/11/2011 13:13

A Community Care Grant. Make the most of them whilst available. According to reports, they will be under the Universal Credit system...in other words...due the chop.

MotherPanda · 19/11/2011 13:16

so theres the crisis loan, and budgeting loan that you have to give back - or the community care grant which is for keeps.

Unless the OP knows a very good secret.

lubeybooby · 19/11/2011 13:18

Huh?

Explain please OP, my head hurts today

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 13:18

it was a form ...it was about 48 pages long .

I think it might be community fund ? or social fund?

I got it from the jobcentre , i think that's the only place you can pick it up
you dont have to be unemployed or on benefits though
It was pink and grey

I'll answer any questions about it SuePurblybitbyElves , that's the reason I made the thread .........other people should know about this .

I didnt until a week ago

NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 13:19

Community Care Grant?
I got one when DD was tiny and will be applying for another when I move.

SuePurblybiltbyElves · 19/11/2011 13:23

Smile Good-oh.

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 13:23

NettoSuperstar I'd never heard of them , sorry if it's common knowledge on the forum?

Iwas just amazed they sent me £280 for a new cooker and thought I'd share it in case other people like me didnt know about it and were struggling too.

My apologies if this was something known to everyone apart me

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 19/11/2011 13:26

I'm pretty sure you can't just walk in and fill in a form and get a grant like you are making out OP. Glad you got it though as it sounds like you needed it :)

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 13:26

well reading valiums link they shouldn't have sent me any money .....I'm off to buy the cooker now before they can tell me they made a mistake

OP posts:
Rational · 19/11/2011 13:28

You'd me misguided in thanking the Tories for anything you get from the welfare system.

valiumredhead · 19/11/2011 13:29

What they give with one hand they will take back with the other!

CreamolaFoamless · 19/11/2011 13:31

i didnt walk in and just fill in form valium ...I actually wish I'd never bothered with this thread . I was only trying to pass on the advice I was given .

And yes, I did need it , my oven blew up and I couldnt afford to immediately replace it

OP posts:
valiumredhead · 19/11/2011 13:33

You said you don't need to be on benefits or unemployed _ I was merely stating that according to that link you do. I'm really glad you got it. enjoy your new oven :)

KathyImLost · 19/11/2011 13:33

What Rational said.

NettoSuperstar · 19/11/2011 13:35

Sorry, I didn't mean to sound rude.
I only know because I've had one and have been advised I'll be eligible for another when I move, actually I could have got one in the summer but I didn't really need anything then.
